Thank you James,

I have to say here and now that there is absolutely nothing wrong with your recordings they are a delight. We all have different levels of skills with out chosen instrument and voice, and different levels of equipment to use to record so no one is expecting a professional performance. However having the recording gives the melody, tempo and feel of the song and, in my opinion, one is then better able to pass comment.

For my money anyone who has the bottle to grab a microphone and play and sing into it deserves a medal. You can suffer from stage fright with just a microphone in front of you and no audience so well done to anyone who has a go.

Don Corleone, speaking as one who had his last cigarette on Saturday, you really should give up.

Hopeful,

There is nothing to stop you using that picking pattern to this song.

Hey Rebel,

I like your lyrics but my guitar is screaming at me to play it. I have told her to be patient and wait for you to give us the chords.

So when are you going to let me satisfy her? lol

Nice work so far.

Hi Jeff,

Great poem and it will make fine lyrics for a song. Just goes to prove that straying off the straight and narrow can sometimes be interesting and rewarding.

I am looking forward to the finished song.

Hi Hopeful,

I think you will find it is not picked as fast as you think. I have the 1966 video on my PC and you can only see Paul's right hand, but with both he and Peter fingerpicking differently the sound just blends together and it is impossible to reproduce one one guitar.

It is probably because you are changing from a little girl into a young woman and they  love you dearly and want to protect you from the big bad world. It is a phase that most parents go through.

Hi Doll,

I'll second SouthPaw, definitely one groovy lady. Fingerpicked from start to end and it began to stir some memories that I prompty put back in the file.

Thank you,

Been there, done that and worn the T shirt but many years ago. I have a bit more self control these days.

Hi Jeff,

A nice song to play, relax and recharge your spirits with. You are certainly right that you need something to turn to to take your mind off the day to day humdrum and pressure and nothing is better than the guitar.

Thank you,

Nice one James,

The balance between the autoharp and your voice is exactly right on this recording. Very good and well done,

Hi Ray and Jeff,

Thank you for your comments. Incidentally Dianne and Rick Price, her long time partner, married on their twentieth anniverary. Rick was the bass played for The Move and Wizzard and they now perform together and have their own recording studio in Weston-super-Mare.

This song is the true story of events earlier this year. For the younger and non-English members, Dianne Lee was part of the Peters and Lee duo that shot to fame in the UK in 1973 after appearing on Opportunity Knocks, a talent programme on TV.

As usual I have recorded it on:  http://www.myspace.com/rogerguppy

I hope you like it but all comments good or bad are welcome.

The Ballad of Me and Dianne LeeWords and Music by Roger Guppy

.

.

Intro:

[D][D4][D][Dsus2]

.

One [D]day in April two [G]thousand and seven,

With a [D]pal, I walked into a [A]bar,

[D]It was not very [G]far from my home,

Just a [D]few miles [A]in my [D]car. [D4] [D] [Dsus2]

.

[D]After we'd had a [G]glass or two,

A [D]lady 'bout my age came [A]in,

She [D]took the seat [G]alongside me,

.A [D]conver[A]sation did be[D]gin.[D4][D][Dsus2]

She [D]told me that her [G]name was Jo,

And [D]after a while said to [A]me,

[D]That she had been quite [G]famous once,

On [D]stage she was [A]Dianne [D]Lee.[D4][D][Dsus2]

Well [G]I remembered [D]Peters and Lee,

Who [G]shot to fame in seventy [D]three,

For [G]I had fallen [D]head over heels,

With the [A]beautful, blonde [D]lady.[D4][D][Dsus2]

I [D]quickly whispered [G]to my pal,

My [D]most exciting disco[A]very,

She [D]told Dianne that [G]I sang too,

And I'd really [D]love her to [A]sing with [D]me.[D4][D][Dsus2]

.

An [D]impromptu session [G]did begin,

But [D]I was upset to [A]realise,

That [D]this lady often sang [G]out of key,

[D]It was a [A]big sur[D]prise.[D4][D][Dsus2]

.

Now [D]she had had a [G]drink or three,

And was a [D]little worse for [A]wear,

But [D]I was singing [G]with Dianne,

So I [D]did not [A]really [D]care.[D4][D][Dsus2]

She [G]said she really [D]liked my voice,

And we [G]sang together real [D]well,

Per[G]haps we could practice [D]as a duet,

And become [A]famous, who can [D]tell.[D4][D][Dsus2]

[D]I went home on cloud [G]number nine,

Fame and [D]fortune not far a[A]way,

But [D]I began to [G]get suspicious,

[D]By the [A]following [D]day.[D4][D][Dsus2]

.

