We found a Santa Claus who can sing and is really funny to go with us.
I don't know who has more fun, us or the old folks and kids.
Tooter I think your grandson sings with you and I seem to remember his name was Casey. Am i correct?
I have one named Casey (11) and he will go with me when school is out. He is excited. Have a great time and keep it up. They love it! Al

Kills 2 birds...you get to occupy your time doing something you love and helping others out at the same time. Really good stuff. Praying for the other gigs for ya!!!!
Thank you.
I Finally made a commitment to use what little talent I have a little more. (I'm nearly 68).Since I only work a couple of hours in the morning and a couple in the evening I decided to contact a few of the nursing homes within a 30 mile radius of me and volunteer to pick and sing once a month at each. I had 4 in mind and have contacted 2 and was well received by both.
I did my first hour at one 17 miles to the east of me today.Wow! The fastest hour I've seen in a while. I don't know who enjoyed it more, me or them. I will be there the 2nd Tuesday of the month and another on the 3rd Wednesday and hopefully I'll get dates at the other two to give me a date once a week at one or the other from 10:00-11:00am. I notice in June the 2nd Tuesday and the third Wednesday are back to back.By then I should really be comfortable and it should be no problem.
I've done nursing home services before but just a couple of songs during Sunday services. This is my first time on my own for an hour.
This way I will do mostly Gospel songs but am not limited to them only.
Keep me in your prayers if you are so minded. AL
There are just soooooooooo many!

That is a line in Alan Jackson-Summertime blues. Was it a cover?
Yes. It was a hit way before anyone ever heard of Alan Jackson.
Another one of my favorites comes from JerryLee Lewis.
She didn't mean to be unkind, Why She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye!
Not really a joke but maybe put a smile on a face or two.

Those little surprises you find while searching through new public song books.
Someone posts a new songbook and I get all excited imagining a list of new songs to try. Then I find that most of them have been posted a hundred times before.(Nothing wrong with that) But then there it is. A song I had completely forgotten about even though I liked it very much at one time. And to find that it is not hard to play and sing just puts a cherry on top of the whipped cream.
Such was the case with MR. Cash singing Delia. Enjoy!

Quote>If you you were just wanting to know where in the fret box to put the capo, most people suggest putting it as close to the fret wire as possible but trial and error will be your friend on this. I have big fingers so I have to move it back a little so my finger will fit.
Thats what I do. My fingers are not that big but I just need all the room I can get.I don't read music so deciding just what fret to use is an experiment to get in my voice range.
BTW I never have to re tune after placing the capo.
I have my songs listed in seperate folders (GOSPEL,Country, R&R) on my computer and also on a removable Flash drive. I take the flash drive and a lap top with me when we go camping and a guitar. Can be jammin in a jiffy and the wind doesn't blow the music away.
I am learning a little each day. Having a blast.
I find it fun to choose a song and lay down a track on the Audacity program with my guitar and then play along with it on the Mandolin. No fancy picking here yet but having fun. AL
Bushy, Has the Mandolin gotten there yet? and how is it going? AL
Has anyone counted the fingers on these men? I think they have more than I do.
Maybe this will get you started. Check out Marty Shwartz open D tuning. http://video.search.yahoo.com/search/vi … amp;fr=sfp
Went to sleep on the sofa about 9;30 and woke up 15 minutes into a New Year.
Wished the wife a Happy New Year and we retired for the night. Not real exciting stuff but thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
Stringed instruments would become Strung instruments.
What a wonderful story.
I wish I could of wound up with my Mothers guitar but after 2 step mother's I don't know what happened to it. The family pictures didn't survive the first let alone the second.Oh well! That's how it goes! First your money then your clothes.
On edit, The pick guard is different but adds a certain personality to the guitar. Perhaps when you string it the strings will take away the appearance of a massive piece by splitting it in half.
Thanks, and Happy New Year and I hope all had as Merry a Christmas as we did.Nice gifts but time with family priceless.
May 2011 be one of the best years ever for Chordie family members. AL
Welcome to you and any others I have missed. Chordie seems to be on the grow and I think that is great!
I think I finally found my niche in life. My wife asked me what I was going to do today and I said Nothing. She said that I did that yesterday. I told her I didn't get finished.
You sound like my kind of folks. But then I like most folks. Welcome.
Welcome neighbor! I am from Louisiana about 9 miles below the line.
