That was very deep James,

If I translated your comments correctly are you saying that David 137 should ignore anything that he is thinking of to write and just write what his lady wants to hear to gain her fair hand? <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_confused.gif" border=0 alt="Confused">

Hi badeye,

Your efforts have spurred me on to write another verse:

I can't get no relaxation,

She won't accept no explanation,

Every hour I have to prove,

My devotion with Hot Monkey Love,

And I'm tired, and I'm tired, and I'm tired and I'm tired,

I can't take no, no, no, no, no more Monkey Love. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

Hi James,

I was very impressed with this song.

I live, in a caravan, in Portugul at an orange grove. There are only 5 of us here. Michael, the owner, who has 15 cats, one of which (TT) has adopted me and has lived with me for 6 months now and is my constant companion. Neighbour Debbie has 3 cats and there are between 6 and 10 ferals around at any one time. I therefore have quite a collection of feline photographs and your song gave me an idea for a video. This URL will take you there and I hope you like my interpertation of your efforts.

<a href="http://www.veoh.com/videos/v229309n4wbJpMa" target="_blank">http://www.veoh.com/videos/v229309n4wbJpMa</a>

My 'recording studio' is my awning and all the photo's are mine. As a little aside I was particularly pleased with the picture of Liver and her 3 kittens as she is completely wild and will not let any of us within 10 feet of her. TT (Twinkle Toes), my companion who likes to play in puddles, opens the video.

I look forward to your comments and anyone else's who cares to watch it.

My initial thoughts on 'Hot Monkey Love' were to write new lyrics to a well known Stones song but doubling up on the first two lines. It started like this:-

I can't get no satisfaction,

I can't get the right reaction,

I just want my honey dove,

To make with me Hot Monkey Love.

But I tried and I tried and tried and I tried,

I can't get no, no, no, no, no Monkey Love.

It did not really flow and I got stuck there I'm afraid so I was waiting for the other, more prolific lyricists, Like yourself, Ken and ZombiE to mention but a few to come up with some ideas.

Hello MusicalMonkey,

I agree whole heartedly with pondrat15's comments. Most of us play for the pleasure of doing so, it does not matter if we cannot play well, it does not matter if we cannot sing well, as long as we enjoy what we are doing and are not harming anyone else, well, get on with it my friend and have fun. I have been playing rhythm guitar for for 48 years as a backing for my singing and have enjoyed every second of it. I have played in bands, duos and gone solo so keep at it and do not be disheartened.

As for easy songs to play you need to do no more than look in the Public books under Absolute Beginners to find some suitable songs. In fact look through any of the songbooks and you will find the words and chords for the songs so you need to be a rhythm player to perform them.

Good luck to you,

Roger

Hi James,

I did not think it would take you long to come up with the lyrics for 'Hot Monkey Love' but you even beat my expectations. Go for it man!

Hi mannel62,

Although there is no substitue for practice, practice and then more practice I think that in your case a few lessons from a qualified teacher (or an experienced musician )would be of benefit. I feel you need to have some one to actually see what you are doing and listen to your playing to advise you and to help you progress.

Hi nitrams,

You may have found what you were looking for by now but if not:-

Click on the Artist heading at the top of the page.

Click on 'S' and when loaded scroll down to  Segar, Bob.(note spelling)

Scroll down titles to 'Turn the Page(4)' and click on this.

Then click on any of the four versions to view.

From there you can tranpose, print or add to your songbook.

If you follow the same proceedure for Young, Neil, there are 377 song listed.

I hope this of help, it is not easy to give directions in writing but I am sure you will soon find your way round the site.

Hi Cytania,

I recently bought an electric guitar after many years of playing an acoustic and I found that I did not even like the sound of light strings. Yes, probably like you I was playing too hard. I changed to 11's, made a minor adjustment to the bridge and hey presto, I was a happy man. As I play rhythm guitar I strum and fingerpick and I think heavier string are more suiteable. For lead guitar though the lighter strings are probably better.

I hate to add though that the last time I had an electric you could only get one gauge of strings but there were two types, wire wound (for acoustic) and tape wound (for electric). As you can guess I had an embarrassing moment going back to the shop and insisting that the new set of strings that I had bought were for an acoustic and not an electric. Still one kind young man sat this old codger down and explained that things had moved on since the 60's. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

Hi darlene_1,

Further to jerome.oneil's comment you can transpose any three chord song you already know to the key of E. You can then just concentrate on the B chord and not learning a complete new song. You will probably find that the transposition will show B7 but for what you want to do you can substitute B.

