can't imagine spending 24 hours on a plane! I'd arrive more dead than alive...

You're right there Norm. I have flown NZ to UK back in 2004 and it was 34 hours including stopovers and hanging around airports. I won't do it again, too hard on the old body, and too expensive!

I know of two other chordians in NZ (Easybeat and rotoiti, who appear in the forum now and then), and Bushy in Oz, we almost have a crowd!

Sounds wonderful, would love to be there in Crete. But down in in NZ on the bum of the world we are a wee bit far away! Maybe we should get one going for Australia and NZ?

I have the same problem. XP has been a good stable system, which is why I havent upgraded till now. Dont really want to spend money on a new computer or software but seems unavoidable. My old PC wont drive Windows 8.

I guess I am like a lot of others who visit just about everyday to see what's being talked about, but generally don't post unless i feel can say something useful or interesting. And yes, GUILTY!, Facebook does take up more time, as i have adult kids overseas and and we communicate each day through FB. But Chordie is still a vital interest for me, I love all the little pearls of wisdom, and online banter between the hard core members!

I tend to be a "music first, then find a song to go with it" guy, rather than right a poem/song first, and put music to it. Critiquing music is a very subjective thing, and so are suggested improvements. If you write poetry or songs just for yourself, then it don't matter a monkeys a**e what other people think. But if you want to perform or sell music to others, then it becomes very important. As long as criticism is intended to be honest and objective, and is taken by the composer in the same way, then everyone benefits. I guess it you don't want other's opinions on your work, don't put it on here!

Wrote some great all-time classics, great guitar singalong numbers.

A poignant quote from Pete in 2006:

“I’ve often thought, standing onstage with 1,000 people in front of me, that somebody over on my right had a great-great grandfather who was trying to kill the great-great grandfather of somebody off to my left. And here we are all singing together. And wouldn’t it surprise all those great-grandfathers if they could see their great-grandchildren singing together? They’d probably say, ‘Why did we fight so hard?’ Good question!
We all go to different churches or no churches, we have different favorite foods, different ways of making love, different ways of doing all sorts of things, but there we’re all singing together. Gives you hope.”

Totally agree... Chordie proves that!

I too have just been made redundant from my job, in the insurance industry, Disestablished is the corporate jargon. i could have held on to it if i was prepared to move to a larger city, but why would i at 58 and have all my family and friends here, and a reasonable number of good trout rivers nearby!. Will just have to get Mrs TT to increase her hours to keep me in the lifestyle i am accustomed to LOL

Colours - by Donovan. around 1976, on an Angelica guitar, a brand that i have never heard of since

I've been playing for about 40 years and have probably plateau'd several times, even stopped altogether during some difficult periods. i think watching other peoples techniques and practising as much as you can, and above all keep it fun, because music should always be enjoyable, never a chore. Never take it too seriously.

I'm with Zurf on this one. Playing the fly rod is for me almost as joyful as playing the guitar!

Brilliant!
