Thanks for reporting this. Some strange things happened when I upgraded the server.

It is fixed now.

There should be NO difference at all between these pages when they are printed! To select two coulmn layout should actually not have any effect on what is printed, just on what is shown on the screen.

This might not make very much sense if you are not a web-developer. But if you experience that the page you are printing differs, please contact me(tell me what browser you are using). It is then a bug, and it will likely take me just a few seconds to fix it.

I understand what you mean. I can change that if a lot of people claim this is not logical.

The transpose-feature is independent of the editing function. You will edit the source, but the "-1 transpose" will always be there in the songbook. I could of course let you edit the transposed song, but then I would have to remove the setting that says this song is "-1 transpose" as well.

I am not sure what is best here.

Thanks. Now it should work.

Are you still having this problem?

I tried logging in, and repeating it, but did not get any error. Your problem is related to the apostroph in the songbook name, but I would like to fix this on my side as well.

However I am unable to reproduce.

I need both you and your wife's email and username to fix this. Please send them to: <a href="mailto:admin&#64;chordie.com" target="_blank">admin&#64;chordie.com</a>

I am having some problems with aol that have blocked my mails, so this might be the reason for you not getting confirmation.

Actually, it will work if you just print from the original page as well. I am using a css-stylesheet that hides things like menues etc... You will not be writing what you see on the screen.

Unfortunately, you will not notice this "feature" until you press "print". I guess I should find a way to label it...

I am planning a new website, and you are the first to know.

Basically, it will let you publish your songs on the Internet in mp3-format, make your own homepage and typeset your lyrics/chords in "chordie-style". In addition it has several other cool features, that I will reveal later.

Now I need some beta testers. To be a beta-tester you need a demo/song that you have full ownership of, and that you are willing to publish on the Internet.

If you want to be in this from the beginning, please send a mail to <a href="mailto:admin&#64;chordie.com" target="_blank">admin&#64;chordie.com</a>. Use the title "beta test".

It is great (but not required) if you attach one of your songs.

Any comments about such a service?

To take away MPA's last argument, I have added non-profit links to all artists songs. This should more than compensate for what the artists are loosing for lost sales of tablature books.

Links should start to appear on all songs.

The reason for doing this is posted here:

You are right in assuming there is some hidden magic behind that list. It is not 100 percent accurate.

Here is how it works:

* The most popular list is based on what people are adding to their songbooks.

* All songs that I suspect does not format perfectly is deleted. This is done by an algorithm. This might kill a lot of "big hits".

* I do a little trick to rotate the songs on the front page, even if the actual order of the list is not changed ever day (...sorry...)

I should probably find a better way of generating that list. The problem is that most "correct" methods would require a lot of resources from my server. The server is on a very high load at the moment, so this is not a top priority.

Very few guitar sites (if any) are built like Chordie. Chordie is basically built like Google, the songs are hosted somewhere else, and when you click on it, it is downloaded from the remote site and formatted.

There are some caching involved, and if two users clicks the same song, it will not be downloaded twice. The reason for this is not to create too much load on the hosting site. BUT...the songs from guitartabs will disappear from chordie very soon.

Technically it would be much easier to host songs locally, but that would also make it a lot more vulnerable to legal actions like the one that guitartabs are facing now.

I agree that ideally all songs should state as much info as possible. Including who wrote the text and who composed the music. I have added an comment to this song, telling that it was written by Jack Bruce.

To categorize songs primarily by the artist name is not uncommon. If you go to a record shop, and look for the single "We're going wrong", you will most likely find it under "C" for "Clapton".

About half the songs are under the name of a band. These would be very hard to find if they were listed by the author.

Anyway, Chordie is a search engine and a hobby project of mine. It would not be practically possible to recategorize nearly one million songs.

It is possible. Just have to find an easy way of doing this, without annoying people that get their books "unpublished".

Cleaning up once in a while is easier than letting them live for 30 days. But both things are definately possible.

pere/admin

OK. Maybe it is too early. I will give the new rating system some time. At least I will not delete non-rated books.

I might do things like "deleting books with at least two scores below average, and nothing above". "Deleting" the book would not really be deleting it, it is just marking it as "unpublished" in the users songbook-list.

I could also notify the owner of the book that his/her book is no longer online, and ask them to go online if they do not like this. I will have to think about this some more.

Anyway: All ideas that would make the songbook-section easier to navigate would be great.

Here are some ideas I have been thinking about. Please give feedback:

* Adding "genres" like "country","rock","campfire","love songs" etc But havent found a good system for this. What genres to use? Can a song be multiple genres? What about those that just says the book is "all" genres?

* Adding a "search-filter"-function. Like entering "Dylan" and get just the books that contains this word (incl abstract, artists, titles).

* Marking the songbooks where at least one of the songs have been edited. These tend to have higher quality. Do anyone have an idea about how they could be marked?

Good points. There are too many low quality songbooks today, and the brilliant ones are "drowning".

I did introduce star-rating to the songbooks a while ago. I might use the result of these ratings to remove songs.

For instance I could unpublish/delete all books that had a rating of less than three.

Is this too drastic?

There are some words about this in <a href="http&#58;&#47;&#47;www.chordie.com/faq.php" target="_blank">http://www.chordie.com/faq.php</a>.

Basically: All songs are attributed to "the artist", not "the writer". The main reason for this is that tablature is a description of how to play a song like a specific artist is playing it. It is not a reproduction of an authors work.

Ideally it whould be noted in the song who wrote it. Please add this as a comment to the song.

Could you give me one song where you clearly see this happening. Also indicate where you want the space to be.

Sorry about that. I made a change last night that seems to have caused major problems.

Could you all check if everything is OK now?

Hi,

Just added a feature that let you rate songs and songbooks.

Any feedback about the user interface? Do you want to see more info, like number of raters etc?

I have just tested with Firefox and IE. Do it work for other browsers?

There are a lot of tabs, but as good as none for ukulele.

For lyrics/chords pages you can change the instrument to ukulele. This is technically impossible to do for gutiar tabs.
