One thing that it makes you realise is how great a voice that some of these artists actually have ... they really do have a great range in their voice ... paul mcartney is one that springs to mind .. the songs seem simple - until you try to sing them etc...

check you tube ... copy his words add 3 chords ...take 3 strings off your guitar then try to add his unique flavor .... hard act to follow .

Everything going .. because its all for fun and enjoyment ... except anything to do with religion ... as an athiest to sing songs or even mention in praise of the Lord etc  seems stupid ... and I dont care what religion they are singing about... to be singing "heavymetal" and "Rock" or to suddenly "Rap" in the cause  of judism or christian or Hindu or muslim is totally ridiculous .... I can understand where blues came from in the same sound but different words ... but no religion whatsover ....

think it might be D ... but willing to be corrected - only saying this because I followed your link and the chord of D seemed to fit more than others ...

thanks a bunch.- A slide might not be a bad idea.
Lock.

this seems a good idea .. especialy if you think its a long term disabilty and you love playing guitar ... check out some open tunings ( you tube  for example) but you might have to also check which guitars are more suited than others  for slide work .

The little box with the top five is no problem on mine ... its hardly noticeable and causes no clash with anything at all . As for reading what seems to be just a small list of favourite songs by the people on here .... thats no problem either .

checked out YT ... and to be honest ... couldnt believe you had only been playing for 3 months and singing as well and it was picking notes and not just strumming  ... it would be great if you could add another to show your progression .

Well your half way there ... just got to convince him to give you the "useless strat that he dont need " ... looking forward to hearing your first recording of whatever ... especialy in that norfolk accent ... and thats me who lives in Devon and everyone thinks we talk and all sing pirate songs ..... ( though I did learn one the other day - "eddystone lighthouse " ...which me and my son just happened to get rescued by 4 years ago after a stupid fishing boat I bought conked out ) ... we live and learn ....

Russel says it one way ... I will attempt to say it another ... you been playing for 18 months and you actually ask that kind of question ? The fact you are asking that kind of question means that you are the kind of person who will benefit from learning it ... I wish I had all the resources available from the net as you young people do now ... it was so hard and time consuming learning from the odd one or two that you met to learn ... now its all here .. go for it .

I remember the same kind of feeling when tony blair took over our lot after years of sleaze with the previous government and we all thought It would be better ... that lasted about 2 years ... and if anything got worse but in a different way .... we are now in a serious depression with the same government but different leader that we never voted for ... tony blair is ok though ... doing his around the world stuff ... but the rest of us are losing our homes and are in more wars than before with our young lads coming home in bodybags every week ... some of whom went to my sons school and were friends with him .... hope things change ... but as an old git now ... I dont think so .

Also just re - read your post at the top ... 100 songs from memory and playing for only 7- 8 months ... I been strumming away and played in pub duos on and off for thirty years with different guys ( though the total playng time when added up will be about 3 years ) ... I can still only ever rememember 5 or 6 songs properly ... the rest I just fool around a few chords and a verse or two when we are having a few beers or a barbi etc ... it seems to pass the night ok and they still think I can play .... if they only knew the bluff ...lol...

Hope so ... sounds like we all got the positive side going ! it will be nice to hear a thing or two ... though I know how hard it can be ... for most of us we all want to do the same - but putting into practice is a different thing altogether .... remember its a hobby and enjoy and have fun  .

just checked out your stuff you play with ... some nice gear ... you must be ok to invest in all that lot .... wish I had that .

Sounds like its time to move on to stuff just a little more complicated and reading all the advice on here - they are dead right .... perhaps learning something like "tears in heaven" or something similar might be the way to go ( thats only one example )  ... but do it the correct way and not just strum it ... set yourself a challenge of learning one a week or fortnight . Loads of nice slow easy lessons for free out there . Pick a song you love and go for it . Good luck and enjoy .

Ach, I couldny resist it tongue

A whole ? isnt that a single thing ? just going back to my acid taking days in the 70s when things like this seemed relevant for an hour or two .. then for the rest of my life tried to convince myself I couldnt really have been that stupid ... but 40 years on ... I realised I was ...  nice at the time though  ! ... though I wouldnt want to spend my "whole " l life like it .. such a waste ... not being aware .

rules are made to be broken ... mother of invention ... if they all stuck by the rules it would be boring ... cant do it myself - wish I could ... but its there to be done by more clever adventrous people . you are allowed to do it.

I would also show him a couple of songs he recognises on you tube but done with accoustic guitar only and just as good etc... this way he wont feel that he needs to sound like a million dollar recording ... and can be good on just a guitar alone .

was only kidding ... I wouldnt have lost that opportunity either ... many times I have wished - even for 5 seconds -  to have put myself out to meet some of the greats .... and I dont get starstruck but to meet some of them and say hello and thanks would be great . I worked in the uk tv industry and met many many minor celebs and they dont count  ... but I know who the great ones are ... a couple I wish for is john lennon and paul mcartney ... plus a few others . wouldnt take more than 5 seconds ... is that sad or what ?

quote "Nobody was bothering him and we were able to talk one on one .... " unquote ... except for one while he is having a day at the aquarium with his son ...lol...

The problem you have is the same problem that even experienced players have on a lot of songs - so dont worry to much ... sometimes you got to make it up as you go along .

here is a version of a transposer ... make your own and print it out in a bigger size

c d e f g a b c
d e f g a b c d
e f g a b c d e
f g a b c d e f
g a b c d e f g
a b c d e f g a
b c d e f g a b
c d e f g a b c

look down the column on the left .. for instance look at c f and g - and you want to transpose to g    ... then go on the the column at the top which is g and whatever lines up in that same column downwards is the transposed one for you . if things are either a minor or sharp or whatever just allow for that as well . some flats or sharps names vary - but this a basic get you out of trouble one to keep handy etc ...

I think there is some good rap ... some very clever stuff ... and a lot of clones that jump on the market bandwagon ... quite a bit like any kind of music ... once someone finds a sound then its exploited by people - then it gets boring . But to dismiss it all as rubbish would be wrong . Got to agree with one of the ealier posters whose young son likes emenim .. I actually think the guy is really good and though dont usually like swearing in songs just for the sake of it , he seems to use the  words that convey his songs well ... and I am a 55 year old ...
