thanks for all your very positive comments. sorry i've been so busy the last 2 weeks that i haven't had much chance to get on line and do all the things i want to.

just to say though, it's my pleasure to work with mr harding, i can just throw him a couple of jumbled up chords and back he comes with an instrumental break that'll make hank marvin tremble in his hush puppies.

before i go i'd just like to say that it's such a privilege working with such fine writers and musicians, something i'd never have been able to do without chordie or the internet.

Here's another one dedicated to our men and women serving abroad.

Welcome Home The Hero's.

Phill Williams. 28th February 2010.

Through the darkest dark, the coldest cold.
The hero's march, both stern and bold.
No lesser men could rise this high.
Their duty clear; to do or die.

Life is dear to all who live.
Life is all some have to give.
Give not your life in senseless rage.
For another's cause who lives on, safe.
To take the lives of innocents.
Women, children, non-combatants.

And so the hero's through the dark.
Stealthy shadows, silent walk.
To take one life to save so many.
Who'll give his life to kill so many.

And yet the oppressed do not cheer.
Do not celebrate life without fear.
All their work their sacrifice.
As dust in the breeze, a torch in daylight.

But they wont give-up, wont turn and run.
No fear of fools, of madmen with guns.
Sometimes let down by their own countrymen.
Don't sneer in his face, don't deride what he's done.
For the next life he saves may be yours...
Cry “FREEDOM .
Cheer loud.
Applaud the parade.
Welcome home the hero's.
Give thanks for what they've saved.

i've had the same problems with d`adario's myself. i changed the set hoping that it was just a bad set, but the replacement set are doing the same. i've put some good old rotosound on my acoustic which have a lovely tone, so i'm gonna give them a go next time, i do use a .009 to .042 set, which are quite light, but i need them as i do a lot of bending during gigs, (i find ernie balls too bendy). so the only advice i can give is try a different make.

hi ark, you could be on to something, as it seems more and more popular for members to add their songs on video. it's a lot less fuss than recording then transferring to MP3 then up-loading when most computers will record a song while you play it...simples!

hi bud-wiser, your wish is my command, words duly up-loaded, let me know how you get on?

hi stransongs,  OK THEN I'LL SHOUT...only joking, words are up here somewhere.

hi russel,  crock rock was recorded in benidrom, spain last october by my son, who thought he was taking a photo on my sony stills camera! that's when i found out it takes video too. glad you liked my other offerings.

I wrote and recorded this in the key of F, using a capo on the 5th frett. I have transposed it to C for ease of play, as not everyone sings in the same key.

Second Substitute.Undefined

[C] Am I [Cmaj7] invisible? You [Fmaj7] know I'm standing [Fmaj7add 9] here.

[C] Your talking [Cmaj7] about me, you must [Fmj7] know that I can [Fmj7add9] hear.

[Em] I know I'm not [Am] important, in the [Fmj7] greater scheme of [D7] life.

And I'm [Fmj7] 2nd [C] substitute.

Your, [Fmj7] sun to [C] fight the blues.

While, [Fmj7] I keep [C] you amused, as [D7] long as we're [Fmj7] alone.

Position impossible, I can't stay where I'm abused.

Am I your chimpanzee to keep your friends amused?

My feelings aren't important in your self-important life.

And I'm, 2nd substitute.

Your, sun to fight the blues.

While, I keep you amused, as long as we're alone.

(CHORUS)

But it's, [Am] all change when [D7] we are all alone.

Your a [Am] different girl when [D7] all your friends have gone.

And it's just [Am] you and me and [D7] I'm the one you want.

[Em] I keep forgetting that your [Fmj7] such a brat.

[Em] I keep forgetting thatyou [D7] can be like [Fmj7]that.

Sometimes you call me up, come on I need you here.

Then you will knock me back, when your friends are standing near.

You run me down to them until they've disappeared.

And I'm, 2nd substitute.

Your, sun to fight the blues.

While, I keep you amused, as long as we're alone.

(REPEAT CHORUS) > SOLO OVER VERSE)

And I'm, [Fmj7] 2nd [C] substitute.

Your, [Fmj7] sun to [C] fight the blues.

While, [Fmj7] I keep [C] you amused, as [D7] long as we're [Fmj7] alone.

Words & Music by Phill Williams. 17th February 2010.

The Fmj7 add 9 is simply an F chord, with no barre (top and bottom E strings left open, then remove middle finger to play the open G string.

Abbey Road studio's are obviously worth saving, but a cost of £30 million + is licking the gravy train somewhat, dont you think?
As all these multi-national conglomerates can buy out British businesses, asset strip them and throw all the skilled and experienced people out of work, so they can make more profit for the already mega-bucked investors, by opening another factory somewhere that the wages are paid in peanuts, is not only a disgusting practice but should be a criminal offence. Who wins from this kind of business practice...bankers, and the aforementioned investors...may they burn in the ashes of their own profits. As has happened in the North East this week, and all over the country for some years! It brings it all into perspective?
As for Abbey Road, (it was only a small rant) as Lloyd-Webber says, it's one of the only places in the country that can house a large orchestra (Hey Jude) it can update to accommodate the latest recording equipment, and as proved recently, can hold a small audience while a live TV or radio programme can be made.
The company who bought out EMI, are up to their necks in debt, and are using the name, made famous by The Beatles, Pink Floyd and others to get themselves out of trouble, so will push to get the best deal. I suppose we would all do the same in their position?
As a PS, I dont suppose a housing estate would have the same draw, or the same romance as a world famous recording studio?

