My idea in general is very simple.
- IF I HAVE NO EXTRA MONEY ASIDE = no extras, like buying things or traveling.
- IF I HAVE ENOUGH MONEY ASIDE = I am able to spend money.
BELIEVE me, I've been in both.
I DON'T UNDERSTAND PEOPLE WHO ASK A LOAN TO GO ON HOLIDAY.
I don't say that they haven't right to go away, but as Doc, I have seen a lot. People having no money, but having expensive cell phones, plasmascreens.
I always paid my debts, this is the first year since 4 years that I go on holiday. Yes I have spend some time in France FOR FREE WITH MY BEST FRIENDS.
That is my philosophy.

I read a lot of topics, I try to improve my knowledge (3x more since chordie) in particular about guitars = I learned a lot (even today) and I try to do the best I can.
So: my question =
1) do you regret when YOU SELL ONE OF YOUR GUITARS OR GUITAR?
2) DO YOU REGRET THE PURCHASE, after playing that guitar in perfect shape?
I do.

I believe the plague is over and they start more to have their own websites example: 2 links.
http://cn.countrysearch.tradekey.com/gibson.htm
http://www.made-in-china.com/products-s … uitar.html
Some of these guitars are amazing, a great guitar body, and some are even more attractive then a genuine Gibson. I had one, but a friend wanted that guitar. She even sounded great but you had to take more distance from your amp to avoid "horrible noises" He phoned me, mailed me all to buy that Gibson AND THIS ONLY BECAUSE OF THE NAME + THE AUDIENCE SEEING HIM PLAY A "FOR HIM REAL GIBSON" and finally I sold her, repeating time after time that it was a fake. I had an 100$ profit and he, 2 years later is still happy. He replaced the pick ups by DiMarzio I think, and the noise was gone.
WHAT A FAMOUS BRAND CAN DO.

Re: PLAYING ELECTRIC WITHOUT NOISE (9 replies, posted in Electric)
Thanks guys. Dough life really sucks sometimes. I started to realize that "it was all over" at the Hooverdam I even wrote a song about it long time ago. Worse I knew the decision or verdict = STOP working. It is a public secret that I am probably the laziest man on earth. I really need a TABASCO SUPPOSITORY to see me in action. Once in action, I was invincible, I worked between 80-90 hours a day, which is really huge today. After my car crash, I started against advise
11 months later. I adore challenges and if you don't work a year try to get your patients back. 3 years later I had 25 patients again resulting in 80 hours again. I lost a lot of my time, because I had too much pain and I rested longer. Is it normal that people who are ill carry my material? So I had to stop because I was destroying my body. And there it is: I sit here at home day after day and grateful that I have a PC, a Flat screen and dvd's and GUITARS. Thes pandora devices are a blessing. You disturb nobody, and even funnier I have an output jack were you can plug in 2 earphones. The GERMANS have a name for a Gibson Les Paul = PAULA.
Detman, I wanted the same as you sell my PX4D to buy the PX5D who arrived the day before going to the hospital, so I have played both for 3-4 weeks. CONCLUSION: I STILL HAVE AND USE MY PX4D. If you buy the PX5D you get "ABLETON LITE" as extra bonus. I didn't use it yet.
AS SAID = both are so great and so many functions in particular the rhythm section allowing you to play like AC/DC and nobody will hear you.
If you don't need the money to buy the PX5D keep at least a time the PX4D.

Re: THE IMPORTANCE OF PICK-UPS (10 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I bought in January 2002 a set of guitars from a friend (he passed away 3 months ago), who was not only a fantastic guitar player, but who was already destroying his body since long.
- HIS LIFE TURNED AROUND ALCOHOL, and he was a kind of tramp, but a brilliant player, who played with big names. I paid 5000$ for a FENDER STRATOCASTER 1964 original, and the second was not the goldtop he told to sell me, but a 1968 GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM. I went to the guitar store and since I have a 1978 LP custom, I wanted to bring back the '68 to the beginning when they had P-90 pick ups (now P-94 to fit in the cavity). The sound? INCREDIBLE. PROBABLY BECAUSE I HAD 1 NECK P-94 and the HUMBUCKER on the bridge (Bridge 94 wasn't in stock)
I have the originals (PAF) in a box here. This guitar, I use it very rare, because too heavy.
SO BACK TO EMG
EMG-HZ/H4 set of pick-ups.
EMG 81 - 85 set of pick ups.
For me it is a mystery to hear the difference between EMG, DiMarzio. About the P-94 and Humbucker, I have 2 guitars with that combination: DUESENBERG 49er and Starplayer TV I have again that "unbelievable sound" with Neck = S and Bridge = H
ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF PICK UPS, I really wanted to know (are there studies about this?) if a blindfold man is able to hear the difference between a MIM and MIA Strat. Or an Epiphone LP Standard versus a Gibson LP Standard. I WROTE HEAR!!

THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME, so I want to know some extra information ABOUT SONGWRITING.
A) COMPACT FLASH RECORDING
1) You have lyrics + music = a song.
2) Let's keep it simple = ONLY THE MUSIC.
3) THAT TUNE YOU WROTE, YOU WANT THAT OTHER PEOPLE CAN LISTEN TO IT.
4) I HAVE A BOSS BR600 WITH COMPACT FLASH CARD (520Mb + 2Gb)
5) EVERYTHING GOES WELL and you put your COMPACT FLASH IN YOUR PC.
6) Nothing happens, and all the music you recorded is .BRO
7) WHAT IS .BRO? Do you need to readapt your CF card?
B) CAN I PLUG IN MY GUITAR IN MY PC? And if yes:
1) WHAT DO I NEED TO PLUG MY GUITAR IN MY PC?
2) ARE THERE SPECIAL "CABLES"to use?
3) IF YES, CAN SOMEONE SHOW ME A PICTURE WITH THE "MATERIAL" YOU USE TO CONNECT YOUR GUITAR ON YOUR PC?
4) I BELIEVE THAT'S ALL.

About 2 years ago, there was a GIBSON plague on the internet.
You could buy the so called real "GIBSON"for 2$ and 205$ TRANSPORT. Amazing, and I ordered one. A few weeks later she arrived at my place.
- Quality = not bad. An AAAA top, a real beautiful guitar, one of the most perfect top, only to compare with a GIBSON LES PAUL SUPREME, talking about looks.
- Playing = not that good having a buzz sound coming out of my amp.
- Satisfaction = 50%.
- I see that the prices are going up from 1$ over 50$ and over 200-300$. Most of these guitars were for sale between 1$ and 100$, a price who is a lot higher.
- I wanted to keep that guitar, transport included 251$, and change the pick ups by EMG. An acquaintance wanted that guitar, even after telling him that that guitar was from China. He gave me 400$ for it, he wanted to pay up to 750$, and he sais that it is the best guitar he ever got, after changing the humbuckers and replace them by EMG'S I must admit for a 1$ guitar, the sound was great.

GSJWINTON, thanks for the link. I have plenty of time, but sitting here is even very painful. Everytime I promess to less complicated topics, I find other great topics, and following the link, is the place where I started.
JAYGORDON, you write exactly what I was thinking, probably "cyber telepathy"
I answered already a few days ago, and often people who start to replace pick ups, tuners, it will cost you at least 200$ extra
Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-II Electric Guitar Overall Rating: 9.31 + pricetag = $749.00. I picked this guitar because she looks great and here a link:
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod … sku=515624
Take an Epiphone LP Custom, and you pay online 699$ or MSRP: $1,214.00(in a real guitar store
You can't tell that this is a cheap guitar. Changing pickups on your epihone is not that cheap either. EXAMPLE = Gibson humbuckers, you want to use on your guitar: Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickups = online 110$ and MSRP = 135$ X 2. Most of us can't change their guitar, resulting in work for a luthier, who as to earn money as well, so combine all these factors and your Epi will have a price tag between 1000-1100$ I am following my instincts and go to GIBSON. A Gibson LP Studio = 799$
I believe that the "gap" between EPIPHONE and GIBSON is getting smaller.
MSRP

Topic: PLAYING ELECTRIC WITHOUT NOISE (9 replies, posted in Electric)
I probably mentioned it already.
I was in hospital twice in 2008. The first time I brought my acoustic, the "famous Martin D45V.
I was staying on the NEUROLOGY department. Most of the people there were old, demented, or another neurological problem. Even with my door closed they could hear what I played.
So tje next period in hospital (September 2008), I had my favorite electric guitar, my Duesenberg 49er, AND a brandnew device: Korg Pandora PX4D + his successor the PX5D. I wanted to sell the PX4D, but the difference in tonality and possibilities were to important.
A headphone, input: guitar and output to headphones. I swear that, and even more important, nobody can hear you, and me: just following the rhythm. This little device improved my skills a lot, since I play alone which don't make it easy to follow rhythm. These 2 pandoras made me a happy child, all the possibilities from acoustic to wah-waj and distortion. Changing amps, rhythm.........
I believe that this combination, and the silence, your skills to play will improve 50% using it on regular base = playing 30 - 60 minutes every day, that you can say: now I am a decent player.
I wander where it ends, WHEN CAN YOU SAY THE WORDS I AM A GOOD GUITARIST? Because I believe that you always want to improve. I play 30 years now (32 to be exact) and I think that I will never use that phrase, even when you play in front of some friends who are amazed and the congratulations they say. IS IT REALLY IMPORTANT when you know that you will never perform?

