Yea, I'm a little concerned about teaching 12 or more at one time.... Some already know a little and others are going to learn at different levels so it's going to be a challenge. The group class though is free to members (the church is paying me) and I'll be offering one on one lessons there on monday and tuesday nights for those that really take an intrest and want to advance ahead of the group.

Be sure to let us know....I'm assuming the first couple weeks will be rough on your ears but I'll guess the satisfaction you'll get when they can all play in unison will be hard to beat.

For me, it's the hot, eager, young (female) groupies that is the most essential part of my playing experience. I just can't wait until I they start showing up.

Nela

HaHa!!!!!! And you're sure they'll show right? I've been playing for 20 years or so...still waiting. I married the only groupie I ever had!

It's all about feel. If your guitar feels right...it is right. You'll know when you need a set up.

I have been using Clayton .80mm. not fancy just a white nylon pick. I mostly strum and it is firm enough if I do any picking.
I have also used a quarter (coin). I have thought of grinding a pick from a fity cent piece.

A quarter...for real. How many times a day do you change your strings?

I use the Dunlop Jazz3 picks (very thick) for lead and Tortex .50mm (small tear drop shape) for strumming

Sorry to hear about your "should've bought a townhouse" moment. If it's any comfort, we all have them at one point or another.

Geoaguiar,

Thanks for the tips. But a little while ago I raised my bridge up on my Gibson, since when I played notes on the heavy strings, the string would vibrate farther down the fretboard. I think it may be that I'm plucking too hard, so I figured that in order to get around this, I raised my bridge. But probably now, the strings are too high and thus requires more pressure to hold down the barre chords.

...WD

Yup. I have an acoustic with high action and that hurts after a bit. Also a neck that's too "thick" will do that. Try playing something different like a Telecaster and see if it's more comfortable. A well set up Tele is about as easy a player as there is.

Are you trying to squeeze them too hard? Eapecially if it's electric, it doesn't take much to get a clear sound. try backing off a bit and applying just enough pressure.

I have a Takamine EG561C betweeen 400-500 US $. I absolutely love it. I've had it about 5 years or so. It has a TK-4 pick up in it. Sounds great unplugged or plugged in. I haven't heard much bad about Takamine. I've played a 1/2 dozen. There all pretty fine. Try Alvarez too. Fantastic quality for the price

Damn...that's good. Your grandpa was a wise man. Thanks for he laugh.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to send them back as mp3's and Kap will have to import them back in. Another noteworthy item is to be mindful of the size of your tracks. Most email server will choke at between 6-10 MB's worth of attachments (not all but most). You'll more than likely have to send them separately. You may want to consider using mediafire or another file sharing site instead of using email (free). This way each of you can download mp3's into Audacity of virtually any size. This'll keep you from having to compromise quality to accommodate size restrictions.

I always say something along the lines of: "well, I could be spending this money at a bar; guitars keep me home and relatively healthy". I must admit, while I have 12 or so guitars my approach is not 100% effective especially on the more expensive models

Doc...I know it's hard but try a 2 week break then see if it's improved.
