Zurf wrote:Great stories so far. Good idea for a thread. I'll have to go check out Strummer's story on the other forum.
I agree with Zurf and Amy--keep 'em coming!! There are some great story here from some terrific local artists in this group, I"m sure. I just went and saw my ukulele addiction "dealer"--HA! play in his ukulele jam band and saw an AMAZING guitarist!! If I get the umption, I'll post a link in the local bands thread--but it reminded me of how important it is to support local bands!!

Thank you so very much, Jim! Also, I sent you an email about your song! No need to reply--just wanted to give you an update! Hope you're well!
Howdy Fellow Chordies::Latest video of me documenting my journey to learn the ukulele! Still enjoying---the more I learn---I realize the less I know! But that's the fun part for me!!

All the best und SERVUS! to all your Aachen friends!

Danke schoen for your well wishes, Bill--including future endeavors--I HOPE to be able to play some live open mic gigs in Germany when I go back this summer!! And I think I should start taking German lessons from you! My German friends tell me to please speak English--they can understand me better!!
I don't know if I can call this a funny gig story or not, but I ended up having the opportunity to sing in Essen, Germany when I visited there for the first time in February. A local guitarists was able to sign me up for an open mic night last minute so I spent 3 days cramming for 6 different cover songs (and 1 original song!) ranging from Taylor Swift to Foo Fighters. That night, my friend and I ended up getting lost and we walked for almost 45 minutes at 10:30 PM in the cold, February, German air (windy as all get-out!) to get to the "gig." To say the least, I was exhausted and my throat was *killing* me. I was so freakin' nervous but I went on and had A BLAST!! The up side was the house band ended up joining in on the last 3 songs and I ended up playing with a full backing band: acoustic guitar, lead electric, bass, keys, and drums!! It was FANTASTIC--and the place was packed--NOT because of me but because of the house band!! The opportunity of a lifetime for me--I drank it in!! (but I was EXHAUSTED--definitely felt my age that night!)
Grah1 wrote:Probably the one about the drunken French guy is the best, he was dancing at the front and kept trying to get on stage . The bar owner "a big guy "escorted him out 4 times but somehow he kept getting back in and gradually got drunker ,As we started playing Iggy pops wild child he leapt on to the stage Steff and I both fell backwards into the drum kit ,but kept on playing Elpida our girl singer then grabbed both mic stands and carried on singing as though nothing had happened while the bouncers grabbed the guy and threw him into the street like something out of a wild west movie .Apparently they then gently escorted him well away from the bar. Any way he didn't return.
WHOA! I'm not sure how I would have handled all of that!! WOW!
Zurf wrote:Thanks Jeff. I forgot I could use my work computer. Here's another shot, which conveniently shows my other fashionable new hat. I think Topdown took this picture. Either him or Cowboy Keith.
Yeah Russell, I know those shoes are ugly, but it's like Guy Clark says, "I can work in them all day, and dance all night." You know, if I danced. Plus, if you've been following my shoe sagas on Facebook, you'll know that I have a thing for shoes and ugly shoes in particular. I think I have more shoes than my wife has.
Well. I guess the black hat at night doesn't show so good. You'll just have to trust that I'm wearing a hat because the flash isn't reflecting off my chrome dome.
GREAT photo, Zurf! Congrats!
Very nice!! Sung with conviction--like that lots!! Good job!
mekidsmom wrote:Jasmine Thompson... another amazing voice for you this lovely Thursday! She was "discovered" at 13 on YouTube for her covers of popular songs. Her debut album, Bundle of Tantrums, was self-released while she continued songs on YouTube. She's earned some airtime for sure, and has quite a beautiful voice. Sometimes high and sometimes smoky low. Enjoy!

