I don't think Brooker was the original drummer with the band, but the one that lasted the longest and became famous.

so here is what I thought of when I just read that verse - I immediately thought of slavery in U.S. Slaves that ran away using underground railroad. Jumping the broomstick was how slaves on plantations got married (with owners permission or insistence in some cases - basically breeding ) of course. It's funny how a person can look at lyrics and see something completely different that the author's intent. That's the beauty of poetry.
Some live in the moonlight.
I live in the sun.
my folks jumped the broomstick.
at the end of a gun.
They tied the knot.
and then he ran.

Zurf - I am a huge Townes Van Zandt fan ! He was right there with Dylan
as a songwriter.
You did a fabulous cover of this.

I wrote a song about 7 years ago as a tribute to Townes after listening to an interview with him and Guy Clark. I will email it to you separate. I'd love it if you would share it with Wrecks. If you were real motivated and had absolutely nothing to do someday, maybe you could give it a go.

I tried to do it by memory - there are some screw ups

Great point Riverdales - that always amazes me when I go to live venues - my comment to my wife is usually " How heck can they remember all those songs.? " I mean often people are requesting from the crowd and these people just go - ok I'll play it ! I have trouble remembering the lines from my own songs !

I think this is a case of inadvertent or unintentional influence !
When you asked that it had never occurred to me that it could end up with them getting back together.
I love it ! I changed the very end of it just to enhance it that way.
It certainly leaves the listener with the ability to think of their own interpretation as to what happens .

I liked your recording a lot!!!! It might be a little to happy ( I don't know if that's the right word to describe it) for me, but holy cow can you ever sing and play !!
