I have been looking for an interface for awhile and have tried several entry level ones and haven't been happy with any of them and I am not gonna bash any of them. I have found the one I will be getting and it is a step up but it can do so much more than the ones I have looked at.

This machine is also portable for your outdoor gigs or take it wherever and you don't need to bring your laptop along , it is a step up in price but I don't think it's one you will be replacing anytime soon either. This unit is in the $ 600 ball park , it is worth taking a look at.

Wayne, that was AWESOME!  I couldn't understand everything... some of those country drawls are mighty strong for this yankee... I LOVED seeing the hairstyles and clothing styles... and well, the music goes without saying.  Fantastic!  Thanks for sharing!

I didn't understand everything either but I did know what he was talkin about when he mentioned a Git tar and a Banjer smile

Hello Kim,

www.countrytabs.com has the lyrics and tabs. You will have to sign in to get them though. There is no charge for joining the site but it is required to access  the tabs. If you are into country, this site has more than I have found anywhere.

I use thumbpicks alot and my favorite is Fred Kelly "Slick Pick" it is very short and won't need trimming . Sometimes trimming them ruins the tone also. I played with my thumb for years and converted over to thumbpicks fairly easily it just takes more practice and you have to be accurate with a thumbpick.

There are alot of different thumbpicks out there and one thing besides the length is the angle when it's on your thumb. I have tried nearly every thumbpick made. Everyone has there own favorites.

Butch, Herco also makes a new nylon thumbpick that is really nice they are blue and I think they are 5012 ?

One of the best things about music is the different twists people do with great songs like this smile

Russell,

I have been working on this song for awhile also. I am doing mine I should say trying to do a Eva Cassidy style. It takes alot of practice to play and sing this one. I am trying to get it down with just a vocal and guitar. Such a nice song smile

I will keep an eye out for yours smile

Here's a video that I think is really nice by Ronny Cox , he does it little different than Steve Goodman. I just assumed for years that Steve Goodman had wrote this song and it was on his 1973 Somebody Else's Troubles  Album . Michael Smith wrote the song .  "The Dutchman" and "Hello in There  by John Prine are my 2 favorite songs of all time and they take turns at #1

If Ronny looks familiar , he was the guitar player in the movie  Deliverence.

Benson,

Them's a couple of good descriptions smile

Do you have any knowledge or trivia on Hillhippies, I live close to the Bighorn Mountains and we have alot of self proclaimed Hillhippies !

Norm,

I have added pickups to a couple of my guitars and if you follow the instructions they are pretty straight forward. I put a L.R Baggs I-Beam in my Martin and I am not happy with it and am gonna change it out to either another B-Band A-2 or a Fishman Ellipse Matrix.

I installed a B-band A-2 in my Epiphone and it is really nice and it has a preamp inside the guitar and it also has 2 transducers one under saddle and one under the bridge. It is clear and crisp.

The Fishman and the B-Band are both about $200 and there are alot cheaper ones that maybe good also.

The reason I don't like the LR Baggs I-beam I have in my Martin is, it doesn't have a preamp and I had to purchase a LR Baggs Paracoustic DI box which is a preamp to be able to get it to sound good.

The LR Baggs I-beam is about a $100 pickup and the Paracoustic is about $220 so I ended up spending alot and it still isn't the best. Another down side to this is carrying along two guitar chords for the in and out of the box and just another gadjet to have to drag along.

Alot depends on the guitar also whether it is Mahogany, Rosewood, Cedar as to what works the best. I would check out user reviews on what you are lookin at.

It really depends on your playing style as to what pickup may be your best bet . Whether your a hard strummer, flatpicker or a softer finger picker.

Howdy Ross and Welcome to Chordie,

Here is one I have been using with my grandson.

Here's another good one

Hey Tony,

You can always count on your fingers  like I use to do  my thumb was #1 and  my ring was #4 and the pinky finger was the 5 chord smile

So    Thumb was the #1  G chord , the index was A , the Middle finger B , the ring #4 that is the C  chord, and pinky is 5th D

It worked for me smile

Hey Tony,

I hope Russ will come to my rescue, I have no muscial training and I have been wrong on theory alot. Russ has a great way of explaining things.

alot of songs use a  1  4  5 progression and   and  the 6th is the relative minor

1     2    3   4    5    6  7
G    A   B   C   D   E   F              In the Key of G the  1 chord is G   the   4 chord is C      5th  chord is D

The 6th chord is E so it would become a Em

I would get a copy of the Circle of fifths and it will help you understand progressions and chords.

There are alot of songs that vary from this but the majority of songs follow this pattern.

The 1, 4 , 5 chords with relative minor

G C D  Em      Key of G

A  D  E  F#m    Key of A

C  F   G   Dm    Key of  C

D  A  G    Bm     Key of D

These are the most common progressions you should learn to start with

Thanks Fatstrings,

I can get the guitar pretty good but the vocals aren't working with the condensor. I think alot has to do with my room and Lizzie says "No Foam On the Walls that's where I Draw The Line."

Tops, I was tuned down a half step for "Hello in There"  and I can't remember if I was in standard tuning for Sam Stone ,
I guess it doesn't matter a half step off is better than being a half a bubble off smile

I played " Hello in There " for years  in the key of D and when I would hear it done with the G Am D7  I thought my way of playing just didn't transpose well. So started playing it the way most folks do and how John does it now. It was hard getting it down after playing it so long in another key. I have played it Capo 1 and Capo 2 and No Capo for awhile now and about a month ago I started tuning down a half step.

I just did a couple John Prine covers and thought the recordings turned out ok. I was trying with a condensor mic and got frustrated and plugged in to my Ultralight Acoustasonic and come out the back of it into a mixer then into Audacity. I used a small amount of reverb on guitar and vocal

Cam,

Take care of your special lady, she will need you more than ever. Our thoughts and prayers are with you folks.

Zurf,

I had a good friend that worked in a auto body shop his entire life and he always chuckled about all the weird and goofy guys working in his line of work. He always said he had an excuse for being a little odd inhaling all the fumes smile
