Hey Normtheguitar.

Hope your wife gets better (and have a carrot cake muffin for me!!!) tongue

Cool picture, had to put it up.

Did you know that like the Archery Law of 1363, which states that every man in the UK MUST equip himself with bows and arrows and practice which never got recinded, Oliver Cromwell passed a law that made Maypole Dancing illegal and that never got recinded!

Have a good one!

Hey Chordians.

It's a Bank Holiday in the UK today.

Is it a Bank Holiday in your country? Do you call it something different?

Whatcha doin'?

I've got horses to feed, dog to walk and laundry to do, I'm going to have a go at learning "Heavy Horses" in between and then this evening it's our Folk/Acoustic Jam Sesh at my local - the Queen Vic. Good to see you there if you can make it!

Coefficience of Expansion?!

Thanks Toney, I'll try to remember that! cool

If someone could tell me what the technique I recommended in terp53's post New Member in the chat corner is called, I'd be made up. Brains gone blank and feel stoopid.

Now even on the edit I can't find the vertical character on the keyboard that makes the smilie that expresses this. (2nd one down)

I'm obviously going to have a good day!

Hey Tine.

Sorry your confidence got dented. It really is hard getting it together again after something that can do that.

At least here you're among friends who'll give you a hand up with both guitar and chin.

If cyberspace can transmit good vibes, they're heading to you

Hey Doc.

That is one cool/funny avatar! cool lol

There was a guy in my local music shop in a wheel chair and he was looking for a guitar strap that wouldn't slip (unlike everything else he'd ever bought/tried). He didn't buy one.

The next time I saw him I asked if he'd got a strap. He said he didn't bother buying one as he'd found that a seat belt from a car (after some modification) did the job perfectly!

Maybe there are others who might find this snippet useful!?

Hey Terp53, welcome aboard.

You're never too old to pick up the guitar.................................................again.

Brian May (Queen) recommends to do a scale with repeats (don't know what it's called, but can do it - sort of).

With the scale for C, C being 1, D being 2, E being 3, etc, play 1, 2, 3, 4, - 2, 3, 4, 5, - 3, 4, 5, 6,  etc.

And the same back down - 8, 7, 6, 5, - 7, 6, 5, 4, - 6, 5, 4, 3, etc.

What ever you do do it slowly at first building on technique and let it grow from there.

Hey Mickey mate.

I've not heard of Alden but checked out their website. I guess that the Korean connection is Young Chang - they make guitars for loads of people including Charvel and Ibanez and I can vouch for their quality.

Go and try as many of the kind that you want that you can get your hands on, but don't prevent yourself being side tracked along the way.

Post a picture or a link of what you get.

Howay the lads! Cheers m8.

Hey lennycorn.

From what you've said it sounds like the lighter guage strings. Wood gets used to certain things- foces working on it in certain ways - and differences in these things will cause the wood to react differently.

New strings will create certain changes and with a guitar that's been in storage for a while I would change the strings as a matter of course. Did the guy in the shop talk you into having a lighter guage or did he just change them assuming that would be what wanted? Try changing back and sorting out any problems that that creates with regard to action and sound.

A lower action will result in a weedier sound and thinner strings can make a warm guitar sound tinny.

I think you should sort out the sound before buying a pick up for it.

Good luck and I hope you get it sorted. cool

Hey bswyers.

Great site, thanks for the hook-up! cool

Hey Crevs.1972.

Ditto what Arkady said (good on yer Arkady!)! cool

Unless you want to dive bomb, you will be able to get that electric feel from an Electro Acoustic. Anyway, look how many electric guitars don't come with a wammy bar (Les Paul anyone?) which is the only thing (sound wise) you might notice with an Electro Acoustic plugged in with some valve overdrive, chorus and delay compared to an electric! wink

Has anyone heard the version of "Like A Rollin' Stone" by Bob Dylan ...............in 3/4!!!!??????

I prefer it.

Thanks Pix!

I can see how the Flat is done; is the quarter sawn like 4 slices from a cake? How is the rift done?

Wood be good to see some of your non-instrument related stuff too!

It wood (boom, boom) be great to see some of your work Pix.

2 questions;

Is a dry sink something that accomplishes the same job as a regular sink but without the water?

And I realise it has something to do with wood, but what exactly is "quarter sewn hog?" Is it anything like lacewood?

Did you build that Pix??? yikes

Hey All1Song.

Just watched/listened to "Where Is Your Soul." Good stuff, your playing and singing are spot on.

One thing intended to help - your Mic placement could be improved. We all have to look at the fretboard from time to time to ensure we aren't going to play a bum note on a tricky change.

If the Mic was placed lower pointing up at the join between neck and guitar, it would be ideally situated for vox without having to look away from guitar.

I hope this is taken as a helpful suggestion rather than a crit because the overall quality (apart from the vox going quiet/loud/quiet (esp' near the beginning)) is broadcast.

Good on yer! cool

Longbow/Warbow Archery!

Very satisfying to see an arrow flying 100's of metres and know you put the power behind the spring.

Even better to hit the clout at distance or the Bull at the mark (best of all to split an arrow).

I appreciate Zurf's hobbies (step out the back door here and your almost in the wilds (if the UK has any "wilds")) and wish I was better at woodwork, badeye (great to have something that brings in bucks!); my attempts at watercolour aren't that great.

Hey aabb.

Looks like that is probably a "Yes!"

Go to http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/US600.aspx to see and hear all about it.

(I need shares in or a commission from Behringer!)

Hey G S E.

You're looking for a Pitch-Shifter.

Many multi-effects (FX) have a pitch shifter built in but I recommend getting a purpose-built device for a purposeful job. The Behringer Ultrashifter/Harmonist US6000 retails here @ around £39.59.
