I received nothing musical for Christmas. But I will look snazzy playing in my new clothes.

Self-taught, and it shows. Too stubborn to quit despite the usual set-backs, hurdles, etc. Also a procrastinator, and did  I mention stubborn, so I've contemplated taking lessons for about a year and a half. I know it will help but once I "master" the guitar I'll have to take up singing as I've realized that "playing the guitar" actually means playing and singing. I'm pretty comfortable in public speaking situations but singing? This is so far outside my comfort zone I can't even see it with a Celestron telescope purchased from Edmund's Scientific catalog!

Simple: my Seagull S6. Every time I play it I am satisfied and can (almost) convince myself this is the one. So far, so good!

Or maybe a Martin 000-15SM.

Merry Christmas to all! Thanks for a great year of conversation, help, and the occasional swift kick to the buttocks (Zurf) to keep me in line a playing.

I hope you all get to spend time with your family and friends during this Holiday season and, of course, play your guitar(s).

I'm with Zurf: Martin 000-15M.

Merry Christmas!

J3, try NOT playing for a week or so. I've often read this helps and, in fact, I just completed a week-long hiatus due to a business trip sans guitar. And when I got back to playing it seemed as if it was all new but I was actually better?

Back in the U.S., guitar in hand, and it seems as if I've improved during my playing hiatus?

Beamer,
I have a travel guitar. For this trip i new there would be no time to play. In Munich, on my way home. I should have guitar in my hands Saturday morning.

Leaving town for about ten days and I cannot take a guitar this time. It will be tough but I'll have a couple weeks off over the Holidays so maybe i can make up for the lost time.

Zurf,
I didn't mean to imply a MAC would solve this problem. But mine has solved many of my headaches.

I've never fooled around with any Photoshop product. I simply don't have time to edit photographs. My MO is to capture the best image I can and move on. On the other hand I know many people who edit, edit, edit. I don't have the patience.

Unfortunately my attempts at writing fall prey to this same MO. Despite, the evidence to the contrary that most, if not all, successful (good) authors spend at least as much time editing and revising as they do writing. Again, I have no patience and little discipline I suppose.

I hope you are able to solve your dilemma.

Your best bet is to email photograph of the label and any other distinguishing details to Godin/Simon & Patrick customer service. They have helped me numerous times. I once had a Norman (another Godin brand) 12-string with a label but no model #. I emailed a few photos and they were able to identify the model, etc.

Zurf,
Your frustration is palpable as I've been there myself. Who hasn't? I switched over to a MAC this year after working with PCs since their inception. I did this because I wanted a computer that worked every time I wanted to use it. I was weary of having to "tune-up" my computer every time I wanted to use it. And this seemed to be the requirement with PCs. I don't want to work ON the computer; I want to work WITH the computer.

Unfortunately I am required to use a PC for work so I have the whole bifurcation issue to work with. But the MAC is a Godsend!

I have experienced the same thing with "free" being better than " purchased".

Good luck. Don't pull all your hair out.

dino48,
I don't write in books either. I was taught "you NEVER write in books". So now I read on a Kindle (e-reader) where I cannot "write" on the book if I wanted. Although I can still highlight and add marginalia and such Sharpie-free (electronically).

If we met I may like you but I would not let you have a go at my guitar with a Sharpie, #2 pencil, or crayon, etc.:)

Crevs,
Rut no more! I've been "playing" for three years and I still suck. I don't sing and don't play in public. You are a guitar GOD compared to me so keep at it and, who knows, maybe you will inspire some else along - like me!

I simply do not get this.

I would not pay one penny for this guitar or any other where some blockhead (famous or not) took a Sharpie to it.

I suppose some clamor for this kind of stuff but not me. No thanks!

p.s. Autographing a guitar is morally wrong. Would you let someone sign a fine piece of furniture?

Bunbun,
I write this with one hand because the index finger of my other is touching the tip of my nose.

I just think the seller is full of crap, pardon my Latin. He seemed like a nice, honest guy when I met him but his $200 post is crap. I know it. He knows it. But it's not my concern and I do not feel compelled to call him out on this.

Actually I considered buying the guitar back (at $150) but have sense moved on with another small-bodied guitar and really have no need.

Here’s an Art & Lutherie Ami guitar for sale @ $150 – a good price.

Now here’s the same guitar listed @ $200

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/msg/2715700033.html

Okay, so what you ask?

Well I know this guitar as I sold it to this seller about two months ago for $150. I don’t have a problem with someone making a profit – I try to do it frequently. I do have a problem with two simultaneous ads for the same item. (Housekeeping) And I do have a problem with him saying this, “i [sic] am the original owner and it is priced at less than 50% of what i have in it." For the record, I wasn't even the original owner of this instrument.

Unless he spent a LOT of money on it for the new strings, etc. this guy is a chucklehead, and that’s being nice! Really, this is of NO concern of mine as it falls outside of both my circle of responsibility and my circle of concern but I am troubled by this.

The only one I remember was Dash Rip Rock! He would play the guitar, sing, and dance around on his tip-toes. But alas I think he was actually Fred.

Excellent answer to your boss's question by the way. Wished I'd thought of it.

Dirty Ed,
I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the RK ROS-16, or any RK for that matter. Yes, imported - made in China - but the label also says "Designed in the U.S.A.". I've owned two RKs and played several more over the last three years. They are high quality instruments. Why just today I looked an ROM-06, an RO-10, and an ROS-06. I could have purchased any or all and been very happy. Currently I own an RP-06 which is a slot-head, 12-fret, )-sized guitar. I love it.

Keep us posted on your GAS exploits. By the way I buy/sell all the time keeping the ones I like. Currently I am at two (which is a low number for me): A Seagull S6 and the aforementioned RK.

Have fun and GET BACK TO PLAYING!

I am fast approaching the end of the third year of my guitar-playing quest. It has been fun, rewarding, and a source of joy in my life but, as I’ve previously mentioned, I find myself in a rut. And although it is seductive and deliciously fun it is still a rut and I must escape. If you are thinking this stubborn old mule is considering guitar lessons you are right sir (or ma’m). I have some talent but apparently not enough to succeed without help or a lot more time. I just turned 48 so the clock is ticking.

I ask for one suggestion or piece of advice each on how I find/select an instructor/teacher. Thanks in advance for your support. I hope to qualify for one of Zurf’s Jam-Fests some day.
