Thanks a lot for the positive critic on my English.
One of the most important facts that if you compare my first topics versus the topics now, there you will find a huge difference.
Since chordie I learned so much of "Shakespeare's" language. I learned
1) maybe thousand words, I translate them to know what they mean. Also am I a fast learner
2) I always loved English
3) I don't translate from Dutch into English
4) I learned a lot about phrases (to write them more correct)
5) During my US trips, I can "mimic" even dialects, and I was asked a few times from which state I was.
A funny thing: in MISSOURI the northern accent changes into a southern accent.
I HAVE TO THANK ALL OF YOU for improving my "linguistic" skills

1) Dear friends, I am as told before, a non English speaking man, but I try hard to make poetry even not being a poet. There are so many great poems written here, so I love to give you a subject, in which you can find reality, joy, sadness.
2) It makes me feel happy to see that this section is becoming far more popular than I thought.
I try to read them all, and now and then I love to suggest a poem like the "who am I" poem.
I really am happy, a lot of us write about love, pain, personal things, but also about other things.
So here again a thread where you can describe yourselves, your life.

I was born in fact squeezed out my mum's belly
the first thing I heard was a song of Leadbelly
I was naked and so I heard them saying it's a boy
Why and how they saw it I still don't know, was it a decoy?

A few days later I was home, a priest and people I didn't know
they made me wet and I was scared, was this a decoy?
Once back home they start to throw and grabbed me back as a big jo-jo
Speaking a language, very weird and sounding as di da do

Next stop was in kindergarten, in a local school
Hey, I was a smart kid and they made me look like fool
we all got a stool, a tool and yes that was pretty cool
making drawings and objects fingerpainting and going to the pool

at the age of 6 we all moved up to a bigger place and oh so great
there were a lot of us, in groups, and rooms and a new classmate
we learned to read, to write and using numbers, purpose was to graduate
as time passed by 50 little eyes looking at a clock and then of course the gate

Again, at twelve we changed again to a new school it looked all so big
it was a culture shock all new teachers and priests, one looked like a pig
I learned about the ancients, the Greeks, the Romans and every year a gig
Six years long, an eternity, thinking I knew everything but feeling as a twig

Now there was a crossroad, should I leave or should I go
The choice was difficult it was at least 35 years ago
become a priest, not for me, too many sins and a real macho
Why not going to become a doc, just like my dad, we both loved staus quo

So the university or is it college, I never understood
I started to study harder than a person should
But soon there were a lot of events, for a student like me, no good
Too many bars, booze and a lot of sisters from the hood

I had one purpose I promised my parents to succeed
So blessed with a good memory and pretty women they agreed
you're old enough my son, if there is something that you want or need
please call us, inform us and talk and nobody is worried

Finally I am just a simple man who used to be a doc
I started early finished late, a race against the clock
one things for sure I wasn't part of a big, big flock
I ended up, a car, a tree and all I do today is rock

Pix, I believe we had an identical topic in the past.
BUT TRY TO FIND IT BACK, so I believe it is a good one.
- favorite artist to cover
- favorite song to cover
Last but not least = the SAMPLES
TRIBUTE BANDS: I FOUND A REAL GREAT BAND NAMED BEATALLICA, performing Beatles songs in METALLICA style, such as "Hey Dude" see youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz1PtyYC … re=related
I'll try to look and bringing you the answers right here.
1) I believe that "the classic masters" mile Vivaldi, with his "4 seasons" is covered by thousand orchestra's.
2) Bach, Beethoven........

About "covers" there is a second very important phenomenon, tribute songs.
One of the saddest cases is the song "without you." Who remembers the phenomenal cover version by Harry Nilsson, and Mariah Carey. Even now at least 75% believe this song was written by Nilsson. KNOW YOUR MUSIC HISTORY and you will find that this song is written by BADFINGER. Badfinger's recording of the song, which is more brusque than its successors' versions, languished as an obscure album track, I believe it was the last track. Until noticed by Harry Nilsson who was a close friend of John Lennon, and with Badfinger on the same label: APPLE. You want a list? Here is a real good list.
1. Yesterday, the Beatles. It has been covered more than 3,000 times
2. Eleanor Rigby, The Beatles: a surprising choice, I think, but it’s been covered 131 times
3. Cry Me a River, Julie London. BEST COVER = JOE COCKER.
4. And I Love Her, the Beatles.
5. (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, The Rolling Stones.
6. Imagine, John Lennon.
7. Summertime, Abbie Mitchell.
8. Black Birdd by The Beatles
9. Over the Rainbow, Judy Garland. Rgis song seems to be one of the most used songs in AMERICAN IDOL.
10. The Look of Love, Dusty Springfield. Written by Burt Bacharach
This is a very good thread and we can argue a lot about the accuracy. It seems obvious that the most covered artist are the Beatles. But WHO'S NEXT? Summertime by GEORGE GERSHWIN, and LOUIE, LOUIE.

