Been on this one too, Cam!

The link you sent doesn't show anything about Goose Creek or Goose Creek Orchestra. I'm not signed up with Facebook, MySpace et al, perhaps that's why?

Have found the band (I think) but it appeared to be an audience recording. I got the D start, but.......

I'm sure wlbaye will help you, if not, post a link.

Cheers guys,

A clout is a small little critter...... Any target than a arrow drops down onto is a clout, a flag, a hoop, an actual boss at a very shallow angle. Today it was a standard (small) bale of straw.

Each end (in this context) refers to each quiverful of arrows (14 at the moment) a tonne is where metric and imperial (2000lbs/1000Kg) almost coincide.

Thanks again!

Gosh darn it yeah Micky (is "Hell" swearing here???),

It depends what instrumentation you've got and whether you can get that to a broadcastable medium i.e. Stereo CD.

If you own one of these "workstation" keyboards that can make all sorts of different sounds - piano, organ, bass, horns, woodwind, percussion (including drumkits) and make all of these types of sound including noodles, thwacks and tweets simultaneously AND record MIDI sequences then you can record the output of this keyboard onto a stereo medium (CD or similar). Some of these workstations now have audio recording and these and some of the MIDI only ones have a built in CD burner.

MIDI sequences are the recording of note information to tell a MIDI equipped instrument/noise maker what noise to make at what pitch for how long all within a time frame as if you were recording sound. Computer software like Logic, Pro-Tools, Cubase, Sonar, etc allow you to record MIDI and Audio together so your computer will record the notes to tell the keyboard/sound source what to play which can in turn be recorded onto the computer for burning as an audio CD

If you have a recording device and instruments you only need 2 inputs but you may need more tracks to which you can record; more inputs = more instruments all playing at the same time - so you would need a mixer with a band to play all the parts together if you were only recording to stereo.

Workstation Keyboards go up from about £350, upwards of £500 is getting serious.

If this is for practice go for it. If this is for making money go for it but pay your dues. MU membership costs £125 (you get insurance thrown in too!)

Fellow Chordians,

I just wanted to post a thread for those whove done an accomplishment of note and have no-one to hear a positive response from, for something that deserves it - big or small.

Everyone wants to hear a "WELL DONE!" or "CLASS WORK!" or "COOL AS MUSTARD!"

Mine was today shooting clout.

I'd had lots to do with horses and had to start that late for people riding and combining feeds (can't be fed too soon before riding). The time I would've gone shooting (in bright sunshine) was taken up preparing feeds then dishing out. So when I'd finished and was heading back to get bow and arrows a low cloud was blowing in from the English Channel restricting range of view; about 18:20 hrs GMT, clarity 40 - 80 metres and worsening.

I got to the clout field and set one up (a roving clout so I didn't know the range) and prepared my Longbow and arrows. I shot four ends (each end 14 arrows) so I pulled over my tonne and was getting the larger proportion within scoring distance of the clout some very close, even a few reds here and there, but the last end I heard a sound that wasn't like an arrow hitting earth.

When I went to collect the arrows there was one slap bang in the head of the clout (Gold) and at least 3 in the ground beside (Reds). When I paced it back, I'd been shooting at 120 metres!!!

British Longbow/Warbow Clout Shooting - nothing like it, easy to do bad!!!

Your French is excellent.

Where I have an excellent vocab of nouns, my conjunctions sont tres merd; I still can't make past and future tense easily but I can make myself understood and can communicate about a lot of subjects (primarily to (rather than from) the French teachers that stay here).

Yours I understood everything you said perfectly - better than my ability.

So let's hear more about those French songs that became hits in the English language that Bowie/Brel link was cool as mustard!!! :-)

Les Rouges et Les Ors, KajiMa.

No Worries Micky!

I tried doing it just now at about 48 BPM (slow performance speed) and the changes are quick.

If you need any help (cheats on how to get from 1 chord to n'other 'n' next quickly) let me know. I'm going to do this one Monday night, need to practise mesel'.

Reds and Golds, JJ

Salud StranSongs (Chasons Etranger?),

I needed help with "I have but one," "most" and "live music," all other mistakes entirely my own.

A bien tot!

And the edit was for a spelling msiatke.

Je t'aime (moi no plus) by Serge Gainsbourgh? You must remember that. Mary Whitehouse musta been spittin 'cos she couldn't ban the musical version of "that scene" from When Harry Met Sally!