Re: THE IMPORTANCE OF PICK-UPS (10 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Well Jaygordon, I was thinking exact like you.
As far as I know, only ONE guitar is worth = and NOT A MUST to change pick ups.
Why does the man have 2 Gibson LP, equipped with EMG.
The "Zakk Wylde" EPIPHONE IS ALSO equipped with EMG pick ups. If I should buy this one, the offs are 75% that I replace them by those from the Gibson with bull's eye.
WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS MAN? I know him because I found him in the standard, custom Gibsons, and again in the Epiphone section. I looked for him on "wikipedia" but I don't understand why he seems to be so popular.2 GIBSON CUSTOMS FOR ZAKK. EMG humbucking pickups an 81 and 85 and if this isn't already enough, here another one Gibson Custom Limited Run Zakk Wylde Bullseye Aged Les Paul Electric Guitar = 8000$ on line, but MSRP 12.000$
Epiphone Zakk Wylde Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar Bulls-EyeOverall: 9,2/10 = very good comment. Price = 799$ and MRSP = 1300$ (the first on line, the second price in a regular store.
Equipped with 2 USA EMG-HZ/H4 pickups. WILL THERE BE A "SIGNIFICANT" DIFFERENCE IF YOU REPLACE THE EPI PICKUPS BY GIBSON EMG 81+85.
It was really difficult to write this, are there chordians who replaced (probably on every Epiphone) the regular humbuckers by EMG 81+85 pickups.
WHY IS THAT MAN SO FAMOUS TO GET 3 DIFFERENT GUITARS

Topic: THE IMPORTANCE OF PICK-UPS (10 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
There are many different electric guitars on the market, so I decided to make it easier and to write my questions more limited.
To be honest there are less complicated topics, but I find it interesting for PERSONAL reasons, and for ALL THE PEOPLE HERE WHO CHANGE the original pick-ups by other pick ups.
Quit often you read that epiphone pick-ups are replaced by gibson pu's. Is it worth to do this?
- Seymour Duncan, Fralin, EMG's. Are they really worth to change an original by these pu's?
The MAGNETS? What is their contribution?
A good luthier will have a device that measures the output.
WHAT ABOUT THE ALNICO pick ups? WILL THE GUITAR SOUND DIFFERENT IF YOU replace THE NECK PU BY THE BRIDGE PU?
- What is an active pick up versus a passive pick up?
- What is the real difference between a MIM Fender and a MIA Fender pick ups? Are they really different?
- What about the Gibson pick ups? They started with single coils P-90, followed by PAF, or '57 classic humbuckers, and the HB+'57. Burstbuckers.
I really have no clue about all the different Gibson pick-ups, and Fender.
This is maybe written in a complicated style, it is because I want to know the "impact" of a pick-up on an electric guitar.

I, being Flemish, always thought that this was a 100% meaningless word.
WELL IT ISN'T.
It is probably the most inventive word and a difficult one too.
source (wipedia), sais it means approximately this:
"what you say when you don't know what to say"
super- "above",
cali- "beauty",
fragilistic- "delicate",
expiali- "to atone",
docious- "educable", with the sum of these parts signifying roughly
And the sum of these parts should be: Atoning for educability through delicate beauty.
This is what music greats, and the word SUPERCALIFRAGLOSTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS, is really burned in the collective memory. Who hasn't see, the movie, heard the melodies and songs of "MARY POPPINS" or "THE SOUND OF MUSIC" (that movie is broadcasted every Christmas.

It is again a kind of "word game", again in French. I am FLEMISH and there is a lot of discussion about Flemish versus FRENCH.
For the CANADIANS: IS IT TRUE THAT THERE IS A "LINGUISTIC POLICE" in Montreal and Quebec? I hope you enjoy this kinds of poems, tale a dictionary French - English, or on line maybe. I have fun, a lot of fun, but I had to remove a lot of words, et comme !a c'est feniale.

