Afternoon chaps.

How long after first picking up your guitar, did you do your first live performance?

I only ask, because I've been set a bet by my friend, to play live before the coming christmas, having been learning for about nine months now.

Chaaaars!

funnily enough, I have more problems with an F than a B. I can quite smoothly change into a B (ish), where as a proper F still makes me hesitate for a second.

On topic, I hate the D/G (or similar), because I just can't work out a comfortable way to hold a D and add a bass note. I often end up cheating and just play the bottom two open with a normal D

Well I had a quick blast last night. The frets are so small, When I had a practice on the guitar it felt like I was a squirrel in a forest. In fact it made me realise that you have a lot of room for movements on a guitar.

Still the mandolin sounded sweet, and I found a tab for losing my religion that I'm pasting my way through.

I got one today, probably the worst one in the world, but I'm really looking forward to getting it home and tuning it up and bashing about!

Hey!

Another song i jotted down. I'm not overly happy with it all, but well here goes!

Like Kids in Cartoon'sApeDoctor

[C7]It’s Monday and it’s raining

This weathers getting me down

[D7]I wish that I could see you

Through the tear drops on the glass

* Chorus *

[Cm]Why can’t we run

[G7]Like those kids in cartoons

They always seem to find a way

The sun is always rising on their smiles

[C7]It’s Tuesday and its raining

Two days until your back

[D7]The river that divides us

Will soon be running dry

* Chorus *

[C7]It’s Wednesday and its raining

I’m thinking about your smile

[D7]Happy times we shared

Seem so long ago.

* Chorus *

[C7]It’s Thursday and its raining

I’m building myself up

[D7]Roses in my pocket

24 hours and we’ll cry together again

* Chorus *

[Bb]It’s Friday and it’s storming

I saw you at the airport

You passed me right on by

Who’s the guy your dancing?

[Dm]Maybe one day, your heart might beat for me.

Now, its not really strummed, its this new thing that im in love with.

Basically you pick the 2nd and 5th strings, for beat 1&2&

Then its the 1st string and the 5th string for beats 3&4&

Enjoy.

Does anyone know a good way to meet fellow learning players?

It can get quite boring playing on your own, and my only friends who play all now live well out the way.

Is there a website specially designed for this sort of thing?

Cheers.

Oh, and im around portsmouth uk.

Hello! My second swing of the songwriting bat!

EDIT : Added the chords sorry!

The First verse, is all the E Shaped Barre along the bottom there.
The Second Verse is open except the F
The Third Verse is all Fmaj 7 shape moved along.

The Gb7 is always the barred version on the 2nd fret.

The Instrumentals are along the vein of C, C7, A, Asus2, D, Dsus2  but with a D,UU pattern for each.

The whole song is played all rather slow, and rhythmically.

Edit again : can't seem to get it to show up properly...

Hey folks.

Is anyone any good at transcribing? There is a song I really want to learn (not a guitar song) to play to someone important. I've tried the song requests here, and got nothing back. I've even emailed the chap who wrote (and sung!!) the song, and he very kindly replied saying that he no longer has the required sheet music for me to work with, and suggested that i get someone who can, to transcribe it.

None of my guitar friends are any good at it, and I don't even know where to begin!

The song is called :

Kites are fun, by the Free Design.

Here is a youtube link : http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NxEM3-YiQGc

I have no problem with throwing a sweetener at someone who could help!

Hey. The song Pat Balloon, I wrote myself smile  (Thats the one on myspace that plays automatically)

Its only a work in progress, so yeah its capped at a minute at the moment! We have some more verses etc written, but have not got a round to recording the whole lot yet!

Thnaks for the comments.

Well, I recorded my first song via the wonders of GarageBand (which is actually pretty good I've discovered).

It's not me singing, I don't think ears would survive!

Anyway, here's the link :

http://www.myspace.com/paintedwaves

Hope you like it!

I wrote it, and I'm playing the acoustic. It's my friend Gregory on the vocals, and he's also strumming a semi-acoustic, same chords, but different versions.

There is also a (very) bad video of us covering kids by MGMT

I have to say (in a kind and warmly way) how much your post amused me. Ferrets hehe!

As Zurf above said, With practice it will come. The more you practice, the quicker it will be. But don't over do it, and remember to have fun, its easy to get frustrated with barre chords!

Just wait until you have to do a proper "A shaped barre" B Chord!

Also, here is a website thrown around a lot on here, that will answer ever question you will ever need to know about learning the guitar :

hi 2 all can any1 help me with strumming for this song ??  e.g  d,d,u,u,d or whatever lol!!

Hello to all! Can anyone help me with the strumming pattern for this song? For example, is it similar to d,d,u,u,d?

Many Thanks, tripleb.

That's for everyone who struggled to make sense of the "text speak" like myself.

Anyone?

I've scoured the internet to no avail! Tried sheet music sites, tab sites, google!

What about learning Clapton's version of classical gas?

Edit : Do you mean picking or strumming?

Also you listed Blackbird, have you tried picking it rather than strumming it? Truely a beautiful song. I myself have just learned (nearly!) it via the picking.

Hey chaps.

Now that I've learned blackbird, I want to move on to my next picking challenge, and I've settled on this great great song.

I've found some chord tab's for it, and I've tried a range of appegios to these chords, but it doesn't quite sound right.

Does anyone know a good picking pattern to work to, I've listened to the song a terrific amount, but I just can't get it.

Thanks.

Walk before you can run, but you will know that from your trumpet days!

Personally, I didn't take the easy way out. My teacher tried to get me to do the "easy" barre chords, but I persisted on doing the full ones, and he's no longer my teacher.

Its taken me about four or five weeks, but the E shaped barre's are clear and strong now, just a tiny fraction delay in getting there, which I hope to iron out in a month or so.

The A shaped ones, again, I can get them to sound clear, just a delay again.

My advice is take them on, in the long run it will be far more beneficial for you. They are still going to be as hard to learn now as they will be if you only decide to take them up in a year or two. I suspect that might be more irritating, being able to play smoothly, but barre chords still hard to do.

Just my penny's worth.

I wouldn't mind throwing Graham Coxon into the mix too. Underrated I would say.

Perhaps a not too well known band from late 60's / early 70's.

Can't find any tabbage (not cabbage wink   ) for any of their songs. In particular :

Kites are Fun
Bubbles
Butterflys are Free.

Does anyone know which direction to look?
