There is something quite magical about finding an old rusty forgotten motorcycle
or car and taking the time to restore it. For those of us who have done this you
understand the great feeling of accomplishment that comes from restoring and
rebuilding an old vehicle. Bringing it back from the dead. Giving it a new life.
Metaphorically restoring our own selves in the process. The experience of restoring
is rewarding and the experience of driving is like a time machine.
Transports you back.... That feeling is what inspired this new song:

Wichita Lineman has been called the first existential country song and made the Rolling Stone Magazine list of 500 greatest songs at #192. Here's some background on the song: "Jimmy Webb's inspiration for the lyric came while driving through rural southwestern Oklahoma. Heading westward on a straight road into the setting sun, Webb drove past a seemingly endless line of telephone poles, each looking exactly the same as the last. Then, in the distance, he noticed the silhouette of a solitary lineman atop a pole. He described it as "the picture of loneliness". Webb then "put himself atop that pole and put that phone in his hand" as he considered what the lineman was saying into the receiver. Glen Campbell added in a statement to the Dallas Observer that Webb wrote the song about his first love affair with a woman who married someone else." - Wikipedia

Thank You all for listening.... I just now wrote another poem that may become a new song.

Bill, Thanks for taking the time to comment on YouTube! I don't get many comments on YT for my originals.

This started out as a poem.
I shared the poem and got such a strong reaction with many people
asking me to make a song of it.
It was not intended as a song but I gave it a try and this is what
I ended up with:

Yesterday the wife took the kids to the movies so I had couple of hours of quiet house!
Not often does that happen so I quickly grabbed the video camera and set it up with mic.
Decided to play this Westerberg song about First Love.

I'd like to forward this to my local college radio station, KSCL.

If they wanted to play it, is that okay with you?

Otherwise, I'll just leave it alone.

Good job.

You got a clean recording, and still maintained the rawness, which I particularly embrace.

Thank You! It certainly is OK with me.
In fact tell them they can simply download quality audio from my BandCamp page FREE.

I put togetehr this solo acoustic version and sang another vocal track and mixed it in.
Also did a bit of whistling to get the synth parts in.
Added a series of images to put the song in context along with video of my performance:

Allow me to be a proud Dad here please:
U2's latest theme is Innocence + Experience and we recently gave our Innocent
10 year old boy the Experience of his first rock concert... a U2 concert... what
happened next exemplifies Innocence and Experience! Our son was so inspired
by that experience and the music he looked up Ukulele chords for this U2 song and
learned it then he auditioned for his school talent show and made the cut as the
encore performer.... first ever time performing music on stage for an audience!

I was careful not to put him on any of my own YouTube music channels. This
is a non music channel of mine I use for miscellaneous stuff. If you feel like
liking and commenting on YouTube it sure would mean a lot to him.

Here's one I call Hippie Anthem.
I grew up in the Hippie counterculture in the 1960s.
Wrote a song to celebrate those times:

Neil Young was a huge influence on me growing up and his music
motivated me to learn guitar and inspired me to start writing my
own songs.  I learned a bunch of Neil Young songs when I was a kid
in the 1970s.  Around 2006 was when I started to record them for posterity.
I ended up having so many that I made a separate YouTube channel
for them all.  Here it is:

I've always been a big Mats fan and when Westerberg went solo of course I followed his solo career.
I have 13 songs covered so far.
Here's the playlist:

I could not find chords for this song so made some up by ear.
I was interested to learn about what inspired Peter Gabriel to write
such a disturbingly chilling song and I put that in the video description.

Joe Leonard is the only American racer to win multiple national championships in both motorcycles and cars.
My friend Lorin Guy wrote a song for Joe and asked me to help him produce this video.
We were able to show this video on DVD to Joe Leonard himself last week before it went public.
It was priceless to be there and see Joe's reaction to his entire career told by images and song.
He shed tears of joy. Proud to be a part of helping my friend with this very special tribute to a Legend:

Wrote and first recorded this song in 2009 and decided to do a
new recording with my new microphone today. Only the second
time I've played this song. I usually record a song then promptly
forget it and move on.
Took me a while to reconstruct the chords I used.... I should write
chords down but I don't:

part of what I do is help others improve upon their audio and video.
I have done this for so many friends, many of whom know nothing about technology or how to go about it.
And so it is with Michael Eric Knight.  Michael has been making thin sounding recordings on his iPhone and
his material is fantastic but the recordings don't do the songs justice.

So in order to stimulate Michael to improve his recordings I took a very thin sounding recording of his and mastered the audio for him.
I got Michael to send me the original video file from his iPhone so I could extract the original audio to a WAV file.
Then I mastered the audio best I could given the thin recording and then used his iPhone video with the new audio.
I told Michael that if he gets a better microphone for his iPhone (like the Apogee) we can do much better for him.

So Michael is excited because this is his first ever YouTube video.
He always just made iPhone videos and uploaded direct to Facebook.
Anyway the song itself is Excellent which is why I did it for him. It deserves to be heard.
I have helped many artists in this manner and it is a pleasure to help others:

Give Michael a listen and if you're on YouTube give him some kudos too!

I've always loved Jimi Hendrix music and listened to this album a lot.
My first exposure to Hendrix was his first album "Are You Experienced?" because my teenage aunts and uncle had the album.
Made a huge impression on me as a child.
It never ever occurred to me to even attempt a cover of a Jimi Hendrix song because he is one of the greatest guitar players.
I knew I would never be anywhere close to that good.

But I had to try it so I got the chords and dumbed it down to my skill level... just played it my way.
Gave it the best I had in my own simple way:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuIGpeNMuh0

Thank you all for listening! I first heard that album on an 8 track circa 1969-1970 in my uncle's 1968 Mustang Fastback.
Even as a kid I was struck by this song..... In 1978 my cousin was taking guitar lessons and brought home a chord/lyric sheet for this song.
That is when I started playing it..... played it for 3 decades with a flatpick and decided to go bare fingers on it for this video.

solo acoustic cover of the Blind Faith song written by Steve Winwood:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6nC8lIPRLk

Downloaded the chords, practiced through it once and since I know the song in my head I played it without needing the lyrics only to discover that I switched the first and second verse!
I hate do-overs because the feeling is lost every time I try to do a song over... so I let this first take stand as is with the switched verses....
The hazards of playing from a memory of the song. I first bought this album when it was new. I added a subtle harmony vocal to the chorus:
