I have been away for a week and came back expecting to se loads of new topics. Not A one that I can see !
I hope it doesn't have anything to do with the Ukraine situation.
Hope you all are well

oooops
Sorry guys.
anyways, I have always liked Procul Harum songs
Where does the name of the group originate and what does it mean ?
always sad news to hear.
I don't think Brooker was the original drummer with the band, but the one that lasted the longest and became famous.
Ok
so here is what I thought of when I just read that verse - I immediately thought of slavery in U.S. Slaves that ran away using underground railroad. Jumping the broomstick was how slaves on plantations got married (with owners permission or insistence in some cases - basically breeding ) of course. It's funny how a person can look at lyrics and see something completely different that the author's intent. That's the beauty of poetry.
Some live in the moonlight.
I live in the sun.
my folks jumped the broomstick.
at the end of a gun.
They tied the knot.
and then he ran.
Nice work fellas.
Song sounds great, nice story line, video was very cool as well.
Congrats on the collaboration!
Jeff
That is very, very good ! Love it !
Put some music to it !
Jim
Well , after 45 years of teaching and coaching, I retired today !
More time on chordie I guess
Jim
ZURF
Still is cooler than the other side of a pillow and I'd go fishing anyways !!
Jim
Mojo
you are correct !
Zurf - I am a huge Townes Van Zandt fan ! He was right there with Dylan
as a songwriter.
You did a fabulous cover of this.
OMG you fish with Wrecks !! How fortunate are you.
I wrote a song about 7 years ago as a tribute to Townes after listening to an interview with him and Guy Clark. I will email it to you separate. I'd love it if you would share it with Wrecks. If you were real motivated and had absolutely nothing to do someday, maybe you could give it a go.
For everyone else - Rex Bell, sometimes spelled "Wrecks" as a homophone for Rex, was a friend to Townes and an original partner of the Old Quarter. https://wrecksbell.com/bio
I sure love to fish you boys someday and chew the fat!
also, Steve Earle (who named his son after Townes) also did a great cover of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FhjevjNLRQ he talks about Townes before he sings - it's awesome !
Thanks for sharing Zurf
Jim
Paul McCartney or John Entwistle, of course.
Very well done !
reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughn
Don't get too excited - it's just me singing my song.
I tried to do it by memory - there are some screw ups
I am not a musician so keep that in mind - just thought I'd give you an idea of what
the melody (if you can call it that when I sing ) goes.
Thanks for listening

Jeff Picking up the guitar is always stress relieving for me - even if I m not very good at it. It's like your lyric says - it often takes yourself somewhere. Thanks for sharing ! Nice work . Jim
Great point Riverdales - that always amazes me when I go to live venues - my comment to my wife is usually " How heck can they remember all those songs.? " I mean often people are requesting from the crowd and these people just go - ok I'll play it ! I have trouble remembering the lines from my own songs !
Jeff,
I am assuming this is about your special person. A fine illumination of how you see them in your life. It flows nicely.
Might be a tad long, but if you're talking about the love of your life - it's worth every word!!
Nice work
Jim
me with Buddy Holly Guitar in Clovis recording studio
cool Scott - Can't wait to hear it !
I got the impression that the boy/girl were getting back together? Even with break up songs I like a happy ending!
Phill
I think this is a case of inadvertent or unintentional influence !
When you asked that it had never occurred to me that it could end up with them getting back together.
I love it ! I changed the very end of it just to enhance it that way.
It certainly leaves the listener with the ability to think of their own interpretation as to what happens .
Thanks for the guidance !
Jim
Nice pic Graham !!
Phill
I liked your recording a lot!!!! It might be a little to happy ( I don't know if that's the right word to describe it) for me, but holy cow can you ever sing and play !!
If I could play like that and sing like that I would be ecstatic!!
Thanks so much ! You should put it out there for the rest of chordie to hear. ( Or I can do it for you !)
When I send it to my friends I will send your version along with my version (which is pretty bad).
At least they have the country style female voice (and she is good)
Hope it comes out good either way they do it.
Jim
Phill Thank you so much for taking your time to do this.
I really appreciate it. It makes me feel special to know you took time away from being with Anne and your family to do this kind act for me. Thanks again !
Jim
