Hi bob

steelstrings wrote:I guess i just want to start writing my own songs, so i'd like some advice and tips from people who have.
Hi steelstrings
Basically I know of two ways to write a song.
One you got your words so you fit some music to go with them probabally some chord progession that fits the words you have in mind.
Two you got a chord progression you like maybe a melody etc then go find some words you like to fit if it's a song that's going to have lyrics.
I've written instumentals and the other type (ones with words). and I've started both ways though ususally it's the music that I have first.
What do you do with your songs once you've written them?
Well.....
You could just play it to yourself and think that's Cr## and bin it or think that's not half bad I'll keep and do nothing.
Play it to your friends/family see what they think. Post it up on Chordie. Maybe record it.... Post it on myspace/soundclick etc for the whole world to hear it.
It's up tp you.........

Hi joeyjoeyjoey
Don't apologise spend enough time on chordie and you will realise most questions/statements have asked before...
Anyway
My two penny worth.
Melody…Always the melody for me.
I can’t see how any song can be loved just for it’s words alone..
If you love the words only then you might as well read a poem.
All great lyricists songwriters have decent tunes to go with words.

Hi all
Just thought I'd post up this one up as my old electro acoustic leads the way (Not sure where though )
It's a multi mix with keyboards and various fx components all that means is that it just hides many mistakes
Easy listening with no deep message. Maybe put a on your face.........

Thanks for taking the time.

Hi Johnny
I think the narrative is the important part of your song saying that the chord structure is secondary and I believe can be altered many ways while the song will still retain it message.
The outlaw still holds a place in the heart of many people nice song...
ark
Hi bob

james howard wrote:I have just joined this site when searching for the chords to a particular song: Silver Blue by J D Souther. I note that there are several J D Souther songs on the site, but sadly not Silver Blue. I've had a quck look at some of the JDS songs and note that they are not in the recorded keys. A bit disappointing that. If anyone wants to transpose a song into another key that's fine but: Why not log them in here in the right/recorded key? I also notice that some of them appear to have the wrong chords unless, of course, my ears are defective which is not impossible. A bit disappoining really as I had heard many people talking about this particular site. Any comments?
Hi James
Thank you for you comments about Chordie.
If you feel that some of the songs from J D Souther are not on chordie perhaps you would like to add them yourself, Go to the Resources page the tab at the top of the page click then to "add songs to index" link and then type in the web addy of the song....
As to the song being in the wrong key Chordie leaves this up to the individual to decide as this can be quite easily altered as stated. Most members find this a great tool.
As already been said Chordie is a search engine only so it can only present the chords to a song as they are displayed in original link warts and all.

Hi daddy
I like this one.
What lies in the future is a mystery to us all. All I think is when mankind dies out which it will at some stage the earth will just go on...
Until the sun dies in a few billion years...
Haven't commented on a lot of your songs lately but I read them all.
Well done
ark
Ah... Can't beat the love of a good woman....
nice song johnny like the stills you put together in your video.
ark
Hi JCIT
I've played amateur guitar for more years than I care to mention and as I progessed (if that's the right word) I've had a bash at most of the well known acoustic songs some with success and others well..
Some that I go back to regularly just the for enjoyment of playing are Tears in heaven, Streets of London, House of the rising Sun.... etc
If you play long enough you sometimes forget what you've learnt in the past and then hear a song and think ah yes I used be able to play that..
ark
Hi daddy
I know where your coming from with this song...
Great stuff

papaguitar wrote:Hi all, Thanks for all the input. Greatly appreciated! First-my hp is a laptop, and Ark
I checked for an rca input but none. Funny I also have a Tascam portastudio 414
with no where near cd quality.
Hi papaguitar
I basically use the Tascam as a cheap interface somewhere to plug in a guitar/mic /keyboard then to the PC via the inline out on the Tascam not for recording.
The recording is done by the software on the PC in my case "Magix music maker" this produces a CD quality audio when the final mix is done.
An expensive interface is only one part of the mixing process and perhaps somewhat over rated.
A soundcard usually fixes inside a desktop PC on the motherboard and is not really an interface as such it just allows sound to played on the PC
The more expensive have more inputs of different kinds inline usb firewire etc also various outputs for surround sound an alike but if the PC you already have has a soundcard then a inline plug input is all you need.
If you are using a laptop to record then there is no decent input jack to record only the mic which is not really suitable.
ark
Hi papaguitar
My set up is similar to yours in fact I use an old 4 track Tascam as interface and use rca jack to connect to the PC. Most PC's have an inline rca socket usually on the back of the PC It's a bit old fashioned as usb and firewire connections are the norm now. If your using a laptop then you probably won't have the socket.
Using the mic input will cause problems as this is not really suitable for recording via the Tascam with noise bleeding through etc.
IMHO the best and easiest free recording software to use is "Audacity" though like all software it take a while to get use to but will return good results with some practice.
ark
Hi papaguitar
I don't use Cubase but with the software I use I have to set the record mode to "inline" which then records from an outside inline source instead of the "mic" which is the default setting. This is a computer setting on the sound card. Just a thought.

Hi Strans
