Rose Bowl is going to be a great game.   My bet on the NCS game is Auburn blows out FSU by a wide margin.

Everybody has to come through Seattle.  smile  I'm going to enjoy watching the chaos that ensues up in Packerland.  I hope Rogers is fully recovered, because he is fun to watch and if he ends up broken for the long term, that would be a bad thing for everyone that likes football.

In college football news, local Husky hero Marques Tuiasosopo managed to do with the Huskies on a shoestring what Steve Sarkasian couldn't do in five years:  Win a bowl game.  He was also the last guy to beat Drew Breese in college.

I'm stoked for the Chris Peterson era to begin here.

Mr. Clampett (RIP) built a homade bass and had it strung with weed eater strings. Sounded pretty good.

My washtub bass is strung with clothes line.  Appropriate, I think.

Ah....  There is something to be said for volume.    You get more perception in headphones than you do out the amp.  So turn it up to 11 and see if that doesn't help.

I'll punch out that drum track tonight I think, after all the kids have gone to bed.    I'll also load it up with the most obnoxious kit I can find.  big_smile

Santa's workshop.   smile

Couldn't get it right out of the amp, or recorded?  I've had too many occasions where it sounded like the love child of Lita Ford and Stevie Ray Vaughn coming out of the amp, but when I played it back, it sounded like me.  sad

I've never had a desire to use coated strings.  I did drop a guage on my acoustics (.13s to .12s) last time I restrung it, and I'm pretty happy with that.  I'm gonna put flat wounds on THUNDERSTICK!!!, too.  So change is good.  Sorta. big_smile

Stanford vs Michigan State might be the best game on TV all year.  big_smile

Strange days in the NFC today, boys!

Seahawks got beat at home (had to happen).  Arizona is looking really good, Philadelphia is looking like the Oregon Ducks, and no one has anything locked up in week 17.

Good times!

Yup.  That is the one team I don't want to see up here.

Yup.  That's why they play the games.

But have you seen the NFC championship odds?

I'd put my "why the heck not" money on Philly at 25:1.

I like what Indiana Jones says "Don't tell me the odds" your odds makers may be right and I almost agreed with them on Seattle till San Fran pulled the rug out from under them.

The thing about the odds makers are they aren't really tracking their expected outcome, they're tracking where the bets are going.  They want equal money coming in for both teams, which is why the spread and odds change.   If too many people are betting one side over the other, they'll adjust the odds to entice people to take the other team.

What this says is that almost all the money is going to Seattle in the NFC, which is why the payout is so low.  You have to bet $2 to win $3.

I agree with BGD.   Inversions are going to just happen as a result of certain shapes or if you're a little lose with the pick.  For example, if you're playing a C in the open position, and manage to strum the E string, congratulations, you've just played the 1st inversion of C.

If you play piano, or are really, really good on the fretboard, they're a lot more relevant and meaningful.

If you have sheet music, the key is indicated by the collection of sharps or flats at the beginning of each bar.   If there are none, you're in C major or A minor (or one of five other modes).

Here is a good little mnemonic to help you remember.

This being the case, you don't need an amp at all.

Normally I'd say I felt bad for the Giants, but Eli Manning has always bugged me.  big_smile

Right now, the Seahawks have to win 1 of their remaining two games and they are the #1 seed, or, the 49ers have to lose both their remaining games, but I don't see that happening in this universe.

The NFC playoffs are going to be a bloodletting between the Panthers, '9ers, and Seahawks, with everyone else as chum (sorry Russell!)

Should be good stuff!

Man, you guys are old.     I've been 25 for two decades.  big_smile

Besides being rude, it's also illegal.

Send them a letter reminding them that the States are bound to the Americans with Disabilities Act and it's prohibition against discrimination based on disabled status.  Then copy your state representative and the director of the DMV.

Unless they can demonstrate that your wife's handicap somehow impairs her ability to operate the vehicle safely, they're violating the law.

This February I'm taking an all day harmonizing workshop with Tim and Molly O'Brien.  I'm completely stoked.  Mostly about being in the same room with Tim O'Brien for a whole day, but the singing help will be nice, too.  big_smile

I've been out of town all weekend.  I was able to catch the end of Denver loosing to the Chargers, and that's about it.

Army - Navy is one of those games on my bucket list, along with Auburn - Alabama, and Ohio State - Michigan.

The only other thing I would comment to more advanced players (I consider myself a player, not a teacher) is that scales make sense when we pick out little tunes and runs using the scale as the guide to avoid sour notes.

One of my favorite all time players, Shawn Lane, used to say that "The great thing about scales is that they remind you that even if you hit a bad note, you're only one fret away from a good one."

Sage advice.

Learn and use the chords, rather than the tabs, and you won't need tabs.

Dig up anything you can on Jerry Douglas.  That dude is awesome.

It's the room you're in.  smile

Check out the quite awesome video of a simple drum pattern played in a variety of different acoustic spaces.  These are recorded dry.  No 'verb, no EQ, no coloration at all.  Just the mic and the kit and the space.

So the next time you're wondering about what to use to record, spend some time thinking about *where* you record, too.  It will make more difference than anything else you can buy.