I am referring to 2 magical tools, both made by Korg, named PANDORA.
1) Pandora PX4D
2) Pandora PX5D

The purpose was to sell the PX4D, and buying the PX5D.
But after using them both, I decided to keep the 2 devices.
It is unbelievable what you can accomplish with these two items.
Since I play alone, I had problems with my rhythm, and also licks and riffs + the fact that there are so many different rhythms and effects, and fitting in your coat pocket, I wouldn't sell ,no longer the PX4D.
The last 6 months my rhythm has improved a lot, and now I am able to say that I am a much better guitar playze.
I learned more on 6 months than I learned the last 30 years.
ARE THERE OTHER PANDORA ADDICTS HERE?

FINALLY the acoustic PRS is on the market.
To see the models and hear the sound you need to go to www.prsguitars.com.
There are 2 models, and as far as the PC reproduces the sound, well, I admit FABULOUS.
PRS has always given us great, but very expensive electric guitars, so he used the dame high standard for the acoustics:
- the TONARE GRANDE: not a real dreadnought, but more orchestra model
- the ANGELUS: a beauty with a cutaway.

Options: pick-up system
Concerning the material used, the construction, it will be an expensive guitar.
Before I die, this is the guitar of my dreams.
FOR ONE OF THESE: I WILL SAVE SOME MONEY, it is my goal to get one of these guitars.

WHAT ABOUT YOU PRS FANS ON CHORDIE? Just listen and judge, they have an unique sound.

HAHA, I didn't lost my ideas. It is like a flash
ALANSHEERAN my friend, what is NATIONAL here are "FRENCH FRIES", the thing I love, but they are destroying a big part of our culture, is or should I say was the kind of cravans or trailers where you can stand outside and eat those fries in a bag in a cone shape.
More and more those people need to have a "primitive" restaurant, why? I don't really know.
But mussels and steak are the most important things. You should see the restaurants whenn the season starts, they all or most of them (the mussels) come from the Netherlands  and I believe  80% is exported to Belgium.

Since we have so many members and probably from different countries (AM I WRONG TO SUGGEST THAT 75% ARE US CITIZENS?) I really would love to see what you write about your country.
I would really love to read it, so PLEASE, COOPERATE, it isn't difficult.

I was born, raised and studied in Belgium long ago
There was no choice, my mother told me so.
It's here I learned to play guitar, starting in do
There are a lot of countries where I would go.

Our national dish is a steak with french fries
why did they call it french? It started here, no lies
in a lot of countries they only eat a lot of rice
a combination with dog meat and a fistful mice.

We have a lot of rain, the grass is green and taxes high
the more we work the more they take, and I don't know why
we have beautiful old cities here, centuries old a pleasure for the eye
great places to eat, "haute cuisine" tasty and exceptional, I can't denie

these old towns so magnificent as they were painted in a blue, blue sky
Belgium is only 35.500km², not so big and tourists passing by
if you come to here, go and see some cities, don't be shy
surf around, you'll see I'm right, take a plane to here and fly

THIS IS WHAT I MEAN, DESCRIBE YOUR COUNTRY OR STATE, LIKE I DID

Dear Phil
When I was asked it hit me, I was so pleased.
Sometimes I wrote bad things, not belonging here, but I had the best mentor and friend, who else than Roger Guppy.
As a non US citizen, it is sometimes very, very difficult. Why: I think it is a kind of "culture clash"
It is really difficult sometimes, common words here can be "banned words" in a way of speaking.
I am a chordian in flesh and blood and I try to make the best of it.
I read more today what others write than what I write. IMAGINE THIS: when I became a member there were 60.000 members, in 2007, and now 4x more.
I am almost sure that this is the most complete site about music on the entire internet.