Re: La douce France (10 replies, posted in Poems)
mrjay, first thanks a lot, and being a simple "Flemish" man, NOT DUTCH, I don't know why but DUTCH reverse to our neighbours in the North: THE NETHERLANDS. I speak 3 languages fluently, without translating in my head, and GERMAN, ITALIAN too. My sister lives in BERLIN, in a beautiful apartment, sorry a DUPLEX. Personally, I don't like that language, it is a little bit like Hitler speaking, better, it is as if they are in command. When she is here, with her husband who is from Mauritius but they lived in London, and you ask a question, the language is really hard, as if she is mad at me. French is a lot more melodic, only "over ruled" by Italian. When they speak they use a lot of body language, and they speak very melodic.
Since French is my second language, there will be soon other poems in French. My poems are "instant" poems, and playing with words, silly words.
As I am moderating this with my friend Jerome, I really want to see more poems in other languages, like Spanish, German, and marcalan, you have also a point. When I write another poem in French I will try to translate it, but than you loose the "character" of that poem.
I'm busy with some poems, many poems is more accurate.

Re: hallucination or not about EPIPHONE (7 replies, posted in Electric)
Agree Drake, but the situation with Fender is different. They have:
1) FENDER STRATOCASTER OR TELECASTER MADE IN AMERICA (MIA)
2) FENDER STRATOCASTER AND TELECASTER MIM (Made in Mexico), and THIS CATEGORY IS GETTING HIGHER IN PRICE.
3) SQUIER STRATOCASTER AND TELECASTER, the price is maybe higher than 2 years ago.
So, I am not the only one who noticed that the EPIPHONE LES PAUL category is starting to become more a "quality" brand. Due to my condition I have time, time and time to look what is going on in GUITARLAND.
Go and visit an online music store, and see for yourselves. Another important thing is, when reading the comments, that at least 75% writes that the difference between a GIBSON LP versus an EPIPHONE LP, is not that big anymore.
ATTENTION! In an online store their prices are a lot cheaper then in a regular music store.
Here a link and see for yourselves what I try to tell.
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/navi … amp;rpp=60
LOOK AT THE REGULAR RETAIL PRICES: 500$ = 830$ in a regular store.
These guitars are still affordable, but the price is going up very fast.

Whoa black betty bmb-a lam.
This is a fantastic cover by BLACK BETTY. The original song is by HUDDIE LEDBETTER, aka LEADBELLY , like topdown wrote.
I possible know 100 songs, one of the most dramatic songs + cover is: WITHOUT YOU by BADFINGER. The 2 who wrote that song end 1969 have committed suicide. One man, a singer became huge with that cover: Harry Nilsson (a lot of passion in the song), also Mariah Carey (no passion in the song), Badfinger: a song to forget asap, a simple pop tune. So my list =
- Leadbelly black betty
- Without you
- Proud Mary the Ike & Tina version
- All along the watchtower.
BETTER TO WRITE IS THAT IN THE 60ties YOU HAD "COVERITIS" WHO WROTE: Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Beatles to much very good covers to mention.

Topic: Probably this question is asked, about the quality & specs of an amp (2 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Years ago buying a guitar and an amp wasn't that complicated as today.
- GIBSON CHOICE = Standard, Custom, and an SG
- FENDER CHOICE = Stratocaster and Telecaster
I am going back in time 30 years and here in EUROPE.
No Zakk Wyldes, Slash, only these brands.
MY ALZHEIMER causes probably some other fine guitars, and fascinated by a real Fender or Gibson, what a dream. No $$$ so my first was a Yamaha Acoustic FG 300
But my dream was to own a Gibson, and thanks to a friend working as boss at the customs I got my very first Gibson LP Studio.
The same guy was responsible for my first amp, a Marshall Valvestate 100W.
Later, having more money, I was able to buy a dream amp (MY dream amp) a Fender Cybertwin 130W (2x65W) a real monster, also a hybrid one, tubes and digital. See picture
And 7 years ago an acoustic Marshall 100W and tubes.
MY QUESTION IS, ONLY ABOUT A COMBO:
- Which amp is better: a valve amp or a tube amp?
- The Cybertwin has both, a tube pre-amp, and an amazing piece of art. I compared it several times with classic Fender amps (Twin, Bassman...) and there was no difference in sound.
- today, thanks to Line 6, there are a lot of modelling amps, but
- what about the good old TUBE AMP? Is there a revival?
- There are a lot of pro's and con's concerning both types of amps, so I will be a happy man if I get answers, from guitar players who perform, or who have a home studio.

