Welcome aboard, Colin. I think you'll find this place a good place to be. There are loads of helpful folks on here willing to share knowlege and stories. Pull up a stool and make yourself at home. Just make sure your shorts fit correctly. lol

Now that's just plain old burst a gut, laugh out loud, funny. That's the last two posts I've read have had me guffawing, with the result of my wife wanting to know what I'm up to. Ach, she wouldny understand. cool

Now that's an interesting 1st post!

You may want to tone down the imagery though, some folk take offense a lot easier than I do.

But, man, you got me laughing out loud.

Heather,

What would I do without you?

wlbaye,

I find it really hard to sing a lot of songs in G. I tend to capo at the 3d or 4th fret, or even 5th, and get on a lot better. On the 4th or 5th you get a really nice folky sound, which suits a lot of the songs I like to sing.

I love my capo >blush<

I love to get the house to myself so I can give it laldy without upsetting the rest of the family. I love singing away while I'm playing. I don't do any performing but I do like a sing song with friends and family, in which case everybody tends to sing along with me. Which is great; it hides my dulcet tones.

I also like to record myself now and then so that I can hear what needs attention. Whether it's my singing or my playing. I also like to video myself occasionally because it forces me to really learn a song.

I'm sure the subject of a singers section has been brought up before but I can't remember what thoughts were put forward. I can only assume that it was thought that Chordie is primarily a guitar or stringed instrument site and singing as such was deemed to be outwith the remit.

I could also be talking utter cods.

Hee hee. As if I can talk. My team also plays in the black and white. And have been continually fighting off relegation since finally getting back to the SPL a few years ago. C'mon The Saints! (St Mirren FC)

I hope Shearer can turn it round for you.

Have you ever been at a pro game and they have the kids out playing a short game or showing off at half time? The skill some of these kids show is amazing. Then they sign up for a professional club and they batter all the skill, tricks and enthusiasm out of them.

Yeah! Lessons learned. I now get talked into a few songs on a regular basis. I'm even starting to remember a couple. The longest I played at one party was about 3 hours. The more alchohol consumed the greater the need for singing. I'm kinda trying to get it together for my sister's 40th birthday in August. There WILL be A LOT of singing!!!! Could be a noisey night, my brother plays the bagpipes lol

Yeah, they need all the help they can get.

Sorry. tongue

I always pack some cheat sheets in my guitar case now. Saves you making a complete hind end of yourself.

The thing is.... now that one person now knows you play and sing and has heard you play and sing, you can count on it that at least a few more will have heard about it by now. So even if the guitar is hidden away, when you have friends round again it WILL be mentioned. Especially after a few drinks. I rarely get away with leaving the guitar alone when I have folk in now. And if my nephew is one of them then you can count on me getting talked into a couple of songs. Go with the flow. You'll love it.

I remember once taking my guitar away camping and then totally forgetting every song I knew. Nightmare! I leave it at home now.

Fantastic! Aahh you can't beat "The Beautiful Game". Kids games are great, they usually end up something like 23 - 19 or something. Then you go to a pro game and think it's great if the score ends 2 - 1. Ach, I just love the game.

Well done selso jnr!

I've also got loads of vinyl and still listen to loads of it. I can't believe people actually got rid of their turntables in the name of progress. Just think of all that music you can't listen too. Very sad. Get yourselves out there and buy a turntable. Unfortunately they're about as expensive in relative terms as CD players were as opposed to turntables back in the 80s. Weird.

I'm led to believe that anyone can do this, with practice and experience. I can only guess a lot of experience. I have a friend who really has a quick ear as Zurf says. Man it's annoying.

I tend to go the same way as selso and figure out the basic chords from the low E string and then work from there. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's not. You've just got to get yourself in the zone and really concentrate on it. Which can be hard, depending on the environment you are working in.

Once you've done it once you'll feel so proud of yourself you will instantly become a living guitar god and everything will be at your mercy.

Pix,

I have a funny feeling this all strarted after an update by either java or macromedia. I have updated everything, even IE. Still no joy. Even Microsoft are stumped.

My brother recommended Firefox because of the amount of problems Microsoft create with IE (he's not a fan of microsoft at all). Think I'll stick with Firefox for now.

A nice easy one and one I'm sure you'll remember is Only You by Yazoo. It's on Chordie somewhere.

Summer of 69 is a classic and quite easy to master.

Dancing Queen by ABBA is a goody but it's more 70's

Friday I'm in Love by The Cure

Perfect Day by Lou Reed

In fact if you go to the Public Books section and do a search for alvee33 you'll find my songbooks. There's more than a few 80's songs in there. I've edited most of them but some are a bit rough and may need tweaking. Have a look.

OK.

After checking out "Gibson Eye" then I decided that I was a bit harsh. But have decided to move the post in here to Guitars and Accessories.

Apologies for any upset.

I take it murre was having a bad day. Oh the hardship of opening another tab. Oh the hassle of finding it on Youtube. If that's as hard as your day gets, mate, then I'm pleased for you.

As has been said here - Chordie does not host any of the songs it displays but finds them from across the internet. With an index running into the tens of thousands then I think an embedded video on every version of every song is just a bit too much to ask. Never mind the copyright issues it throws up.

This site is great for finding tabs and chords for songs; which then sets you off on the right direction for working out how to play the song for yourself. Yes, for youself. Youtube is also a great tool. I wonder what folk did before the internet. Oh yes, they had to think for themselves.

Rant over.

This is doubly impressive for me. One of those there long bows is nearly bigger than me. It'd take two of me just to load an arrow. God help those foolish enough to trespass on your land, KajiMa.

This thread has left me agog. I had no idea there had EVER been a French hit. How arrogant am I? I stand firmly in the corner with a large dunce cap on.

Hi t.c.lametoad,

the chords with a / in them are not two chords but one. The left side of the / is the basic chord and the right side is the bass note of that chord. So, A usually has an A bass note or root. But A/G would be the same A but with a G bass note.

so A is like x02220 and A/G is like 302220

Similarly G would be 320003 but G/B would be x20003

The numbers being the fret your finger is on on the corresponding strings EADGBe.

I hope this is understandable. If not feel free to rattle my cage.

Lmao. I had to edit this cos I got the numbers wrong.
