You probably not going to find a sweeter player than a Telecaster. It's just 1 comfortable guitar.

If it keeps me safe then I'm OK with it. Besides, with the shape I'm in, they'd look once. It'd be way worse for them than for me!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always do that. Who cares what the headstock says. Like Russell, I think the Stratocaster is the most enjoyable to play (and the most versatile with respect to sound) but I've got a Frankenstein copy that feels better than most of the Fender's I've played. I think there are many fine brands out there. I've got an Agile LP copy that I'd put up against a new Gibson anytime (or Epiphone). Like Russell says, we all like what we like. Oh...let's that forget how nice a Telecaster is to play!!!!!

Just bought a Chinese Dot Studio...too cheap to pass up and I noticed the pups are muddy as hell. I may just try to swap them out.

Martin Sexton "Black Sheep"

I have been a Martin for a decade. He is a fantastic artist who stays true to his craft. I've seen in him in small and large venues, he is phenomal live and in the studio. His voice is as fine as any in any genre. Please check out his earlier stuff to get a good vibe. His album "Black Sheep" is my favorite and led to a record deal with Atlantic (who he's no longer with). He's back on an independent label and records in Western Mass and upstate NY. He's a very good player but what distinguishes him from the pack is his voice; his voice is truly amazing.

His sister Colleen is no slouch either!

Wow...Wow...Wow...

I like to do a similar thing with hearing the effects but arrived there in a different way. My set up is very effective and not too pricey. I use a Line6 Pocket Pod for effects and a set of Alesis M1Active 320 USB speakers. The speakers have multiple inputs so you can feed both the "amp out" jack as well as the pc sound into them at the same time (this could serve as your makeshift amp as well and they are kick ass PC speakers for all applications). The Alesis speakers also have a front head phone jack (as does the pocket pod). So if you're using a mic you can plug in the head phones at the speakers. They each retail for about 100 US. I also use a Tascam interface but it just for finer control of the inputs and you could get by without it.

I hope this helps.

Anyone on Line6's email distribution list should get an invitation. Email me and I'll forward the email I just received. I just bought Mixcraft a few months back. I'm not interested in switching just yet.

Come across this on a message board recently.

Ireland Declares War On France?

Jacques Chirac, the French President, is sitting in his office when his telephone rings.

"Hallo, Mr. Chirac!" a heavily accented voice said. "This is Paddy down at the Harp Pub in County Clare, Ireland. I am ringing to inform you that we are officially declaring war on you!"

"Well, Paddy," Chirac replied, "Theez eez indeed important news! How big is your army?"

"Right now," says Paddy, after a moment's calculation, "there's meself, me cousin Sean, me next-door neighbor Seamus, and the entire darts team from the pub. That makes eight!"

Chirac paused. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 100,000 men in my army waiting to move on my command."
"Begorrah!" says Paddy. "I'll have to ring you back."

Sure enough, the next day, Paddy calls again. "Mr. Chirac, the war is still on. We have managed to get us some infantry equipment!"

"And what equipment would zat be, Paddy?" asks Chirac.
"Well, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Murphy's farm tractor."

Chirac sighs, amused. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 6,000 tanks and 5,000 armored personnel carriers. Also, I have increased my army to 150,000 since we last spoke."

"Saints preserve us!" exclaims Paddy. "I'll have to get back to you."

Sure enough, Paddy rings again the next day. "Mr. Chirac, the war is still on! We have managed to get ourselves airborne! We have modified Jackie McLaughlin's ultra-light with a couple of shotguns in the cockpit, and four boys from the Shamrock Bar have joined us as well!"

Chirac was silent for a minute and then cleared his throat. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 100 bombers and 200 fighter planes. My military bases are surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And since we last spoke, I have increased my army to 200,000!"

"Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!" says Paddy, "I will have to ring you back."

Sure enough, Paddy calls again the next day. "Top o' the mornin', Mr.Chirac! I am sorry to inform you that we have had to call off the war."

"Really? I am sorry to hear that," says Chirac. "Why the sudden change of heart?"

"Well," says Paddy, "we had a long chat over a few pints of Guinness, and decided there is no fookin' way we can feed 200,000 prisoners".

It's a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm digging my Line 6 Pocket Pod. USB connectivity, downloadable tones, user created tones, battery powered (although not for long), LCD screen all for around $100 US. Line 6 gets some bad press but I love the pod. Big fun short money. It may not sound good enough for the purists but those folks are never happy. If you want to sound exactly like a vintage Fender tube amp...then go buy one otherwise buy a Pod product. There's even a cheaper one now (Pod Express maybe?). I have heard good things about Digitech as well.

Agreed. I accidentally found a bunch of George Michael's "Careless Whisper" acoustic covers that were really good on youtube. I really dislike George Michael but the covers were really good. Check them out

Cool. How do we coordinate the emailing of addresses??? Should they all go to Topdown or what? Should the next person just send it to the person after them on this post

My thought was the person who receives the package would make a post to this thread and request emails to themselves.

i.e. - The package is on the way to Pix - When he gets it, he would post along the lines of "package received - first email (or 3rd or 5th or whatever gets the package). The emails would go to him.

I'll keep the google map updated if the username, town, state, country info is posted here.

Excellent idea. Sounds like a plan

How about "End" for the title. Simple and sweet.

I guess it depends what you're comfortable on. I use a guitar but I guess if I were a decent keyboardist I'd probably gravitate towards that. I'm not sure about in the head thing though.....doesn't work that way for anyone I know but I'm not privy to hanging out with prodigies either!!!

I think a good Chorus is important (as it usually played at least 2x's) and for me is usually what makes me remember the tune. I do agree with Zurf's storytelling in Folk though. There is nothing better than a good story from Cash, Kristofferson, Prine, etc. The story they tell is usually at least as memorable as anything musically they do. Amazing how they can turn a simple chord progression into a classic with a story.

Zurf - Ever tried playing B barring the 7th fret and playing E shape on 8th and 9th?  I do this when playing all barre chords and occasionally to add a different octave when playing mostly open chords.

I've done it and sometimes it works great but sometimes that octave is just too high. I find my self rearranging everything 1 octave up to compensate for the B. That can get goofy too. I'm concerned where it'll lead, 1st I'll only play the cutaway...eventually I wake up a heavy metal guy with leather pants and underwear.....scary

Perhaps i should just practice the B