Topic: hallucination or not about EPIPHONE (7 replies, posted in Electric)
As most of you know I surf a lot to see what's going on in guitar world.
A question about the good old EPIPHONE LP Standard or Custom:
- Am I dreaming or did the retail price is at least 50% higher than 2 years ago.
I know that they were really affordable guitars, not to cheap, but not to expensive. The retail price, in a real guitar store is now often between 600$ - 900$, almost twice the price than in 2007.
In online stores you pay 350$-600$.
IS THIS CORRECT, and if so, (I read more and more good critics), an Epiphone today starts more and more living on it's own, meaning that the GIBSON link is becoming smaller, a few years ago it was like a cheap Gibson, but today it is more and more a brand on his own.
I really don't know if this is an understatement so is there someone who agrees or disagrees.

Re: Les Pauls classic standard custom studio which is best? (4 replies, posted in Electric)
This is a difficult question indeed. THE MAJOR PROBLEM ARE THE DOZENS REISSUE & TRIBUTE guitars. I will try to look for more info on the net, NO REISSUES OR ZAKK WYLDE stuff. First the pick-ups. T = Treble and R = Rhythm
1) GIBSON LES PAUL STANDARD:
# Burstbucker Pro I humbucker with alnico magnet at the neck
# Burstbucker Pro II humbucker with alnico magnet at the bridge and a link to compare.
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod … sku=519336
2) GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM:
490R Humbucker
498T Humbucker
3) GIBSON LES PAUL SUPREME
The guitar weighs between 8-16 ounces less than a standard Les Paul.
490R
498T alnico humbucking pickups
4) GIBSON LES PAUL STUDIO
- 490R = neck
- 490T = Bridge or, most have (and this is what I don't understand), a 498T, providing a higher output and emphasis on mid-ranges and highs make the 498T the perfect rock lead pickup for the Les Paul Studio. Link
http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Ba … rdware/6XK
If you just look at the pick-ups they are the same as on the LP Supreme. The difference in price is that the studio is really nice, but also made without all that fancy, mostly useless stuff.
But there is a big difference even with the same kind of pick-ups
5) GIBSON LES PAUL CLASSIC
This is a guitar I never could pmace in the Gibson les paul series. I also believe that this model is not longer in production.
- # 496R ceramic humbucker neck
- # 500T at the bridge a link:
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod … sku=512001
I hope you can use this information.
A personal notice: I should never have sold my Standard (1978) and a custom is really heavy.
But since it is impossible for me to stand right to play guitar, I don't care.

- a junkie asking me 750$ for his Martin HD-28, he needed that money fast, no loan, so that was my second acoustic (first was Yamaha in 1978)
- my first electric was a beautiful black gibson LP studio, right from the customs, a patient + good friend was chief = 500$.
- I went to a music store with a friend, we tried out a lot of guitars, among them a PRS Custom 24, 6 months old. I sold my Gibson for 1000$, and so I lost (only) 200$ because that PRS was half price. Here she is:

My system is = WHAT KIND, EVEN BRAND YOU WANT? GO TO AN ON LINE SHOP LIKE www.musiciansfriend.com.
You will find easy a guitar that you like. THE PRICE? Easier to compare the guitar you want, using a minimum and maximum.
GO TO YOUTUBE, write the guitar you like and depending on the quality of the video, you see it in action. If possible go to a store, and if you see that in the store a Fender Stratocaster MIA is 500$ more expensive than on the on-line stores, go for it.

StranSongs, until 1830 Flanders, had a huge coastline.
From France (at least 200 km, Belgium + shore and The Netherlands.
All merchandise like spices, were on the hand of the Dutch. England was afraid and started to colonize countries like India, China and more. In fact the English people were known for their urge to possess. But to answer your question, the situation is similar with Switzerland: they speak French, German, Italian and a dialect Suisse - language.
Belgium, especially the Walloons and Flanders and a part is German speaking = Belgium. It gets even more complicated BRUSSELS, capital of Europe, is also recognized as a district. All 4 have a government, and then you have a federal government.
A Walloon's, official language is French, but if they speak there Walloon language, I will not understand a word.

In the USA, if it should be a 50 years patent, you can start using songs of Buddy Holly.
