Thanks for the advice, I'll look up the internet, again many thanks.

Luck and health to all!!!!

Hi to all at Chordie,
Anytime I have posted a question on any of the forum sites, I usualy

get an answer,at least one sometimes more. However I posted a question on the  Other

Stringed Instruments, about some advice for a Tenor Banjo, I have recevied nothing, even

from the Moderatiors of the site, yet some of the other questions on that site seem almost

trival. I would have even been happy if one of the Modarators had said sorry can't help

with that question. However I still think Chordie is one of the best sites on the Net.

Luck and Health to all!!!

To Russell and Stonebridge, thanks for the quick answers, I thought that there was no limit on

the Dom7th chord within reason, but I just wanted to make sure, so thank you both.

Yes Stonebridge, I watched her play and at 92, to play a right handed Guitar left handed with

the strings still on the way for the right handed Guitar is just WOW!

Luck and Health to all!!!

Hi to all,
As well as learning the guitar, I have a four string Tenor Banjo by Oazark.

I have tried many sites but they all seam to be for the five string Banjo, so any advice would

be welcome, plus any sites I could go to.  Also could anyone explane what rolling means

I read it all the time, also what kind of Picks would I need, I don't use a flatpick when

playing the Guitar, I use my thumb, I have a Lady- -friend of mine who cuts my right hand

thumb nail at an angle and I have worked up a nice little callous on my thumb.

Is it possable to play the Banjo by thumb.  I have a book of chords for the Tenor Banjo, but

to stop myself getting confused while learning the Guitar I tuned the Banjo ( D G B e ) and

play Guitar chords for now, but I would now like to move on and learn the Tenor Banjo the

right way.   I await any advice or help.

Luck and Health to all!!!

Hi Guys,
I thought this one would be for the Music Theory buffs, I have a copy of Freight Train
by Elizabath (Libas) Cotton.  The song is in the key of [G] but it has two Dominant 7th
Chords in the Version I have, IE, [ G, B7th, C, D7th ] is this normal, to have Two Dominant
7th Chords in the same song.

Hi, to all at Chordie,

I haven't been on the computer much latley, got a new kitchen installed.  This post is more for

the Chordie Members in the UK, I went to see Kenny Rogers in Belfast last night, apart from

starting to look his age his voice is just as good, the only dissapointment was I thought he

could have sang a few more songs. Still I enjoyed the show, he now starts a short tour of the

mainland and if you get the chanch to go I recomend you go if your a fan.

Hi, jamiejah,

I know this is a bit late but I have not been reading the Forum this last couple of weeks?

We don't celabrate St Pat's Day up here in the North as they do in the South, but it is starting

to be; more than it ust'd be.  However if you would like a song from the North for St Pat's Day,

try (The County of Armagh).   That's apple country; like Cider man!

Hi lunamoon,

I live in Belfast, my daughter gets her nails done.  They cost her £50 to get them

at the start and £30 every two weeks to keep them in good condition, however they don't seem

to be too strong as she has usualy chiped or cracked one before the two week refit is up.

There was an artical in one of the Guitar Mags just before Christmas, (I will try and look it up)

there is some woman in England who does all the big Guitar stars who use false nails, she is

supposed to be that good some of the real big Rock and Metal stars flay her at their own,

expence to the U.S.A just to fix their nails.  That is all she does but I don't think they would be

ordanary Acrylic nails, and I would think they would cost more than £50.  She does this for all

the top stars over the world, and even if the fad ended in a few years time she'll be a rich

woman by that time. As to the fact of wheather they damage the real nail underneath, it

didn't say.

To Riverdales and Roger,

Many thanks for the replys, Roger I do wear the strap at the same angle, perhaps an

adjustment would be in order, Riverdales, you may have a point about the neck being a lot

more narrow than an Acustic, I only got it at Christmas, so perhaps it will take a bit of time to

get used to?  I'll soldier on in the mean time, if it hurts to much I'll stop and rest the hand and

the arm.

Luck and Health to all!!!

Hi Riverdales,  Thanks for taking the time to reply.

When I said my arm and hand hurt I ment when I was playing the Electric Guitar.

As you say it is a lot simpler to hold down the chords on the Electric, that's not the problem,

the problem is that my hand cramps and my arm feels like I have been lifting weights.

I don't understand it as I use the same left hand grip whichever guitar I play; and I play sitting

down.  I also have one of those little hand excerciser and there are great for building up the

strenght in the hands and fingers.  But unlike you I get tired playing the electric guitar and

yet I can go on to play the Acoustic Guitar, doesen't make sence?  Something is wrong; either,

with me or the way I am playing the Electric Guitar;  Go Figure?

Luck and Health to all!!!

Hi, to all,
Now before anyone goes saying this should be on the Electric Forum, I have already put it

their, and recived One reply. Yet their is a question on the electric Forum which I think should

have been on this site, IE (How Old Is Everyone) it got 111 replys. Now I am Not being petty

but I felt my question was not so trival.

The question is simply I started playing Acoustic Guitars, and then I got an Eletric one for

Christmas, now when I play it my hand gets cramped and my arm feels like I have been trying

to push a car uphill with one arm. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas?

As for the person who posted the question  (How Old Is Everyone ) no hard feelings this post

is not directed towards you, so don't take offence.

Thanks Alan for taking the time to answer.  I have to attend the Ulster tomorrow for a chest

X-ray, so I'll go after that, thanks again.

By the way like you songs, I'd love to hear them on Y-Tube.

