Hi Helena,

Great song and fun to play.

Surely the male of the species cannot be like this, oh well I will now get back in my cage lol

Well done and thank you,

I am getting rather embarrassed. I set up Friends of Chordie for Chordie songwriters to post their songs and it is becoming more like a Roger Guppy site. With two MySpace and and one YouTube I do not really need another. So I have decided to no longer post my songs on FoC I will use my own site in future.

PLEASE. Songwriters get yourself a cheap microphone and record your work. The quality of the recording is not an issue but it is far better to hear the song the way it is intended to be played with the correct melody. No one expects a virtuoso performance and you never know, you might enjoy it as Mark (Bud_Wiser), Jeff (Jets60) and James McCormick and set up your own MySpace for your songs. Give it a whirl, sent it to me and I will be more than happy to remove mine to make room for yours.

Lets start a new campaign and "Get Roger Guppy off Friends of Chordie."

Hi guys thank you for your very kind comments, but if it were not for all of you the song would not, and could not, be.

Huoyuanjia there is about 6 hours work in that song. I had the first two lines of the chorus in my head and then had to research to find the active Chordie Members who had more than 150 postings but found I needed to find a few more ladies. I tried to include as many songwriters as I could and I also had to include special friends like my pretend granddaughter, Rhiannon (Hinder_Rox07), also Krishanu from Calcutta. This gave me 45 names to work with. After writing the lyrics and chords and deciding on the melody I had to revise the song so I did not get too tongue tied reeling off the names.

I then wrote a backing track and laid three guitar tracks over it. The longest in time being the small instrumental part as that is not my forte (it is in fact picking string whist playing the chords). Then finally laying down the vocal track and if you have tried singing all those names you will know that it is none too easy so I had about 6 attempts at that.

So all in all about 4 hours to write it and 2 to record it.

In the songwiting section SouthPaw41L admitted that:

I once drove my motorcycle into a telephone pole while looking back at a station wagon full of young gals from Tennessee. Lucky for me the folks who lived by the pole I hit were doing some remodelling to their home and had some sheet rock tilted against the pole I ran into. I escaped with only minor injuries to myself and motorcycle but my pride was almost totaled.
There, I told you mine now you tell us yours!

Is anyone else willing to share their most embarrassing moment?

OK I had better reveal mine after that. Whist out with some friends when I first came to Portugal I went, in a rush, to a loo. On the way I saw the sign "Homem" and read it as "Women" and so went flying into the other one. Homem is Portugues for MEN. Ooops. I came out a darn sight faster than I went in and of course my friends were all laughing their socks off and kept reminding me for weeks.

Hi Jeff,

This certainly was very easy to play and I had great fun playing it upbeat and perky.

Like Old Doll I too always think that "I can do that" and I have done just as you describe in your song.

Thank you,

Roger

Hello and welcome to Chordie. Certainly the F chord is not easy to master and I am pleased that you have just about cracked it. Keep at it and very soon you will be wondering about the next hard one to learn.

Take care,

Roger

It is a while since I posted a song that is entirely my own work and this one has been mulling around my head for some time. I finally got it together so here it is. If I have pronounced your name wrong or omitted anyone please accept my apologies in advance.

It is on FoC at: http://www.myspace.com/friendsofchordie

Hi Ken,

If you know you breathe properly when singing, give up the talking and just sing, it will solve your problem. lol

Seriously, all the best mate and I hope all goes well.

Many years ago I sang at a karaoke evening. I was on a promice from my girlfriend if I sang "Save The Last Dance For Me" for her. I upheld my part of the bargain (which went down well) - she did not - so never again.

I do agree though that it is usually those who cannot sing who try karaoke so I now avoid bars that have it.

Hi Jeff,

Love the sentiment of this song. It is great to people around you to lift and encourage when you are down. This is not the easiest of songs to play straight off so I think I will 'Badeye' and see if I can make a better job of it this time around.

Thank you,

Roger

I might be preaching to the converted but, when playing barre chords, do make sure that your thumb is placed in the middle of the neck and not wrapped around it. Wrapping the thumb around the neck does make it ache.

Nice one Jeff,

It plays and flows well, I enjoyed singing it.

My daughter is in the UK and I certainly enjoy our phone calls far better than the e-mails. Luckily though she is usually in when I ring. Mind you she is now 37 with 2 children of her own but I still worry about her and I still think of her as my little girl., and I suppose I always will.

Thank you,

Roger

Hi Traite,

I also listened to your songs and I particularly liked "Chase the Blue Sky". I hope you will post the lyrics and chords on the forum sometime.

Hi Ken,

Just watched the video for this song, very good. I gave it maximum stars but only because you used Old Doll's silhouette in the shower for it lol.

By the way I cannot play it to the wife as I do not have one. Two ex ones but no current Mrs Guppy so I am perfectly safe.

Take care,

Roger

Hi Guitarpix,

In my opinion learning new songs does get easier as you get more experienced as your fingers automatically press the right string or strings in the right place on the fingerboard or, in the case of your right hand, pick the right string/strings.

You will be able to play a new song immediately on seeing the music score or chords and lyrics. You will be able to jam along with others without knowing the song at all as your ears will tell you what to play.

However you can still have difficulties. I recently decided to learn Carole King's "You've Got A Friend". There is a Csus in it, a chord I have never used before, so I had to spend a couple of hours learning it which was fine but then I found I could not play C7 correctly so I had to re-learn that. It all adds to the fun of guitar playing

Take care,

Roger

Hi Ken,

A heartfelt song of an awful experience which luckily I have not experienced and I do hope that you are still in touch with your father now.

I tried it fast but preferred to play it at a more moderate tempo.

Thank you,

Roger

Hi Daddycool,

I agree with Old Doll and would have liked a longer version as it is a lovely song and great to fingerpick. Well done.

Thank you,

Hi Ken,

I enjoyed playing and singing your song but as the only female around at the time was my cat it was perfectly safe to do so. I would not dare sing it otherwise lol.

Thank you (I think)

Roger
