Re: Yamaha Pacifica 112V (4 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I've heard that the Yamaha Pacific is a great beginners guitar which is along the same lines of the Squire. You could put new upgraded pickups in the Squire and pretty much have a pure Fender. That way you will save money. Either way the Yamaha is a sideways step in quality IMO. If you want new altogether I'd go Fender if you want to stay with that type of guitar.

Welcome joan. It sounds to me that you would want an electric guitar to suit your musical tastes. As said by the others there isn't a best guitar because each of us have different tastes . The woods on a guitar do make a slight difference so you may want to research tone woods to get a better idea of what you may want. As for learning the ins and outs of playing the best place to start is with lessons and practice. Some of us have been playing our whole lifeand still know them all. Just be patient and have fun. Ask questions when in doubt and never give up when you feel as if you can't learn anymore.

What few campfire jams I've been part of we're very fun and educational for me. Its a good thing to sit in with more experienced pickers and learn while hearing good stories about past performances. Tie all of that in with good food and its some of the best fun you can have. I'd love to be able to come jam with any you guys.

Just relax, smile and have fun. Don't forget to mic check before the show and have a backup guitar in case you break strings. Knock em dead and let us know how it goes. Good on you for getting involved with community entertainment. Wishing you the best of luck.

Re: Electric strings (14 replies, posted in Electric)
EB slinky 10's will feel more bendy than regular 10's. If you play 11s and 12's on acoustic you will have a tuff time adjusting to electric 8's or 9's because of over fretting the notes out of tune. Plus you'll be looking at a complete setup for the guage change. It could be a good thing though if you're not too heavy handed.

Re: new strings (13 replies, posted in Electric)
The bass strings will sound dull and the high strings will be much quieter and altogether less vibrant. They will also leave black marks on your fingers from the crud and rust and feel less smooth. If you play regularly most uncoated strings will only be good for a couple weeks to a month according on the chemicals released from your hands.

Re: MY FINGERS HURT! (36 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I never had a problem with sore fingers. I was told to drip glue on them and let dry before I played. The callouses still grew but it was after the glue wore off and my fingers were already numb. I really have never met anyone that has played until their fingers bled.

Re: Pricing “sweet spot" : What is your comfort zone? (27 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
There are too many quality guitars priced under $500 for me to feel comfortable spending over that while my kids are still my dependents. My trusty Takamine eg334 was priced over that but I caught it on clearance. Hopefully upon house clearing of the kids that custom Martin will become reality for me.

Is it possible that the dimarzio pup was a mod by the original owner? Someone may have wanted a hotter bridge pup and swapped it out.

Re: Feedback problems (6 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Thanks for your reply, I'm playing a solid electric (handmade) so a soundhole cover isn't the solution. Could you explain more about an eq pedal please.
Well I'll give you my thoughts on the eq pedal since I don't actually use one. They are used to adjust the individual frequencies meaning that you can adjust the bass, miss or highs to a level that sounds better in the mix of what you are playing. You could be getting too much high frequency vibrations from your guitar that could lowered with the pedal and kill the feedback. Maybe a youtube search will give you a better idea. I hear alot of players use these pedals to tighten or loosen their tone.

Rosewood is a great wood for spruce tops but I've found mahogany to work better if it has a cedar top. The back and side woods need to balance out to get even tones across the body.

You know you're a musician when all you want to do is play your guitar even though you are laid up in bed with a bad leg. Happening to me now. Deadstring I used to have a few of those as a kid and lost them over the years. I use the zippy ones now.

Re: Monthly accountability message (20 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Zurf how many meals does your diet consist of? Most people that have a strenuous exercise routine eat up to 8 small meals a day in order to feel satisfied and to keep the metabolism going. Maybe you should just eat more healthy snacks throughout the day and that should keep you energized for more arobic fat burning. Keep it going and don't give up and you'll see your goals in no time. Good luck.
