Things are bad around here. Lots of folks have had to abandon their homes due to the rains. The rain came so fast that no one had time to prepare for what happened. With Monroe / West Monroe being a "river city" and the river rising over 6' in a 24 hour perion is totally unheard of. So far we have been lucky in there has only been 3 deaths confirmed. It could have been much worse. The rain appears to have stopped this morning so we are getting a well deserved break. We have received right around 21 inches of rain since late Tuesday afternoon. Me and mine are high and dry and we are very thankful for that. I have a couple of "carpet blower" fans that I am carrying to some friends so they can begin to dry their house out, today. I imagine they will get well used before I get them back. Anyway, ya'll keep us in your prayers - we need them.

Rained all night. Still raining. Sick and tired of it. Supposed to play music tonight with friends but it may get canceled due to the rain.

Depending on which weather station you are listening to we have had between 19 1/2 and 20 1/2 inches of rain in the last 44 hours. And it's still raining with more predicted thru Sunday. We did get a little break today and everyone has their fingers crossed that the next weather system will not be as bad. BUT, it sure ain't purty around here. In our immediate area there is somewhere around 3000 families that have had to evacuate their homes. Many more with water damage to homes, vechiles and other items. Overnight the river and our local lakes rose 6+ feet, which is unheard, and this has many families stranded. The water came up so fast that there was no way to prepare for it. I expect it to take several more day's before we know the full extent of all that has happened. The only problems I've had, knock on wood, is we have a small roof leak in one of our bedrooms. This is caused by a rubber boot around a roof vent,. Have to wait to fix it after the rain stops but it is under control, for now. Our other issue is with our 60" screen tv. The picture is distorted and the color is way off. This one will cost us some money as we will, most likely, have to buy a new one. I know my issues are nothing compared to what other folks are going thru. I'm keeping them in my prayers and will extend all the help I can towards their needs.

As of 10:15pm tonight we have received another 10.81" of rain bringing the 2 day total to 16.42". Guess what? It's still raining! We may end up getting another 6 to 8" of rain overnight. The amount of rain we are getting is unheard of and they are predicting the rain to continue through the weekend. So far me and mine are high and dry but a lot of people have been flooded. Roads are closed as well as schools and business'.

We have had nearly 24 hours of rain, so far, and more is scheduled for the rest of the week. Per my rain gauge, here at my wife's house, we have gotten almost 6", overnight. Before this storm is over they are predicting us to get another 8 to 10 inches of rain. Flash flood warnings are in affect and our schools are closed.

Me n mine had a mess of crappie fillets, homemade hush puppies, fried taters, coleslaw and other fix'ns fer supper last night. Shore was good. Didn't go phishing this weekend as I did not want to fight the crowds. Got the boat ready to go Monday morning, though. Been tying up some crappie jigs, putting on new line, installing new updates on my depth finders and just getting things in order.

nela

Hee, hee, hee. I went phishing, yesterday. Caught me a whole bunch of crappies. Fishing about 18' deep along the channel edge using some homemade 1/16 oz hair jigs that I tyed. Culled down to what I thought was an even dozen but when I got home there were 13 in my livewell. The ones I kept were between 1 1/2 and 2 1/4 pounds each. Gonna have us some mighty good eating, tonight.

Welcome, Lou. The song is your basic I - IV - V progression and the right key would be the same as the person singing. In Johnny Cash's version it's G - C in the verse then goes to C - D - G in the chorus. In the other version you mentioned it's F - Bb - F in the verse, then C - Bb - F in the chorus. So, make it your own, determine your singing voice key and stay with a I - IV - V progression and you will be ok.

Ed, congrats on the camper. They can be great fun and open up all kinds of different adventures. Be sure to join up with some camper clubs and get the senior citizens discounts. When we had ours we would stay at campgrounds that had good shower / bathroom facilities so we could use them instead of the camper bathroom. They do get a little cramped. Also, invest in a small outside table and a couple of electric skillets as they will save a lotta time when it comes to cooking. If you are planning on doing some wintertime camping, go buy you a small electric heater. They will keep you warm and save you from using your propane (camping fees cover the electric). Get you a good pair of rubber gloves as you will need them when you go to clean your black water holding tank. Also have a separate water hose to do this work. After you have cleaned the tank and are ready to leave be sure to dump a bag of ice, through the toilet. into the tank. As you drive down the road the ice sloshing in the tank will break loose any solids you may not have got while cleaning. Camping is fun, hooking up to the truck, setting up at the campground, cleaning when leaving ans settint it back up when you get back home is work. Have fun.

Very sad news. Just the other day I was thinking about some of the "old" members we have not heard from lately and he was one of them. He was a true Chordian who always offered help, advice and humor with all his posts.

Nela

Yeah, Chordie is special, ain't it. 1st place I go with my coffee each morning. But I know what makes it special. It's the members. As a MOD we do have a few people who "STIR" the pot from time to time but ALL IN ALL this is site a pleasure to Moderate. If you take notice it seems as though there is a small group of "OLD TIME" members who are always posting on this site. When we have a new member join those OLD TIME members are the 1st to throw out the welcome mat. I belong to several other forums but this is the only one that gives out that "FAMILY" feeling to everyone.

While ya'll were talkin' 'bout going phishing I done slipped off and done it. Done real well on some slab crappies, today. They been being in the deep creek channels holding just off'n the ledges. Been catching them 18 to 20' deep on popcycle and critter glitter jigs. Since my health seems to getting better I'm going phishing more and more. My plans are to phish at least 3 days per week and if'n the wife will let me I'll phish the weekends. as well. Since I'm not doing any tournament phishing, anymore, I'm just enjoying myself and phishing where when and how I want too. Crappie and bass are spawning, now. Carp will start spawning next month (we don't phish for them) and the channel catfish will be robbing they're beds - that's when we load up on some good eatin'. Startin' in late may the blue gill will start they're spawn so I got me a whole lotta choices. I do need a good phishing partner, though. Who wants to go? The truck is hooked up to the boat as ya'll are a'reading this.

bluefly1, welcome to Chiordie. I'm sorry to say that I'm afraid you won't get much help with the LAP STEEL on this site. I love to hear someone play a lap steel who knows what they are doing. Got to play along side a couple who did. Would like to have the tike to see if I could learn to play one, myself.  Just because a lap steel is not mentioned here on Chordie, much, does not mean you can't have a good time visiting with us. Hang around awhile as we can treat you so many way's you gotta like some of them

Noticed that the Mods who oversee the individual sections are not listed. The Mods know which ones they look  after but the members do not.

Cold w/ rain, here. Got almost 2" yesterday. Today's low temps at 29 while tomorrows will be 25. Great phishing weather as it will put the crappie on the bottom in about 40' of water. Planning on phishing this weekend so if anyone wants to tag along just give me a call.

Well, the 1st thing I plan on doing is "calling in rich" to work. Oh wait, I'm retired - guess I'll have to run and hide until I can get things planned out and in order.

Last Wednesday I bought 4 tickets for $12.00 (includes powerplay) and won $12.00. I rolled that $12.00 over to Saturday's drawing and again won $12.00. So I'm gonna roll that over for tomorrow's drawing and hope the 3rd time is a charm.
