Thanks Everyone !

Tops I was actually singing part of the time smile but my camera does not have any working audio smile  I did use this guitar for the rhythm and I did record the vocals myself and played the lead guitar I just didn't do them all at once smile , I'm not sure Brittney can do anything other than wiggle around and look good smile

Heya Tony and Welcome,

Your never too old to take on a great relaxing, stress relieving hobby like guitar. Once you get your chord changes down you can start making music and enjoying yourself.
Most folks start with 3 chord songs so first thing you need to work on is chord progressions. Practice your G C D chords and you will have to be able to go from G to C  and G to D    D to C and  C to D   when you can make these chord changes move on to another key.

Key of     G    Chords G C D        relative minor chord  Em
Key of     D    Chords D  A G        relative minor chord  Bm
Key of     A     Chords  A D E        relative minor chord  F#m
Key of     C     Chords  C F  G       relative minor chord  Am

A lot of songs have a minor chord added and the relative minor of the major chord is most likely where they will show up in a song.

A 72 year old lady contacted me recently and had some questions and let me know she had just taken on guitar and she is doing very well after a couple months smile

I think you're on to something there Tops,

I have noticed folks seem to treat me with more respect since I lost my mullet lol

When you folks were chattin about old Clapton tunes it reminded me of this one. It is a fun song to play. Eric Clapton covered it on his 461 Ocean Boulevard Album. The original is better in my opinion and rumoured to be the last recording that Duane Allman did.

I don't get it either Zurf,

The store we have in our town is the best at letting you try anything you like and I always make sure I don't have a jacket or belt buckle to scratch their guitars. I never use a pick when I am trying out a guitar either. I go there alot and they are good to everyone as far as trying guitars.

A town close to us though is the exact oppisite I took a guitar down and strummed it without asking and I thought I was going to jail. I have been there a couple times since but I just look at the used stuff and don't ask to play anything. I don't need some one standing hovering over me like a butterfly while I am playing. It kinda makes you feel like you have done something wrong and you feel kinda dirty, I don't need it smile

Thank You, Russ

That is a weird feeling without the guitar I felt naked and very vulnerable and I don't have to think about timing when I am playing guitar and singing but just doing vocals is very different.

I did a cover of Christy Moore's song "Ride On'' I recorded it in 3 tracks with Audacity. I recorded the acoustic guitar first and then did the electric guitar and did the Vocals last.
I have played for other folks and accompanied them with guitar but this was my first time of doing vocals without my guitar. It was really weird for me. My guitar is kinda my security blanket.
I just used a condensor mic to record the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar I miked the amp.

So when I did the video I just played along with the recording smile

Benson,

I have never had to count much and was lucky that rhythm come easy for me but I have found when I am helping folks start out putting chords in blocks and counting the beats like the video really helps beginners out and they light up with a smile and say , I think I'm catchin on smile

Benson,

This is excellent, when you break chord progressions into how many beats of each chord and look at it. It makes strumming patterns so much easier. I've never played this song before and played it a few different ways and the strumming really isn't so important as the  1 2 3 4, 1 2,  1 2 , 1 2 3 4.

Thanks Zurf smile

Thanks Amy, I was gonna take the video down , but I guess I will leave it for awhile. One of the best tools to have in your bag of guitar tricks in my opinion, and have a nice rhythm whether strumming, picking or whatever your attack is. Learn your chords and learn to do an alternating bass with each chord.

Most of us lonely closet players will be playing alone most of the time and it makes your playing sound fuller and have a full band effect.

Helena, John is a just a wonderful musician, and Kathy is also. I have a friend that I graduated from high school with that played steel guitar with Kathy. I visited him a couple months ago and played with him.

Howdy,

I just built a N.D Wacadoo, a local band has a drummer that does a couple songs using his Nebraska Wacadoo. His looks better than mine. He uses an old fence post and has more gadgets on it than mine.

I wanted to keep it kinda light so my grandson Luke could handle it. I used a post hole digger handle about $10 and a rubber for the bottom $2.00  and some screws and some old Motorcycle license plates and drumsticks were $ 6.00  I was gettin kinda full of beer last night before I had enough beer caps, I think I used about 48 of them smile

Look for an upcoming video of Luke and I Jammin  smile

I am glad you got something out of it. I was not happy with the video but I didn't have much time. My little digital camera picks up voice pretty well but the guitar doesn't come thru very well. I should have plugged it into my amp and the effect would have come thru better smile

I bet within a day you will have it going pretty good smile

Thanks Lena,

Them's some good one's smile   I think "Ride On" is the best song I have come across in a couple years and it is so fun to play. I have a friend that plays slide guitar and I can't wait to play it with him. You folks have some great music in yer neck of the woods smile

Here's some lyrics and chords

Zurf,

I think you are wanting to do the same thing as I have been trying. You will need an interface and what it does is acts as a mixer and some are capable of many tracks and are expensive down to single tracks that are fairly reasonable. I have tried a couple of 2 track interface recorders and they are fairly reasonable.
Kap54 is using a Yamaha audio six, I think and it is capable of 2 tracks and is about $150. Most of the interfaces come with software for the mixdown and effects.

I come across this song from a friend that did a cover of it. This is just a wonderful song it's just a three chord song Christy capo's  sometimes first, second or third fret. He uses a Am, F and G  relative to the capo.

Amy,

I will do a vid on the first song I learned to do a chop pick on, "El Condor Pasa" it is simple and easy to follow. Once you have the chop and muting down you can use it in lots of songs and different arrangements. Just don't beat me up to bad on the vocal part of it my girls did the vocals and I was just the lonely guitar player smile

I hope Conan  can scrimp by on 44 million till september smile

I would sure like to give it a try smile

Remember Russ,

It has to last him till he finds another gig smile
