Dean Exotica. 100% junk. Looked real pretty( I received tons of compliments on how pretty it looked) but the electronics seemed to be assembled and/or installed underwater. Worked for approximately 1 week then the problems began. Returned it 3 times then finally the music store felt my my frustation and gave me a full refund. Dean guitars need to put more emphasis on the inside of the guitars and less on the fancy paint jobs and glossy finishes, in my humble opinion.................

A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband.Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. 'Careful,' he said, 'CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my gosh! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my gosh! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful. CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER list en to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the! salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!' The wife stared at him.. 'What in the world is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?' The husband calmly replied, 'I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving.'

Hi RavenLady,
I viewed the episode with Tony Bennett. Elvis' lovely and extremely talented wife, Diana Krall played a few tunes with Tony. Diana is one of finest musicians in the business. I bet their kids are be something special( in the arena of music) when they get a little older. Elvis is a real dude and his knowledge of music is vast. This is a great show, I only wish Elvis would play a little bit more himself. I get what he's doing though, not trying to steal the spotilght from his guests. This, along with Austin City Limits, is one of the best shows on TV( in my insignificant opinion).

NO, backing tracks in a live setting are lame. You'll fool most of the general public but the "real" musicians will "pfft" you and tell all of their friends. Milli Vanilli, Ashley Simpson and Kenny Chesney

Control your own destiny and play solo. I play 90% of my gigs solo. It's much easier to organize practice sessions and decide on which songs to play......

Did you see him do it? I appreciate your passion in standing up for someone you obviously have immense respect for. Could we go so far as to call it a man crush?( haha, just jokin' wit' ya)
I personally have spent lots of time in the "gutter" bars of Nashville. My baby sister lives there and I visit her often. I 've met and spoke with Stacy Mitchhart and Blues-U-Can-Use band that play at Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar in the heart of "printers alley"( Gretchen Wilson was discovered at this fine locale).
In 3rd and Lindsley I met 3 dudes that call themselves "Bone Pony"( Scott, Bryan, and Tramp). Fantasic band, ya gotta see 'em in person to believe what they can do live!
And finally in a dark, moldy, old landmark bar on the "wrong" side of the tracks in Nasheville I met a group of gentleman by the name of Larry Cordle and Lonesome Standard Time band at the Station Inn.
Maybe your circle of friends in Nashville have some top secret information on KC that the guys and gals I know are not aware of. ( it is possible and I'd love to be proven wrong, it'd be a beautiful story) I would never be so brash to question your word but from my personal paths of travel in Nashville on the road of currently working musicians, KC is not one whom these musicians aspire to emulate. And until I see it with my own eyes and hear it with my own ears,I say Kenny Chesney is a poser...........

"He can lay it down. "
I guess this is why Chesney holds a guitar on stage and rarely, if ever, plays a song through from start to finish. Brad Paisley ,Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, Marty Stuart, and Keith Urban can and do play guitar. I have my opinion of the dude(KC) and it is this; he's lame, hugely sucessly and props to him and his management team for this feat, but his voice and guitar posing on stage erks me to no end.........I do however have an open mind and if anyone can produce a video link of KC "tearin' it up" or "layin' it down", maybe I'll change my tune of ole' double lump head. (haha) Everything I've seen up to this point in time however shapes my thoughts and opinions of him.

Re: Why do I keep breaking my B string (2 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Hi Royce,
The first and easiset step would be to apply a touch of pencil lead between your strings and saddle. This creates a smoother gliding surface thus reducing friction that sometimes leads to snagging, which leads to string breaking. If this doesn't do the trick( resolve your problem) then the problem most likely is too deep of a string groove in your saddle. This problem is beyond my area of expertise......

Re: MOST ENNOYING SINGERS, LIKE A TEACHER USING CHALK ON HIS BOARD-NOISE (36 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Kenny Chesney...........it sounds like he's singin' with big ole' jelly beans lodged deep within his nostrils. And I heard tale once of a man who saw KC with his hat off . According to this fella that saw KC hatless, he swears Kenny has two golf-ball sized lumps right on top of his head that jiggle like jello when he walks. This may or may not be totally true.
I watched a CMT story tellers episode once in which KC, with a close-up camera in his face, tell a "story" of a song he'd "written". (ahem) After his long-winded blah-blah-blah fest the song began. The camera panned away revealing KC playing a G chord on his unplugged guitar for the entire song. There were 2 "real" guitarists flanking KC to his left and right that were playing acoustic guitars( very well I must say), and changing chords at appropriate times, and their guitars were plugged in.........This is 100% true.
I have zero tolerance for posers.

Re: String Buzz (2 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Hi Roger,
You're doing the right thing, just take it slow and easy. Filing your frets down with some fine grain sandpaper is perfectly OK. Just don't go too far with it. And as far as replacing all of the frets when a few are worn down, do not listen to a luthier who insists that all of the frets need to be replaced. This is a gimmick often used by the big time corporate music stores of the universe and it's a major scam. ( Sorry scammers!)
The guy that re-frets my guitars will replace the frets that are worn down and those only. If you get a flat tire on your car do you change all of the remaining tires? Nope. Same principle with guitar frets. They big boys will try to tell you that frets have to be ordered as a set to accomodate a specific guitar. Total fabrication of truth.
Guitar frets come in huge, rounded spools of metal and are cut to fit specific guitars. Look for someone who'll replace only your overly worn frets. I usually pay, approximately $15 per fret( if 5 frets or less need replacing) to the gentleman who repairs my worn down frets. Maybe $10 per fret if 10 or more are in need of replacing. I try to make to sure that the gentleman repairing my child of music gets at least $40 per hour( plus tip, 20% usually) for his time. And a good repair guy can do at least 5 frets in an hours time....

Toney

These are pretty cool gadgets for you shredders out there but I'd be very leery about drilling holes into the headstock of a guitar. I don't mean to take customers away from Jennifer but a good ole' thick pony-tail holder( fluffy elastic device) works just as good and no harm comes to your guitar.....

I used to be a Cincinnati Reds fan back in the Big Red Machine days. George Foster was my favourite player when I was a kid. Now days I root for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. They actually changed the name of the team to the "Rays" last year. I refuse to succumb to this change. I've been a fan since the teams' inception in 1998 and I'll always call 'em the Devil Rays. What a year they had last year! Hopin' for more of the same, if not a little better this year. The family tries to attend at least one game per season. We usually sit out in right field and relentlessly heckle the opposing teams right fielder. Tons of fun!!!!

Hi Micky,
These chords are called split chords. For example a D/C chord can be broken down like so; the D would be the right hand on a piano and the C would be the left hand on piano. Here's a great chord site that practically deals with thousands of chords, including the "split" chords that you seek.

I read about this guy in my former hometown's on-line newspaper ( Roanoke Times in SW Virginia) Charlie plays 8 & 7 string guitar using the lower strings to play bass lines while simaltaneously playing chords and lead riffs on the "normal" sized strings. The dude is an extremely talented musician. The saxaphone player in "If 6 Was 9" is pretty sick as well.
