When looking at old photos, not sure I would want to go there again. although the wife sure looked good and still does after 43 years. We got married in 1970.

I think Guitar Center sells a stand that holds 7 or 8 guitars.

Know what you mean about old fingers not working like they used to. If the F is giving you trouble try it with the small F untill that barre comes to you. When going from a F barre to G7 I tend to slide to the 3rd fret G7. Bensonp I think I'll have to take that song out off my book untill I can get a hat like that.

Hi Russ
Can't offer any help but I also am jealous. Being a woodworker I would love to build my own guitar. Would be totaly lost when it came to the electronics.
best of luck with the project

Welcome, Rob
Chordie is the best. Love the fact that so many of us old farts are learning or relearning to play. Mine was in storage for 25 years.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully I'll only improve and Maddie loves to act and sing. My oldest grand daughter is taking up the guitar, someday we can all jam.
BGD, I'm not to far from Bristol, over by Elkhart. Used to take the kids to Eby's for our christmas trees.

One of my grand daughters (Maddie age 8) attends school in the summer at Notre Dame. They had a music share and she asked me if I would play the guitar for her to sing. Since I've only been strumming for a few months I was a bit nervous but I said I would. Didn't go to bad but had to laugh when this was posted.

As artists age voices may dwindle. As I age my hearing is going so all my old favorites still sound good.

Looking for suggestions on artists I can look up in Chordie that record childrens songs (like Puff the Magic Dragen). Would like to sit down with the grandkids for sing alongs.
Childrens songs might be a nice addition to the public song book section.

While reading a thread in acoustic about 12 strings it was said that the double strings are not tuned the same. This made me wonder about the double strings an a mandolin. I have one that was given to me and if I ever decide to take it out of the case I'll have to tune it.

Thanks for all the imput. Think I'll take her to Guitar Center and let her take a look. As long as she keeps it in the 200. to 250. range. Who knows, maybe she'll want to use the Peavey I have. I do have a small Peavey amp that came with the guitar. Just thought that if she quits in month or two like kids do I wanted something that would not end up in the closet. (always wanted a acoustic-elec cutaway for grandpa)

Re: New strummer (maybe) (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Classical guitars are far cheaper than acoustic and nylon strings are gentler on beginners fingers. That is the way I would go.
Roger
Don't classical guitars have wider necks that would be harder to finger chords? Or am I on the wrong train of thought?

Topic: New strummer (maybe) (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
My granddaughter (age 12) wants to take up the guitar. My problem is what to get her for a guitar. Don't want to let her use mine, it's to good to get banged up. I do have a Peavey Strat that was given to me but it's so heavy I don't even like to play it. Also not sure if her parents want to listen to a amp while she is learning. While searching the web for something cheap but not to cheap (in case this doesn't last I want to be able to play it) I came across a Ibanez Talman. Looks small enough for a young girl, comes in colors that she might like, a cool shape and is acustic-elec. Does anyone have any comments on this guitar that might help me make up my mind?

My daughter set up her computer to record me on video.... big mistake as I now realise how bad my singing is, its knocked the stuffing and enthusiasm out of me. Still strum but now just whisper the words under my breath just to help keep time.
hardydog as long as it sounds good to you dont worry about anyone else , when i`m singing along at least i know i will get the room to myself !! long as you enjoy it it doesn`t matter , just don`t record yourself again !!
Need a plastic guitar, I only sound good in the shower.