[D]Why would someone once [G]famous,

Want to [D]team up with an unknown from a [A]bar?

Her [D]singing and the [G]things she'd said,

Did [D]not ring [A]true by [D]far.[D4][D][Dsus2]

.

I [D]searched throughout the [G]Internet,

And [D]soon found out the [A]truth,

[D]I had been told a [G]pack of lies,

She was [D]not the [A]love of my [D]youth.[D4][D][Dsus2]

In [G]May of the year two [D]thousand and two,

[G]Dianne and Rick Price did ma[D]rry

[G]They have two children, [D]Elliott and Sam;

Elliott [A]born just this Feb[D]ruary.[D4][D][Dsus2]

My [D]ego was completely de[G]flated,

Chance of [D]fame and fortune [A]gone,

[D]All my dreams were [G]shattered,

By this [D]heartless, [A]lying wo[D]man.[D4][D][Dsus2]

.

So [D]now it is back to [G]reality,

Hard [D]work from day to [A]day,

[D]Sing and gig for [G]pleasure and fun,

And [D]put the [A]dreams a[D]way.[D4][D][Dsus2]

I [G]well remember [D]Peters and Lee,

Who shot to [G]fame in seventy [D]three,

For [G]I had fallen [D]head over heels,

With the [A]beautful, Dianne [D]Lee.[D4][D][Dsus2] [D]

Thank you Alvee, DaddyCool and Don Corleone,

It is funny how you can feel that you know, and feel close to, people that you have never met but have read what they are thinking on the Forum and in e-mails. Mind you we do all share the same interest and passion so I suppose that helps.

Don,  just a tip, for you and any one else who sings it. Before you do just make sure that dentures (if you have them) are well stuck in before you sing the chorus lol

Hi Jeff,

I can really relate to this one as my lttle girl (she is 37 by the way) is in the UK and I feel the same towards her as you do yours. Now you have sung it to her why not send her a CD of it so she can listen to it when she is down and missing you.

Lovely song and a great one to fingerpick. Well done.

Thank you,

Roger

Hi Jeff,

Funny how it is often the little things in life that are more important then the big ones. That being said another fine song showing your love and absolute dedication to your wife.

Thank you,

Both Jerome and Bootlegger are correct there is no easy way you literally have to practice till it hurts.

I am very curious though, back in July you posted a message that your parents would not let you have an electric guitar and a lot of advice was given to you at that time. Have you managed to persuaded them to let you have one?

Take care,

Roger

Hello Gypsywolf,

Welcome to Chordie. Unfortunately Chordie does not host any songs, apart from the original ones by members in the Songwriting section. It is a search engine and it collects the songs from the Internet. Pease look in the Resorourses section for more information.

Sorry Selso and anyone else if I have not made myself clear in the original posting.

Friends of Chordie (FoC) is a MySpace site that I set up for Chordie Members to have their recording heard if they had no place of their own to do so. Unfortunately it seemed to be mostly my recordings on it latelyand this was a light hearted attempt to encourage the many recent songwriter to record their work and allow us all to hear the songs.

Please, please keep writing and posting your songs on the Forum but if you can have a go at recording it will be more than welcome.

By the way your computer cannot be as old as me as my first guitar had dinosaur gut for strings lol

Again apologies for the lack of clarity.

Take care and keep writing and posting,

Roger

Hi Per,

James's problem also occurs in posting a song on the forum. In my last offering "Chordie Friends" I had a long 16 line chorus broken into 4 parts of four lines each. I had to use a multitude of {soc} and {eoc} to enable it to look right.

Hi Per,

Any chance you are able to make the original songs in the Songwriters section easily printable so they come out 'all nice and purdy'. Thank you.

Thanks Ken,

Praise from yourself and Toney (SouthPaw) who are regular performers means an awful lot.

Thank you Ark, glad you are back with us again and I am pleased that you liked this little number.

Pretend granddaughter Rhiannon I am glad you like it too. We have not had a song on the Forum from you lately but I hope you are still writing.

Hi,

The Campaign is underway. Mark Robertson (Bud_Wiser) has sent me "Rediscover" to upload to FoC so that has got rid of one of me. I am particularly grateful to Mark as he does have his own MySpace site, so thank you Mark.

Rhiannon I am looking forward to receiving a song from you as soon as you can record one, thank you.

Now how about the rest you guys and gals who have never recorded one? Go on give it a bash, please.
