Re: fiddle (5 replies, posted in Other string instruments)
Is there a music store near where you live where you can call and see if anyone there gives lessons? Fiddle isn't easy to play and really isn't an instrument that you can teach yourself.

Solely acoustic, but just because I can't afford an electric lol, I'm a poor college kid
Ditto! Only I'm a poor high school kid. I'd play both if I could though.

I was working on Hey There Delilah. I find it really difficult to play the bar chords and fingerpick at the same time.

Re: Cool Picks (2 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
My dad has a cool pick with a palm tree on it. I also took a plain black pick and put sparkly silver glitter glue on it. That one is probably my favorite, but it has a crack in it because I tried to poke a hole in it to make it into a necklace. I also just bough these really cool ones that look like confetti.

Re: Pfft, all the cool people play VIOLIN! (20 replies, posted in Other string instruments)
Hello luniepoo - all the really really cool people play fiddle! Fiddlers can jam and add an exciting 'zing' to a combo. Violinists, on the other hand, definately do not jam - they are strictly 'paper-trained' and are frozen with fear if they don't have pages of notes in front of them.
I quite agree. I play both violin and fiddle, and most of the time fiddle is more fun.
Of course playing electric violin is also fun. I play my electric on the worship team at my church and people love it.
To answer your question, luniepoo, I've been playing 8 years.
I also took cello lessons for a little over a year, but it was too much like violin so it was kinda boring.

It will improve your strumming by helping you keep the beat steady, but as far as actually strumming, no. That's something you just have to work at.

Re: chords and melody (3 replies, posted in Songwriting)
I'm not really a theory expert or anything, but when I have a melody and want to find the chords I play the first few notes of the melody on the piano, and then play a chord that has similar notes in it. The melody will only sound good if most of the notes are the same notes in the chord. Hope that helped!

Re: Stagg (5 replies, posted in Electric)
I have a stagg electric violin that works pretty good. It's not the best electric violin out there, but it's really good for what we paid for it. I did drop it once though, and one of the pegs broke as well as a wire under the pick up. I didn't drop it that far, so I guess my impression was it broke really easy. Anyway, I like it.