A lot of people seem to change their name using a stage name.
Upyerkilt told me an example (which I knew already) that a guy named DAVID JONES changed his name in DAVID BOWIE.
Changing a name in an artist name, are this names "officially" recognized by the authorities, meaning that Robert Zimmerman = BOB DYLAN, and resulting in his offspring like JAKOB DYLAN?
Or do they use their names only on stage, and not officially recognized by the authorities?
BUT WHO ELSE DID SO?
1) WHAT ABOUT THESE NAMES are they official changed, or still STAGE NAMES?
- REGINALD DWIGHT became ELTON JOHN.
- DECLAN PATRICK McMANUS became ELVIS COSTELLO
- ROBERT ZIMMERMAN became BOB DYLAN
- RICHARD STARKEY became RINGO STARR
2) WHAT ABOUT THESE NAMES? It's really obvious that these are STAGE NAMES.
- PAUL HEWSON became BONO VOX (= good voice), but now BONO.
- GORDON SUMMER became STING
INCLUDING ACTOR'S NAMES:
- Ramón Gerardo Antonio Estévez became MARTIN SHEEN, and both his suns have different names
- CHARLIE SHEEN adopted his father's stage name SHEEN while his brother kept his father original name ESTEVEZ (Emilio Estevez) which brings me back to OFFICIALLY CHANGED NAMES and STAGE NAMES.
See also KIRK DOUGLAS, his children are all named DOUGLAS too, so did they had to change it legally, or was papa KIRK born as Issur Danielovitch, name change in KIRK DOUGLAS enough?

Hey Ken, are you telling here that there is a guy who's name is ED ZEP?
If yes, what a coincidence, I just "invented" that name as example.

A WELCOME ON BOARD POEM

Dear friend and chordian Williams Phil
you are doomed to work with me gitaardocphil.
I hope you are strong enough without taking a pill
If not, I have no problem to send you a bill

This is a poem made by me for you
a little bit or even more unusual to do
I am sure you'll be my good friend too
If you don't agree, put me with the monkeys in the zoo.

And now it is your turn to write a poem about me
I am an open book, even today you'll see
Why don't we start to see a concert of AC/DC
Or do you prefer "me and Bobby McGee

Dear Phil, welcome as a friend here and congrats with your promotion.
It is a nice, lovely job.
I write less since a few months but I read more what other people write.
Gitaardocphil aka THE ROCKDOC.

Thanks Craig, but don't you think there is sometimes a real confusion if you have 2 artists with almost the same name?
COMPARE IT WITH 2 BANDS: ONE CALLED
1) LED ZEPPELIN and the other
2) ED ZEPPELIN

singing loud Peter Green's OH Well
Be prudent, when it falls you can break your leg

but what's the use to be a veganist

HEY PHIL a ZEPPELIN FAN? ME TOO.
What do you think? Will they start playing again with Jason BONHAM? Yes the son of the late, great John "BONZO" Bonham.

It isn't an easy one, why? We hve to think, but on the other hand some more.
I saw Harrison Ford driving a Ford
Mel Gibson playing a Les Paul Gibson
Axl' Rose was giving a rose to Johnny Cash
He had no cash so he asked Johnny Paycheck
If he could leave the building with Elvis
Richard Gere was also here
and Roger Waters drunk too much waters
resulting in a lot of smoke on the water
Bill Gates couldn't open his many gates
and Jimmy Buffett, well he was eating a buffett
Did you see the wife of Stevie Wonder?
No problem, he didn't see her too (oops!)

Is there anyone who is familiar with this program?
Here is a link.
My opinion, funny, you have a kind of toolbar with a lot of chords, like E, C or Am, A7, A° A# and too much to mention.
What is the funny part? You just click on a chord you want, and you get the notes underneath the chord.
Then push play, and the result is amazing. You can do a lot, and it is as if you are a big song writer

WHO KNOWS THAT PROGRAM, it costs 39$ but before I spend it, I really love to hear your opinion.

There has to be sometimes confusion talking about BRYAN ADAMS and RYAN ADAMS.
I know at least 2 persons who bought a CD of BRYAN ADAMS, to see later when they play the CD that it is RYAN ADAMS.
To be honest I really don't know much about RYAN ADAMS, what kind of music does he play, and is he popular in the USA?
addendum: I just saw him playing on youtube and guess what, the guitar player plays A DUESENBERG TV OUTLAW, more and more great artists seem to play on that incredible good guitar. NO SPAM, I AM NOT A GUITAR STORE, I simply find those guitars INCREDIBLE.
There is 1 thing I don't understand: the USA price is 50% higher than the European, WHY?