Jandle wrote:Hi Kim, wow i went through and listened to all your ukulele video`s on you tube and I am seriously impressed! Your voice is awesome, love it and i am really impressed with the whole self taught, learning and sharing online together idea, very inclusive to other people who would like to give it a try or learn. I seriously cant get over how quickly you are picking up and learning strum strokes, making them your own and to write your own songs to boot!!!
Your story sounds similar to mine as in i never played an instrument until much later in life, started 4/5 years ago on the ukulele. Had tried the guitar and still love my guitar but self taught and play it badly in comparison to ukulele which is much easier to play for me
Amazed at your original songs that you are already putting to music, wow, wow, watch this space! I have only written 2 of my own songs so far, so already you are leaps and bounds ahead of me ........ makes me want to try write another one
Looking forward to seeing what else you write and perform in your video`s ....... i haven't braved the video world yet.... mainly cause i haven't got a you tube account (how bad is that!) lol
Your newest fan
Hi Jandle!! hahaa, you are so FABULOUS for the encouragement and the personal story--I really appreciate that!! I love hearing of other people's testimonies and of course, add in a ukulele testimony and you *got* me!! I would love to hear your music--do you have it posted anywhere---even if it's audio!! I very much appreciate the follow along and encouragement to have a good time--that's what we're all doing together!!
TIGLJK wrote:Wow - Kim
You have an outstanding voice. If you and KikiJan ever get together with your voices and ukes - it would surely be fantastic !
Nicely done!
JIm
Thanks so much, Jim!! That would be VERY fun to do something together if there were ever an opportunity!! Jan is VERY talented and has beautiful vocals!!
mekidsmom wrote:Hey Kim! Nice job! Obviously, you are having a BLAST with the Uke, and your music journey. You are doing GREAT! That strumming is coming along fantastic, and a CHOP to boot! How about that? Awesome! Just in case no one has said it, I'm proud of you girl! Keep going!
Amy, VERY much appreciate the girl power encouragement here!! Thank you and yeah--if I can stick with this for more than a month, it will be about 5 day longer than I lasted on the piano! Hope to jam with you sometime at one of your outdoor jams!!
Tenement Funster wrote:That's great work, Kim ... you're having fun and investing in practice, and it's showing and shining!
Thank you so much! Yes, fun and addiction are going hand in hand!
unclejoesband wrote:Very nice Kim. I went through your entire series of videos. You have a lovely voice.
Me? I can play the guitar but I sing like a bullfrog in heat. But I enjoy it.
Enjoy your ukulele journey. You've made great progress in a few short weeks. Hopefully you can join us at one of the Chordie events this year.
Hi Uncle Joe! Thank you kindly! I play guitar like a bullfrog so we're even!! Ha! Actually not because you play a beautiful guitar soooo.... And I hope to get our bullfrogs together at one of your get togethers! Would love it!!
dino48 wrote:I enjoyed your song Kim you have very good voice.
Haahaa, Thanks so much! It was fun and silly to do. I'll post the chords in the other forum in case anyone wants to take a swing. Appreciate the step by!
I live in the New England area where the motto is: If you don't like the weather; wait 5 minutes... it'll change. So far, holding steady and cold at 31(ish) degrees Farenheit for some days, but I'm sure that'll change soon. We did get a mini-blizzard on the second day of spring.
Hi Chordies!!
A little over two weeks with my ukulele and having a blast!! I hope any new uke players that come across this site will join in!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=powBoGHSmbQ
Really enjoyed that a lot!! Great energy and playing---and your vocals have a great gritty quality often times missing in those types of songs! Very well done!!
arkady wrote:HI kim Good luck with your Ukulele journey.
The Ukulele seems to have got rather popular of late or more probably I just didn't take much notice of the instrument being a guitar man. LOL
Anyway I found your songs entertaining and worth developing. Being mostly an instrumental composer I find lyrics hard to do and always admire songwriters with the ability to literary find the words.
ark
Hi Arkady the Guitar Man! Thank you for perusing them. I am definitely a light, fluffy, pop singer//song-writer. Nothing I do or say is meant with any great clever, depth, or wisdom--just more fun and light. I ALWAYS admire anyone who can make a backing track--that's where I very struggle!! It's like peanut butter and jelly -- only peanut butter and it sticks to the roof of your mouth---only jelly and it's a tad too sweet. haahaa--it's Friday here so I"m in my "not making much sense" mode. Anyway--thanks so much for commenting !! Happy Friday to you!
Agree with everyone!! Two great productions!! Admittedly, I really liked Old Friends!! That deep dip is really catchy and loved the lyrics!! Both enjoyed both thoroughly!
Completely agree!! Another stellar find!! The single guitar with the three voices is amazing. There's nothing like tearing family voices and harmonies together. And I also enjoyed that they kept the video production interesting but not distracting from the real stars!! Thank you!! I know life gets busy but you find such wonderful listens!! Greatly appreciate it!
Thank you for posting! Loved watching them and wish I had playing partners like them!

I saw the posts but didn't realise it was his birthday too. Very sad indeed.
arkady wrote:Hi Kim
The songs as presented with chords and lyrics are fine as they are here in the songwriting forum.
I will have a listen when I get on my PC with a decent sound system.

Wonderful! I already found a couple of mistakes, so I need to edit those. Also, Dino48 have some good variation suggestions in this thread on how to improve it! Yay!

Hi Dino! Definitely checking that out!! Will have to look up A7 and G7!! Love this advice!! THANK YOU!!
