Spending the week in Dayton, Ohio for business. My brother lives here so, as a bonus, I'm taking him to see Nora Jane Struthers and the Party Line Sunday night in Columbus. (http://www.norajanestruthers.com) Tickets in hand and I'm excited.

Two brothers in a rental, this will be fun.

Thanks, and the same to all of Chordie. I drove to Atlanta to spend time with my family. I am THANKFUL for this joyous time with them. Arrived back in VA around midnight last night after dropping my son at the University of Virginia. I declared today a mental health day hence my mid-morning Chordie marginalia!

Bonus: Georgia Tech beat the University of Georgia in football! One of two football games I watch each year and the only one I really care about.

I've owned a few Snark tuners. I like them but I keep giving them away to other players who, amazingly, have never seen an electronic tuner. My current primary tuner is another brand but it works the same. The Martin tuner app is a good backup.

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of my last guitar purchase. It is difficult for me to believe I haven't, bought, sold or traded a guitar in a year. There is hope or maybe I've finally gotten back to playing?

God Bless you NELA.

Welcome to the very best journey one can have. I started at 45 or so. I'm not very good but I love it and it brings joy to my life. And that's enough for me.

Zurf,
Here's the luthier I'm considering. I haven't transacted with him yet but he is responsive to email and his website leaves a good impression.

Well Nao - I went up to Gettysburg without you and bought a leather strap for $45.  He even stamped "ZURF" into it for me and added two more adjustments.  It's so nice, I think I'm going to put it on Boomer instead of Tiny.  I have the leather strap thingy, but would like to have a proper button put on the neck.  Send me the info on that local luthier you found.

Edit to add:
1. You can come here and borrow my tools if you like.
2. You should come out some time and play.  I'll call Jets60 and Damien101 and UncleJoesBand isn't too far away once you figure out a time we can do it.

- Zurf

$45 is something to consider. On playing: thanks for the invite. I will consider this.

Free range chickens are a fact of life up here on the mountain, they lay eggs in the flower garden so I get the added benifit of free breakfast. When I go for walks they will follow along and eat things I stir up as I walk. Once in a while someones goats, cattle or horses gets out and does a little free ranging too. I used to have a piece of furniture on the front porch that was decorated with plastic vines and the goats ate all the leaves off it, they eat just about anything.

Hilarious! Goats eating plastic leaves.

Sorry to hear your news. I went through similar challenge last year. I recommend using LinkedIn.
Good luck.

I've heard his name bandied about. I think there is special edition Martin guitar bearing his name. Now I've stumbled upon his music. He's from Georgia. I'm from Georgia. Pretty large rock I've been under is all I can say. What a treat to "discover" a new artist and new music!

I was not able to find a competent, trust-worthy guitar technician or luthier to install strap pin at the heel of my guitars in time for today’s CABOMA jam. This installation requires drilling a hole not difficult for anyone with any handiness and good judgement. I do not trust the retail stores and I have no luthier friends. I would do the work myself but I am away from my tools.

Living away from my home has caused me to reassess what I will and won’t pay someone else to do for me. I paid someone to repair my bicycle and I will likely pay someone to do this guitar work.

In the meantime I need to play standing, today, therefore I need a strap. Not my first choice, but I bought and installed a leather strap at the nut of my guitar. This enables me to connect a strap without drilling. I installed the strap on my Simon & Patrick Mahogany Folk guitar. I chose this guitar because I have a case for it. My other guitar, the dreadnought, is between cases right now as I search for a replacement for the old one.

So off to the CABOMA jam today with my new strap. Upon arrival I connected my new strap to the guitar and slipped it over my head. Perfect! The guitar hung exactly where it is supposed to and it was secure. I played standing for two hours with no incident. Playing while standing is a different experience and one I think I will like. A small victory and another step for me to GET BACK TO PLAYING.

I have made contact with a local luthier who will install a strap pin for $15 (including the pin). I will visit him soon to have one installed on the dreadnought and maybe on the folk guitar as well. It is now time to buy a second strap for the dreadnought. I have one picked out. It’s $42 which is a little expensive but it will last me the rest of me life.

p.s. By the way, I bought a Souldier brand strap. Made in Chicago and it is made from recycled seatbelt. I think mine was from a 1970 Buick Skylark!

Congratulations on your anniversary and the new guitar strap.

I just bought my first strap after trying to blend in at Blue Grass jams without one. Not recommended. I hope to field test it this weekend at the jam.

I bought my first strap. Zurf, despite your excellent and very tempting idea, of arranging for a custom strap with the words GET BACK TO PLAYING on it, I opted for expediency and low(er) cost. Maybe one day I'll buy the custom strap but for now I just need a strap. I attended my Bluegrass jam on Sunday. That's a standing activity, plain and simple. Sitting makes one an outcast and it stymies the roving motion of the jam circle.

I chose a dark brown nylon (recycled seat belt) with metal adjustment ring and leather ends. It turns out, guitar strap selection is modeled after the running shoe industry: too MANY choices and most of them obnoxious! I'd like my strap to have character but I don't want it shouting it to the world. Heck, I'd likely be booted from the guitar jam for obstruction of music.

The next challenge is selecting from the myriad of strap pin options for the heel. As is per acoustic guitar custom (apparently) mine only have one strap pin? That's like buying a car with three wheels!

Also I'm in search of a new case for my dreadnought. My old case was no longer functional for me so I sold it on Craig's List. I am trying to decide for a traditional hard case and one of those new-fangled semi-hard foam cases. I've owned both so I know the advantage & disadvantages. It will boil down to availability, cost, and weight.