Hey Alan, did you have this done at the Ulster Hospitial, or was it private.  I wouldn't mind

having it done if it was through the NHS.  Also does your hearing aid use many battries, as

mine seems to do, I would love to know.  Also if it was done on the NHS, I wouldn't mind

Losing the T-Loop.  Hope to hearing from you soon.

I have five Guitars; two Acoustic, one of which is a twelve string, Two Elecrro-Acoustic and

one Electric Guitar a Tanglewood based on the Fender Strat.  The problem I have is that the

Electric Guitar has a very slim neck and after playing for awile my hand gets sore and

cramped. Now all the other Guitars have wide necks in comparasion with the Electric, the

twelve string has the wideist neck of all but none cause any problems; compared to the

Electric  Guitar, is this unusual or is it something I have to get used to; or is there another

reason for my hand getting tired and cramped, I hold all the Guitars in the same Left-handed

Grip, I hope somebody can help.

Ach, Alan,  ya  big softie I never thought you had it in you LOL?

Just Kidding,  if you can get chords to go with it you might have something, I've seen worse,

and I'm not being funny,  keeping plugging  away?

Hey Edgefan,  Thanks man, this seems to be the best answer I have had yet and it does seem

to make sence.  Thanks again.

Hey lone-woodwose,  Seems we both had a slight break down in our spelling. Too tired I think.

As for a batter case I don't like fish much, LOL.

Thanks to all those who answered my post.  Nice Joke Deadstring, and as for the word,
Fountaineaux, meaning Fountainblau, well Allan, that's what I thought, so I guss I'll just
go ahead and sing it the best I can. Thanks again for all who took the time to reply.

Hi ApeDoctor,

I have two Electro-Acoustic Guitars, One I have had for over a Year, and it shows no sign

of the battrey failing and I use it as much as any of my Guitars, but with six, it can be a

couple of months before I play it again, but as Nela said I always keep some spears.

Hope this helps!

Luck and Helth to all!!!

According to the dictionary it means,  IE. Thibay means Underfelt or carpet,

deaux means To stroll about,  and Fountaineaux  means  sprain.

Doesen't seem right does it.

selso, thanks but it actualy is  IE  Thibay-deaux Fountaineaux,  [ no TO inbetwen or at the start of the line ] but thanks anyway, to both of you.

Luck and Health to all!!

As most who know me, will know that I sing and play Old Style Country.  One of the songs I

play is Jambalaya by Hank Williams Sr.  Now I know we have members from Canada,

perhaps some of them are French Speaking or anyone for that matter who can speak French,

I would love to hear the Translation of the Line in the chorus of the song, that goes,

Thibay-deaux,  Fountaineaux.  What it means and how to pronounce it properly, I think I

know what Fountaineaux, means but I would like to be sure and to be able to sing the words

right when I proform the song.

Luck  and  Health to all!!!

Hey welcome2myhead, you must think that everyone that does not read music is stupid,
that makes you an Idot!
I can read music and have a good grounding in music theory, but I still have to play the Guitar, the theory and music won't play it for me.
I see that you are a member from 2006, and this is you second post, if you feel so strong,
about this where is your rebuttle of the posts you got mostly against you?
Also you say that all the songs you see have Tab, I find that hard to beleive, of the thousands of songs on Chordie most are done in chords.
The people on Chordie are a mixed bunch, but they will try and help when they can, but they will not stand by and let someone call them stupid. Another thing everyone is hear for different reasons, myself I am 63, and playing (the Guitar) about a year and a half, I doubt if I will ever play the Guitar as a profesion, but weither I play by Chords or Tab or Music, I don't care, the
reason I play is for the enjoyment I get from it. I played at my church on Christmas Eve,
Silent Night and Who's Child Is This, I'm not sure how anyyone thought about it but I felt Great.
Perhaps you should have a look at your manners?

Hi Zguitar,
I don't pretend to know all the struming patterns, but what I have found out is learn the tune

of the song you want to strum, and learn it well.  then play until you are getting the Chord

progression down right and smothly. then play the song many times, don;t try and conintrate

on the strum pattern, it will come in time.  Also if you end up strumming your own style that's

good, who says the strum pattern is set in stone.  I tend to play a lot of my songs and let my

right hand and arm go with the flow of the music, it works for me and it sounds like the song I

am learning, but not just repeating robot style, you can have your own style.

Hey guys thanks for the advice, but it seems I had nothing to worry about, I'm not new to  guitars I play Acoustic, and Electro-Acoustic, but I had said about how I was thinking of buying an Electric Guitar in the new year. Now I have bought all my stuff from the local music shop,
I bought a top of the range Electro-Acoustic and a Tennor Banjo, plus all my other needs, and
so I got to know the Guitar Tec at the shop. (Always a good move.)

It seems my daughters were taking more intrest in what I was saying than I thought.  They bought the guitar at the same shop and it was from a large order for Christmas. How ever they told the Tec guy who it was for and he did in fact set it up for me. I talked to him this morning and he told me the daughters came into the shop and asked for him, they discribed me and he knew who I was, this was at the start of November, so he left one aside and set it up in advance and tuned it at lest once a week. He said my daughters knew nothing about guitars and left the choice to him, still he said they told him it had to be a Strat typeand it had to be set up, for I was always talking about getting guitars set up by a Tec.

I have to say it's playing well, there is a slight buss from the 6th string now and then but he says as I tune it and the guitar settles down this will dissapear. So all's well that ends Well?
Still my daughter's think I'm mad since i'm 63 years young, Kids never understand ther parents, but it seems they listen.

But thanks for taking the time to answer my post. (From one happy old Guitar guy.)

Luck and Health to all!!!