Every one seems to be making vids lately, so I've made one of a new song called "second Substitute" and a totally unrelated song called "With you my Love " sans video. Both can be found on My Space, just hit the button to your left marked web. thanks for listening and watching. chords and words will be up-loaded if requested.

This is a continuation of a song theme "Good Men Of God"

She Fly's A Flag Out-Side Her Home. Phill Williams 18/02/10

A flag is flying caught by the breeze.
It snaps and cracks and flutters, free.
Not like the wife that suffers here.
Waiting for the visit home.
She makes the bed.
She washes clothes.
She makes her way to the corner store.
Meals for one.
Tears for sure.
Whether he still breathes when he gets home.
Till then she waits, with the wife next door.

She fly's her flag defiantly.
Some hoodies pass and sneer and jeer.
“Learn some respect you pathetic louts.
My husband fights to save your life.
She paints the rooms.
Mows the lawn.
Candle light until it's dawn.
Wash the floors.
Watch TV.
Jumps at each knock on the front door.
Dreads who's calling, good news she hopes.

So she fly's her flag out-side her home.

wow, powerful piece my friend.

i've tried on occasion to write about wife-beaters and abusers, but i haven't managed to hit the spot like you have here, so well done.

my wife was abused by her first husband, and oddly enough most of the girls i went out with before we met, no wonder they all wanted to marry me.

there must be something about boring that is attractive after a beating!

i'd rather be boring, in fact i'm proud of it!

i like this well done....i'd like it more if i could hear it...

thanks for all the great remarks,

lena, i had a quick look at the link you show but i dont see a way to up-load the song or just the words as a poem. if you know how maybe you could do it for me or let me know how to do it, as i'd like to do something for our guys.

hi kenny, you know how to flatter a man, if only i could sound like lennon! thanks and nice to hear from you.

hi ark, i detest war, but i feel i must give my support to our people out there risking their lives for the sake of freedom, the afghans and ours.

hi dino, i'm with you there, a rock and folk contest to decide the fate of the world. done many to decide the fate of the band i was playing in, most kicked me out after!

thanks russ, i agree with you there, i'd love to see bin laden out there looking for land mines!

hi stransongs, i've always believed that god is good. why would any kind of higher being want his creation killing each other? the dig here is at the so-called mullahs that promise these easily led guys to blow themselves up with as many innocents as possible, women and children included, which is why the title has a question mark...? good men of god?...dont think so somehow.

hi seriousfun, i like your word play; "moving picture" as in movie or moving as in thought provoking.
thanks for your thumbs up

this came to me tonight as i was getting ready to pack-up for the night.

the big push in afghanistan is on my mind, and the news reports about the families left behind hoping, waiting and praying for their young people.

the good men of god? yes a question mark, how could a truly godly person send good young men and women to die in the name of god? a contradiction in terms.

the song is up on my-space, read the words and i hope you can see the meaning and what it's about.

this isnt in praise of any deity, far from it, i was thinking about our servicemen out in afganistan, and how the families are feeling knowing that there's a big operation going on. this is a tribute to our boys and their families waiting.

i've just re-strung the guitar and i think it was a string fault. so i've dumped the strings and the new set seem to be holding their tune....so far.  thanks for all the help and suggestions

phill

bonedaddy mentions B7th as a chord to watch out for...why? there are several ways to play every chord all a player needs to do is find them, then the easiest one and finally the one that sounds best for the piece they're playing. it all comes with time, experience and practice. a lot of people get problems with "B minor", i don't understand why, it's just A minor up two frets with a barre!

icecubetray3pack mentions "A" chord shape, here's a tip and i know a lot of players use it, instead of using 3 fingers to play "A", use just one across all 3 strings. it will take a bit of practice, but once you get it it will help with barre chords, and your half way there to play "F sharp minor", (as used in Pretty Woman). as for muting strings, well you'll get that, sometimes it even adds to the effect.

try playing "F" without barring at all, don't play the bottom E string, but play the top E, it gives you "F major 7th", and fills in the sound and gives an extra dimension...i often play "G" the same way, it will give you "G6th" try it.

thanks guys,

i re-strung the guitar about 4 gigs ago (i only change them when they lose tone...i'm very tight!)
funny part is that the thin strings de-tune, and the thick strings sharpen!

i said in the original question that they were "Ashton" strings, my apologies to Ashton as they were in fact D'Addario. i re-strung the guitar today hopefully rectifying the problem.

hi henryb, i've got a 1972 fender strat that has never been serviced since new...no probs there. all i've changed are strings and a little grease on the machine heads.

thanks all advice is gratefully recieved

phill

i've been playing barre chords for 40 years now (up-to 4 hours a night) and i've never suffered with cramp, except once when i got it between my thumb and forefinger (after i got hit by another guitarist as we passed on stage!)
i've always used the forefinger to barre, sometimes i leave the top string out it depends if i need the bass note. i cant get my thumb around to hold the E string anyway!
capo's are good, but they make you lazy. i only use one for tonal effect.

Ahhhh!

You have such a way with words. A touching story, and an all too familiar one I'm afraid. It's not just the girls who got cheated on, I went out with several two-timers (may their thongs cut into their bums) Good old days though, weren't they?
I always preferred "With a Girl Like You" to "Wild Thing" or "Love is all Around" myself.

This is a well written account of a true event, condensed into a few short verses. I hope his needle broke, and all his records got scratched! how's that eh?
