Just a shout-out for a good customer service experience with St. Louis Music Company a.k.a. Alvarez Guitars. I called their customer service/parts line and ordered a new 6-piece saddle for my recently acquired Alvarez Guitar. Not only did they have the part, it was priced reasonably, and they took my order quickly. The rep, Tom, was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was easy to contact and he returned my calls promptly.

So whatever the name or the challenges this company may be facing their customer service gets a gold star from me.

No to find a luthier to set-up this saddle. Each string has its own tiny saddle. I'm comfortable doing it myself with the one-piece variant but not this.

I attempt the guitar but many have said they like my writing. I love to write and am always spinning some anecdote for the fun of it.
Two weeks ago I wrote part of the eulogy for my mother's funeral. When the Pastor used my words I cried. No one has ever quoted me to me before and my words were quite touching, for me anyway.

By the way I have a degree in Electrical Engineering and practiced for several years. Now I talk and write for living.

I've broken one and I think it was a new one at that.

I have heard one story about a 12-string neck coming apart while being played and the ensuing Gordian Knot of strings!

Note: I am NOT considering one of these. (Don't think I could.) But a lot of people rave about them and I was just curious and trying to get some seasoned, objective opinions to make sure I wash't the only one doubting the need for this complexity. I would rather tote my Little Martin or just bring a full-size along. Like many of you have said, I don't get it either.

I read several other guitar forums and these things are all the rage over a the Acoustic Guitar forum. I don't understand it.

Here's the link to their website: http://www.voyageairguitar.com/site/

pakace,
Are you in the U.S.? If so, your choices are many. What is a "midprice" price for you? (For me this means $500-1000.)

For now, my first suggestion is to get a solid top guitar. I believe the Yamaha you have is all laminate construction. There is nothing wrong with this but a solid top might yield the sound you are looking for. And, on the used market, these can be purchased for around $150, sometime even lower.

Do you want/need electronics, i.e. do you expect to plug into an amp, etc?

I've gotta ask this. There are numerous praises and accolades for the Voyage Air Guitars. These are the ones that fold in half at the 14th fret. I've never played one or even seen one but the idea that you can break fold it in half is something I cannot warm to. Maybe I am a structural purist...whatever that is?

Of course this purist accepts multi-piece necks and laminate construction.

a guitar for AROUND THE CAMPFIRE not FOR the campfire! Zurf, I'll find one yet.

Yes, I'm aware of Bob. I might just place an order with him. I've heard nothing but good things and I believe he and I are in the same State: Georgia.

Someday I'd like to get my hands on a Yairi "FY" guitar - the folk aka 000 size body but they look pricey even used...if you can find one.

Can you point to the secret decoder wheel for all their models? I'd like to get smarter on their product line.

I purchased a rosewood b/s guitar last week. I love it but don't see it displacing my mahogany guitar(s). There's room for both and, as they say, everyone got something to offer!

Guitarpix,
You seem to have a wealth of knowledge regarding the Yairi/Alvarez? Any idea where I can get a replacement saddle for this axe? It's got a six-piece saddle, that is one tiny saddle for each string. They are all mounted in what appears to be a base which fits into a slot in the bridge. The guitar is fine the way it is but I may want to replace the saddle at some point. I've seen pictures of this model with a traditional one-piece saddle so I suppose I could convert it if need be.

3+ hours of playing last night. My fingers are sore but that won't stop me from playing today. What else are you supposed to do on a weekend? Yardwork?!

Thanks Guiarpix for describing the relationship. I thought they were "closer" than that.

Steelstrings,
For a really nice Takamine take a look at their "F" series. They are no longer produced and are the infamous "Martin Lawsuit" guitars but very nice.

Zurf,
Yes this one sounds nice. I looked at an MD90 which is the same guitar without the fingerboard inlay, and really more my style. But this one was in much better condition and almost $100 less! I've since done some research and I now think I got a better deal than I originally thought.

I don't see much difference between this guitar and a Yairi. In fact many Yairi's have laminate back and sides, not that there's anything wrong with that.

p.s. I played for about 3 hours last night. My fingers hurt. Such sweet pain.

Pete, you are too kind.

Dino48, I'm holding at five - my theoretical maximum. But I do not have much money invested. In fact, if I sold them all I might be able to purchase a new 15 series Martin. Sometimes I consider being a one-guitar guy but I can never seem to decide on the one guitar. So I have a variety of shapes, sizes, tone woods, and finishes. This way none of them get worn out:)

This is my habit, good or bad, there are worse ones.

I acquired an Alvarez Masterworks MD95 last week. I didn't want glossy. I didn't want electronics. I didn't want fancy inlays. But, this thing sounds great.
I realize when it comes to guitars I tend to be fickle but just maybe...

Zurf,
I'll keep my eyes open for you. Wait a minute, a D or X, 00 size? I think a D is always a dreadnought. The X is the solid top, laminated b/s with a Stratobond neck. I've never seen an 00 size X. There is an 000 size though. I could be wrong, it has happened once before:)

Guitar only, no singing...yet

Bad Moon Risin' - CCR (still)
Lucky Man - ELP
Someone Like You - Adele
Your Decision - Alice in Chains
I'm Your Captain (Getting Closer) - Grand Funk Railroad
What I Got - Sublime
Hey Hey What Can I Do - Led Zeppelin
Bring it on Home to Me - Sam Cooke
Hey Joe - Jimmy Hendrix

and there are probably others.

I am (sort of) working on writing a song - slow process for me

Abalone rosette/headstock logo and “tree of life"  fingerboard inlay

And a VERY good price!

I am so enamored with my Silver Creek guitar I thought I'd share this: Musician's Friend's Stupid Deal of the Day.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ … 6000010000

A Silver Creek ALL-SOLID Spruce/Rosewood guitar for $219.99. Hard to beat.

Anyone looking for an affordable but nice guitar should take a look. I suppose, at this price, it could be a beater or campfire guitar. I know I love my T-160 (000-body) variant.

It's been a while since I chimed in. I've got some personal things I'm dealing with in life right now but I do find a minute or two to play every now and again. I brought the Silver Creek home (from my office) and I must say it is impressive. I still can't believe the deal I got on this. Despite its shiny appearance it sounds great and is very responsive.

I've had an account for about 3 years. No issues. Having an account allows you to save favorites, build playlists, etc which is handy. Search "naolslager" and you can find my channel. Not much there posted by me though. Good luck.