THE RAP CRAP

Hey Jo, yeah Jo, how is your mojo
Hey Jo, my brother in law’s name is Jo
He married my sister, just took her and go
He Jo, yeah Jo, treat her well and so

The brothers from the hood
They all walk, using a foot
I’m sitting here, and I don’t feel good
The rap crab lobster has no blood

So, Jo, yeah Jo, I’ll come and get you soon
I will wait to come after the monsoon
Hey Jo, yeah Jo, I’ll come with my platoon
Fight like a brother and use your harpoon

His name is indeed Jo, so imagine a rap rhythm

The phrase written by Southpaw: " Hush little baby don't you cry, 'cause cryin' is for sissys...."
I mean the first part isn't it a part of the Pink Floyd song "MOTHER"?
I adore these stories.

Before I write something I think we had already a thread about busking, but long ago.
Since we have so many active or registered members, I wanted to talk again about busking.
I went to PRAGUE in August, unfortunately the weather wasn't good, but I met a Canadian guy who had done a lot of jobs to survive, and he was a damned good player, with a fix job as guitar player in a big and popular restaurant there. He played 5-6 hours a day, at noon, and in the evening, not IN the restaurant but outside the restaurant.
He was a gifted and skilled player, but because of that very rainy day, they phoned him that he didn't had to play as said because of the rain.
Why scary and courage? Because 2 yeras ago, I was walking on the famous "ramblas" in Barcelona
There was a group of people from England, age 45-50 years old behaving themselves worse than naughty kids. They asked him to play, he was a "rookie", but he really tried to do the best he could, he played 4 songs, the group was really laughing, they gave him nothing. Yes, my friend and me 2 tables from the UK group, we gave him 10€.
IS THIS PART OF THE BUSKING WORLD?
I think you need an "elephant skin" to play on the street, and listen to the "dirty and the blasphemous" comments.
In DUBLIN, january 2009, I saw a guy, playing really good, but on 10 people, 3 listened and 7 passed by, but he received quit a lot from 80% of the people passing by.
SO, CAN YOU MAKE A LIVING BY BUSKING (he told me he could live fair enough, and with the accent on his passion, that he was really happy.)
Three different stories, so my question is how many of you have played guitar on the street, so
- the problems, like the law, the place you play?
- can a good guitar player live with the money he gets?
- can you handle the critics and comments given by stupid people?

Of course there are many ways to learn guitar:
- following guitar lessons is probably the most interesting way.
- teaching yourself to play guitar
- start playing in a band
- and for the others, (in my case being disabled) I learned more during the last 6 months than the 30 years before. HOW? Easy answer, by buying a device like korg pandora PX4D & PX5D, where you plug your guitar in the input and a set of earphones in the output.
There are 200 different possibilities and VERY IMPORTANT, a rhythm  section on board.
I was convinced that I was a "better" player, after 30 years, but following rhythm, was the least of my problem.
So for the "lonesome guitar player" it is necessary to use at least a metronome, or a device wich provides rhythm.
Who is thinking similar  here?

474

(13 replies, posted in Electric)

I had an opposite experience.
I bought a Martin D-45V at Gruhn's guitar store.
Here in Belgium, in my regular store, they offered me 5000$ + 75% = 7500$.
Probably most stores don't have this guitar in stock because the "major league"guitars are no sold every week, or months. They had a customer who ordered there a 45V, I didn't sell because it is my best guitar (with the Gibson SJ-200 Montana Gold, and my hummingbird).
A DILEMMA:
I have an original USA Fender stratocaster from 1964.
I have also that book about prices for guitars. What is the value of these guitars?
In 2006: 10.000$
In 2007: 15.000$
In 2008: 20.000$
In 2009: between 25.000 - 27.000$
I had the luck to buy this from someone who needed money and me, working back then as medical doc 80 hours a week, was anle to buy the strat from 1964 and as extra bonus I got a Gibson Les Paul Custom and also from 1968 the first year they started to make them again and so I paid 5000$ for both guitars. It is a lot of money, indeed, but working so hard + the amount of money I received for my car crash, I believe I did a great business, having now 2 guitars worth a fortune today.
I am thinking a lot to sell that strat, but on the other hand, looking to the price every year, I prefer to keep this guitar, even knowing that she is in good hands now (my daughter).
WOULD YOU SELL THE STRATOCASTER 1964?

You can make different categories like:
1) ballad
2) hard rock
3) blues
4) R&B
and also the lyrics, production, arrangements.
I have 2 songs
1) IMAGINE by JOHN LENNON (I feel that song even after hearing it so many times, in my heart)
2) BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY by QUEEN: impossible to believe that such a song was composed and recorded in the 70ties. That song has it all: ballad, hard rock, harmony, arrangements.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION?