"Ca Plain Pour Moi" which was in French tho' Plastic Bertrand was Belgique.

These 2 were in French but most people who have heard of My Way and Beyond the Sea don't know where they started and (until Alan Sheeran) I only knew 2.

Do you know the French have laws that protect French performers being outsold by foreign imports? Good thing for French musos but bad if trying to break France - you did see that bit about me doing Longbow/Warbow??? LOL

Hey Micky,

I know this song and can help (it's going round my head as I write). Oh ma' lads......

I don't know the legalities of posting traditional (non copyrightable) lyrics, so just E-mail 'em to me and I'll get back with something that (hopefully) makes sense.

Why- aye, man!

Hey Doug,

Thanks for responding. Yeah, absolutely threads in Chordie.

Lean and mean good.

If people know what they want to achieve but are unsure what to plug into their AWE  64 or unsure about whether they need external preamps to use with their MOTU Traveller; what kind of mic for what situation; does a piece of kit exist that will do both this and this.

As far as software goes I'm spoilt - Logic Plat was my start and I know next to nothing about using others, but discussing what plugs into what, even in a virtual (non software specific) environment is also my bag.

Just trying to either be guided to suchlike discussions or invite threads on these and related subjects. Have already found a few and am jumping in!

Thanks again for the heads up!

Sorry Alvee,

I Uggard Bup.

I was trying to look clever and swing to a prog one of my discoveries was in; he's been in loads and loads of stuff, but checking his biog for this it was only a 1 or 2 episode part and it was made a lot more of when it was impending - must be a good agent.

Hey Alan, nice call on both Brel and Bowie. I'd never heard either track, they both have merits but I think I prefer Brel.

Cool as mustard :-)

Thanks!

Mackie HR 824s are flat (within 1.5dB) from all the way up at 22.5KHz way down to 39Hz - thats flatter than the Netherlands, East Anglia and the salt flats of the US combined!!!

Anyway, in the mix, 60Hz is Kick energy, Bass Guitar energy is higher. If you're being recorded, the engineer/prod might have put a (not too) low cut filter on the Mic/Preamp/DI/etc. Don't forget your £15/$30 computer speakers which have probably dropped off 3, 5 even 10 dB by 100Hz will still let you hear the lower bass and the even lower kick.

DON'T MONITOR TOO LOUD - This will irrepairably damage your hearing; same with being both sides of the stage and Discos. It breaks down to whether you want to do what it takes to make you sound brilliant or get someone in (at some point) to make you sound brilliant for you.

Take care of your hearing!

As long as you have two (or more) seperate inputs to your recording device you can record vox and box together.

It can be good as some performers sing and the chords follow.

You always get the chance to go back and "double track" both vox and box seperately if you have a device or software that supports more than stereo/dual track/channel recording.

It breaks down to: - seperate Space you're recording in (and what you can do about it) then input preamps (or not) then routing/distribution possibilities (input/outut configuration/s) (or not) Recorder Inputs/

Wotcha got???

Like to hear, like to help!!!

Here goes Chordians,

Any threads on the above with bias on Signal Aquisition, Processing/Broadcasting/Recording in existance?

Your superior Forum knowledge will point me right and quick!

Hey Crowellb,

I can relate to that "Same concept as gardening...we just use a bigger hoe!" LOL

Not as big here but going up and down with a chain harrow towed by a crusty old tractor is rather Zen, problems disappear as you try and hold the line and not be distracted by the wildlife or the beauty of the countryside.

Can't grow much tho' 'cept brambles, hawthorns and grass. No, not that kind but for hay and haylage.

Altho' we're in the heart of the Westcountry (a quarter of a mile or less and you can look down on Glastonbury Tor) we're a thousand feet up and our growing season starts a month after places less than 3 miles away and finishes a month earlier, so by the time you've started to get things going they are harvesting, then ours die from cold.

We do get wonderful mushrooms in September/October.... and of all varieties... so people tell me!

One I play is Charles Trenet's "La Mer" which was rewritten and became a big hit for Ritchie Valens as "Somewhere Beyond the Sea." I still prefer the cool-as-mustard jazz feel of the original.

Check out what Claude Francois did for Frank Sinatra, Elvis and even Sid Vicious with "Comme D'Habitude" here:

There must be more, but I don't know 'em.