Good luck,

Roger

Hi James,

Just saw this song you posted and, although I don't know it, I got out the guitar to sing it. I was getting all sentimental as I proceeded but then had do a quick stop to scroll down for the last verse - and very nearly fell of my chair laughing. I LIKE IT! <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

Hi Tunedeaf,

I have just copied Amazing Grace from your songbook to mine, however the song I recieved was the original version and not your edited version. (I have since deleted it). I did this by double clicking on the song from the green titles list of your songbook (do not click the 'view songbook' tag) to open it and then using the 'ADD to songbook' halfway down on the right hand side of that page. I hope this helps.

I have done this several time before but have never been able to copy the edited version to my song book so I just keep a printed copy of the edited song I want to learn. On thinking about it though it is probably unfair to put a song in my songbook as mine after someone else has done all the work in editing it.

I liked the songbook you just published though, I shall be spending some time with it later. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

Hello James,

I am out here and although I have not contributed to this thread previously thought I would throw this one in for comment after your request.

Each chord shown is one bar long except the F# & G before the chorus which are only half a bar each.

I am afraid to point out that the song did not win the lady in question's heart, but I tried. I am not sure whether it is my songwriting or wooing technique that need improving - perhaps both.

It is Air Supply performing All Out Of Love and Graham Russell who is left handed is playing a right handed guitar without any modification. There are some close ups of his right hand and as his stringing is effectively in reverse order it is fascinating to watch him play. As he was born in my home town of Nottingham in 1950 when left handed guitars were not available I assume that this was the way he learnt to play.

I am not suggesting that you try to emulate him as left handed guitars are available but I though it might be of interest. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

Like you guys I write songs from time to time. My inspiration is ususlly a lady and as you can guess it will probably be a love song.

The problem I find is that friends and family always say they like my work as they don't want to offend. Offering words and tabs on Chordie is no answer as no two people will ever sing the song the same way. So what we need is a new index at the top of the page putting 'My song' between 'My songbook' and 'Resources' where we can upload original songs we have written and recorded and invite constructive comment from others.

This is probably not possible but would be great if it could be done, and who knows maybe some Chordie member could end up with a number one hit.

Hi James and thank you for you comments.

Unfortunately, as you suspected, my Word songs are not in Chordpro format and the link you gave me will not help. However I have now noted 'bythechord' in my Favorites as I am sure it will be helpful to me in the future.

I am pleased that you liked what I have done in my songbook, there are not many in it at present, but it will grow in time.

Regards, Roger <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

Hello Vinton,

Why not transfer the songs you want to My Songbook. You can edit both tabs and lyrics and then print from there easily.

I do not think that that the format that Chordie uses and Word are compatible so it is unlikely that you will be able to do what you want to. I have a large library of songs and tabs in Word that I started years ago and the only way I can add to it is to print it from Chordie and then write the whole song out from scratch in Word. So now I have my own library and my new Chordie Songbook to maintain.

If anyone know an easier way I also would be please to hear.

In the 60's I had a twelve string and I thought that Gerry and the Pacemakers 'Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying' always sounded fantastic on it. The fullness of sound that the 12 string produces on the Cmaj7 and Fmaj7 cannot be matched with only 6 strings. It may not be the easiest of songs but is well worth the effort. (I have corrected the words and tab and added it to my song book if you want to learn it).

I hope you have as much pleasure from your 12er as I had. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

The two obvious reasons that come to mind for strings breaking are incorrect routing causing a kink or trying to tune an octave too high. As your problem might be neither of these ideas, I would suggest that you take it to your local guitar shop and ask them to re-string for you this time. I am sure if you explain your problem they will check if there is a fault with the guitar itself and show you the correct way of restringing a guitar. (After playing for nearly 40 years I only recently found that there is a correct way of fastening strings to the machine heads which helps prevent de-tuning). Sorry I cannot be of more help but it is difficult without having the guitar to hand to be more specific.

I must second your comments about Chordie and the Chordie forum. I had been using the site for about a year before registering but only to obtain words and tabs for song I wanted to learn. Only very recently have I started taking an interest in the forum and have been impressed with the quality of the queries and answers (my impression of other forums I have visited have been very negative, they seem to be childish and/or smutty). I never though I would be taking part in one but here I am and pleased to be involved. Well done to Chordie and especially to all members who contribute and make it what it is. FANTABULOUS. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">
