I agree with neo ! Just one more. I was down to 3 and now at 6. But I like what I have and don't really lust for anything special. Not to say the hunt is over. I'm always looking.

Re: Frets wearing out (27 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I have the same problems with dents in the frets. I have had two guitars that I've had fret replacements done. Not cheap and if you have a bound neck it's more money. I know mine come from pressing harder on the strings than I should. I learned on a cheap guitar with a higher action and I never broke myself of the habit of pressing to hard. So I think the two major causes are high action and pressing to hard on the strings. I have the action right on all my guitars . I just need to lighten my fretting hand. Good luck.

Re: Often change tuning key? (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I agree with Bluejeep . You will find when you change tuning a lot the string tone will change. Strings won't have the bright tone they do when they are new. So you will probably want to change strings for that reason. That's why most performers keep one guitar for special tunings. Not a big deal to retune though. And it won't hurt your guitar.

I like it . Different feel to it. I can almost hear John Mellencamp doing it. Keep it the way it is. Sad songs have a place too.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Try to be positive it will help in the future. I have owned several Gibson electrics and love them but have not owned an acoustic. I have played a couple acoustics over the years and I do like them. I own Martins and Taylors and the Gibson neck is a little different. Not bad just a little different feel. I find my hand likes the feel of the Martin/Taylor style neck. I do like the sound of the Gibson which again is different from the Martin/Taylor sound. I say go for it as you have your wife's approval and you know it will be passed on to your family. Let us know when you get your new friend.

Nice job on this song I really liked it. In my head Phil's voice had a John Lennonish sound and fell to it. Loved it.

Re: Tribute acts love em or hate em? (14 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Cover songs pay the bills.
It`s as simple as that,i prefer originals. But lets face it the huge majority
of bands do covers.Although i saw The Bootleg Beatle Band.Great night of
music. If ya can`t see the real thing a good cover is sometimes ok.
So true. When I play gigs the more Cover songs you do the longer you keep the crowd. But I still like to hear someone's original songs .

Re: Tribute acts love em or hate em? (14 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I think it's very hard for anyone to exactly copy an original. As a tribute band that's who you get compared to. So I love to hear people who do their own version of popular songs. I've had people blow me away with their own take on a song. I've even done a few songs where people told me my version was better than the original. I try not to compare people to the original because I want to hear originality from the performer. So Rock on Chordians.

Thank you Tyson
I'm really not a songwriter - just a guy that likes to wear emotions on the sleeve. That's the great part that I cherish so much about Chordie - so many people that have a multitude of perspectives - it allows for honest and real feedback.
I am so honored when someone likes one of my attempts at a song. I am surely just a novice, and I have learned first hand about the dire warning you give in your last line:
"There is one down side to writing good songs : the next one always has to be better." It doesn't always happen that way for sure. Thanks for your comments.

ps HOW 'bout them PACKERS !!!
Hey how 'bout those Packers !
Keep on writing ,that's how we become better. It's hard to make the next one better. But it's a good challenge. I've written quite a few songs and I don't always get the next one better. It's fun when a new idea becomes a song. Keep up the good work. And I agree Chordie has some great members.

Great song. The lyrics paint a clear story of this relationship. I like it when songs like these creep into your mind. You said it had no connection to what's happening in your life. That moves your songwriting into a new area. A place experience won't help and emotions need to show you the way. It shows you can put a meaningful song together without experiencing the situation. I'd say it's a step up as a songwriter. Keep writing great songs like this. There is one down side to writing good songs : the next one always has to be better.

About three weeks ago I did the same thing. I was in a local music store and saw and played a really nice Taylor guitar. The sound jumped out at me. I've worked with this store before and they gave me a great price on the last one. They did the same thing on this one. I told them I'd think about it . No pressure at all. I called them back and said I decided not to buy it. I have 3 other Taylor and 2 Martin acoustics. Did I need one more acoustic ? Of course I did , but I was proud I didn't buy it. A week later I came across an Orville by Gibson ES-335 and I bought it. Hey, it's an electric which I didn't have. I'll post pictures when I get one taken.

Re: New pickup day (8 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
TF , The Anthem has a mic under the bridge and a under the saddle pickup also. There is a dial so you can blend the two, more or less of either one. So it does have a daul signal.
That's why I'm questioning the cable. Does that shed a little more light on the subject ? Do you have any other thoughts ?
