I sing the lyrics of Pinball Wizard over the tune to Folsom Prison Blues.. It helps to add the Johnny Cash twang as well..

Ditto Guitarpix. Any cigar store will sell you an empty box for $3 to $7. A piezo pick up from radio shack will set you back $1.15 and a 1/4" phone jack is all you need. Directions on what to do with that piezo pickup can be found at cigarboxnation.com for free.

A good rule of thumb is if a word is not fit to use in the presence of the first lady of your country then it is not fit for Chordie.
Roger
So what are you saying Roger? Anything goes?

Tommy,
I retired from the Army and I can play the F chord about 4 or 5 different ways. I ain't scared.. you shouldn't be either. It's just another chord, just like all the others. Keep plugging at it, you'll get there..

I think almost any hit song by Pink Floyd would do the trick.
Whoa! I was thinking more like "Shaft, can you dig it?" I have an unreasonable respect for Pink Floyd, and that may be my problem, but I've always thought of their music as well thought out and intelligent. Musically, I also find it to be fairly complex. But I might be a simpleton in this regard.

Re: 6 string banjo (11 replies, posted in Other string instruments)
Oy! The six string banjo is just a guitar with a drum head attached. The banjo is traditionally played in open G or open D tuning but there are many other tunings available, just like the guitar. If I were to learn the banjo, I'd want to learn it in what might be considered the standard way of playing it. Just my opinion though..

Re: Instruments you wish you could play (45 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I started my life as a bass player, Currently, I play guitar, dobro (in E and G tuning) and some mandolin.. I really wish I played mandolin better. Yeah, I know, practice, practice, practice...I have a very brief introduction to banjo but I wish I knew more of that. I wish I could play slide in standard tuning on guitar.. That seems really hard to me for some reason. I don't have a dulcimer but I want one and I want to be able to play it. The point is.. Just in the world of fretted stringed instruments, there are so many options that the choices are almost staggering. Lately, I've developed a fascination for more primitive stringed instruments. I'm playing cigar box guitars now. These are 3 or 4 stringed instruments that are tuned in open tuning and played in any number of ways. The cool thing about these is the lessons that one can learn when limited to 3 or 4 strings but still want to play whole songs. These are fascinating instruments that form the core of modern rock and blues and really need to be explored further.

Re: Guitar love: Is it wrong? (21 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Dear Penthouse forums,
I have a relationship with a Strat that goes back to 1986. She makes me buy her new pickups and pickguards every 10 years or so. She makes me feel sleezy but she feels so good when I hold her..
Really though, some things in our lives make deep impressions. Some of these relationships with inanimate objects seem silly to some people, but those of us that had these types of relationships have, in some small way, learned something from them. Or its the tequila again.. In any case, its less dangerous than some of things you could get involved with. Just don't try to marry your guitar.. That's only legal in Oregon and New Hampshire.

Great opportunities always come with great risk.. I used to lose drummers at the last minute all the time. Then I stopped using them entirely. If you can't find a sub, just play what you know in the order that you want to do them.. Play the requests you know and don't try to fake the ones you don't and you'll be fine. Really... Have fun with it and invite all your friends to support you.

I'm not into the "showroom new" look either. That nickel is gonna get dull where ever you touch it. I've got spots on mine that Never-Dull won't touch. I haven't tried the brasso but I'm sure that would take care of it.. I like the "played in" look. Besides, it doesn't affect the sound at all. Maybe if I owned something like a White Falcon, I'd want to keep it looking new. But I consider the wear on my guitars as a badge of honor. Maybe that's silly but that's just me.
