You can tune all strings down 1/2 step and play all those tuned down songs.  Then place a capo on the 1st fret and this will put you back to open E and you can just continue to play while the capo serves as the nut.

Hey, Pix. Is that the guitar with the rubber strings?

Haven't tried that one but did read some good comments about it in the Acoustic Guitar magazine.

Lost of misplaced my guitar. Need help locating. It's a Blueridge BR70 which is a copy of a Martin D-41 but $3,500.00 cheaper. Lost somewhere in the Plain Dealing, La. area. Will negotate a small reward for it's quick return. No questions asked.

Christmas is a time to be with family and friends to share these special times. If you can't be there in person then be there in spirit. Here's wishing all my chordie family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Welcome, Texan, If you have House of the Risin' Sun down pat then you got a 2 for 1. Try playin' Amazing Grace to the same tune. Now learn to play Tulsa Time by Don Williams - then just change keys and play the same melody to Achy Breaky Heart.

There are more songs than can be counted that has the exact melody,  chord changes  and tempo that can be adapted to other songs with only a key change.

Have this problem all the time. My cure is to pause everything and let it download - then I can watch everything with any interuptions.

Three very old ladies were sitting on a park bench when a flasher ran up to the youngest one and whipped open his rain coat. This old lady hollered " Oh, My God" and immediately had a stroke.

The flasher then jumped over in front of the next oldest lady and whips his rain coat open. This old lady hollered "Good Heavens" and immediately had a stroke.

The flasher then jumped over in front of the oldest old lady and whips open his rain coat. This old lady hollered "OH CRAP!!!". She was just too old and frail to reach out that far.

bswers, I feel you pain and understand how you want to get back into playing. I have suffered 4 surgeries on my hands (2 on each) due to trigger finger and will probaly have to suffer another on on my right hand in the near future. My right hand just will not function in a manner that will allow mw to fingerpick, so that's out for me. With my left hand I have no problems forming chords - can even make the E and A shape barr chords reasonably well but the  C, D and G shapes I cannot do. With my hand conditions and my age I don't know if I could ever learn to play left handed. From your posts, I see that's what you want to do and I hope you well. But I do want to relate another option to you. I know a guy who plays with this feller who lost a couple of fingers on his fretting hand. So the story goes he tried going lefty but gave up after a short time. What he did do was learn to play a steel guitar and a dobro. From what I was told this was very easy for him to pick up and he is A Very GOOD player, now.  Just a thought for another option to get you back into the music world. Best of luck.

You cannot say "*%($" or "$#&+" or "%)1!$**4$" AND NEVER SAY "<=#%$**@^$%"

I guess I missed your prior post, Butch. Sure hope everything goes well and you get over this very quickly. I am assuming this is your chording hand and not your picking / struming hand. If this is correct, rather that going over to the lefty side why not try slide guitar. You could go for a good steel guitar or a dobro and just keep on going. Regardless, we are all pulling for you.

Nela

I guess I must'a missed something - what happened bswyers? Sorry to hear that you may be down to only 1 index finger as that finger (one each hand) is so important and brave. Hope everything goes wellwith the surgury and the following rehab. Keep us informed.

Well, ole Deadstring' got him a good thing going with the singing & playing. Thru some folks he has met, here and yonder while playing in Blanchard, Gilliam and Benton, La. he has started a "once a month" -STRUMMING AND HUMMING" - group. Had some real good singers and players that kept the songs and friendship going all night long. Not to take anything away from the other players and singers but there was one lady playing a 12 string that could really belt out a song and another lady playing a "Hammered Dulicimer that was plumb outstanding. Looking forward to getting back to Plain Dealing, La. and doing this again. Now gotta get ready for the weekly jammin' in Blanchard. Ya'll Come.

This set up Deadstring has put together is basically thru other groups he has gotten to know just by going to where they are playing, listening and meeting folks, there. As you meet these folks and get to talking to them one of the 1st things you will be asked is "DO YOU PLAY". That's how you get to join in. I am able to play music with 2 or 3 groups in the Monroe / West Monroe, La area and now, thru DS and meeting the folks, here, I have other groups that I can play with. ANYONE, who is looking for someone to play music with can find folks such as these to play and sing with can find where these places are if they spend the time to look for them. JUST REMEMBER - these are groups that have been playing for years. Don't show up nthe 1st couple of nights with guitar in hand and expect to play. Just listen, get to know the people by complimenting them on their playing / singing. YOU WILL be asked "DO YOU PLAY" that's how you get invited to join in. Anyway - there are places out there where you can play and sing if you will put forth the effort to find them.

Well, due to the tremendious heat and lack of rain we have been thru here in the South it does not look good for Louisiana's famous Mile-a-More birds. With all the drought conditions we've been thru, lately, sighting are extremely rare and no-one that I've talked to have heard them calling at sunrise or sunset. With the fall of the year coming, along with cooler temps it should not be long until we should be seeing the massave fights heading south for the winter. I'm afraid this heat and lack of rain wasn't good for the population of Louisiana's rare Mile-a-More's. Ya'll keep a eye out, here in the south, and it you see one, let me know.

Look at who play's Takamine guitars - Garth Brooks, The Eagles and Dennis Sims just to name a few. Regardless of the brand you can always get a good one or a bad one. Even a cheap campfire beater can sound great in the hands of a good picker.

Buzz - to do an acoustic guitar justice you need a acoustic (or keyboard) amp to play it thru. An electric guitar amp just won't give a acoustic guitar the sound you are looking for. I use a Roland AC 60 acoustic amp and it's everything I need.

Hey, Buzz. I have the exact same Tak - and like you said - "what a tone". With the right amp it sounds even better. Awhile back I was playing with a bunch of folks (just a git-together) and one of the guy's asked me if he could play my guitar. When I said he could he handed me his MARTIN to play. His comment was "If I had known you could get that sound out of a Takamine I would never have paid the price for the Martin. Had mine about 6 years, now, and the only problem I've had is some minor wearing of the frets where I spend most of my time playing. That's expected, so I guess I can't complain. For me D'arddio(sp) EJ16 seem to work best.

Hey, Cam. Where the heck ya been? Couple of changes have happened while you were away but the most important one is a "failure to post frequently" fee was recently established. Your fine, 1st offense, is only $2.00 (American) and can be paid directly to me via CASH. PM me for instructions on how to send. Please hurry as I need the money for gas.

Well I left the swamps and bayou's of South Louisiana, yesterday, and after about a 5 hour drive I made it to the mountains of North Louisiana and home. It sure is good to be home. Getting up early this morning and driving over to Shreveport, La. to get my new "home away from home" ready for me to move into on Monday after starting my new job.
