I also thought Dondra and yourself sounded rather upbeat and positive. I'm so sorry to hear about your latest setback. My best wishes to you both, and thank you for including me in the poster.

When we meet in the local pub for a mess around we do pass the guitars, or sometimes guitar around. I dont mind as long as the person using it treats it with respect and knows how to play. Pete Townshend has never been in our pub, but the answer would be no.

Best Wishes to everyone from your friends here in the Pacific Northwest!! Where the sun is shining, trees are shedding Fall Colours, the bird is filling the house with welcoming aromas (cooking that is), and tonight it will be down around -3c (25f for we Colonists).
Enjoy the day, your families, friends, and above all be safe out there if you are traveling.
Hi everyone from across the pond. I hope you all had a great thanksgiving.
Just one small point. Doug, I see your spelling of colours is the same as ours this side of the pond! I did'nt think you used the u.

Dear Santa
I haven't done anything bad this year, I just did everything badly.
could you please send me another brain cell to keep the one I already have company?
That way I may be able to play my guitar & mouth organ at the same time.

This sounds like a plan Zurf. The problem I have these days is, I learn 1 song and forget 2. So after a couple of months I'll be back to knowing nothing.

It's not so much not wanting to play, my practicing tends to be in short bursts when I get a bit of spare time. But every now and again I have to stop and listen to how I'm playing, I find it very easy to develop bad habits, many of which we've discussed on these pages. Then it's time to pretty well start from scratch and try to discipline myself and get shut of the gremlins. Then after a while they slowly creep up on me again, it's a never ending cycle.

Re: Stupid Question. Maybe Personal. (20 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I usually hover around a guitar I like, keep calling back to the shop to have another look. I'm the one who always thinks do I need another guitar, no. Do I want another guitar, yes. It's the missus who pushes me into buying another, telling me, if you want it get it, you work for it. It was in fact me who walked away from the last guitar I fancied. A big, bright beautiful National. Not just a guitar but also a work of art. Far to classy for me to mess up. The missus has even offered to give me some money towards it, and of course Christmas is coming. I wonder if Santa could get it down the chimney without scratching it.

I wish I could play every song with barres. Is such a thing even possible, Bryan?
Bill
I tend to find things not to bad on my steel strung acoustic if I dont get to ambitious. Now the 12er and the nylon strung are a different matter. The fretboards are to wide and the neck to thick, I find they're best played using a capo and playing open chords.

Re: Help with Barre form (15 replies, posted in Acoustic)
One thing I find very important is posture. If you're seated don't arch your back and turn your guitar upwards so you're looking at the fretboard. Twisting your wrist round will make your index finger mute the B string. I am very guilty of the same thing. Sit or stand straight with the guitar flat to your body. Also hold the guitar at a comfortable angle so your hand and fingers can work the fretboard freely. One thing I try when practicing is to play a song, then midway through just stop, and play whatever chord you're holding one string at a time to see if they're clear or if you're muting any.

Well thats great news, I wish you a speedy recovery Dondra and look forward to seeing you posting here on Chordie. For me here in England its difficult to believe that important possibly life saving surgery all depends on insurance. Like T F, we pay a national insurance as part of our taxes, and for that we get sick pay when off work, hospital treatment when necessary, and a pension when we get old.
As much as I moan about it, maybe the UK isn't such a bad place.

Re: Bringing Back An "Oldie Subject" (12 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
What can you say about an artist such as Mr Orbison. If songs were paintings he would have been Leonardo da Vinci. A man who lost everything dear to him but still stood out like a beacon in the night. Only he could stand motionless on a stage and captive an audience with just a few simple songs and that totally unique voice. Over the years I have seen many tribute acts doing a good impersonation of such as Elvis, Dylan, Young etc, but never one that comes close to matching the vocal range of Mr Orbison.
Roy may be gone but I'm sure his music will be around for many years to come.

George (Home Sweet)I know a lot ofmembers from the U.K. could not get Beatlles songs ,something too do with the copyright or some thing like that.
Odd really, I can get Beatles songs from other sites but not from Chordie.

Re: $25 amp (31 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Zurf, I have the same amp. Can't remember where it came from or how much it cost, but I've had it many years. It doesn't get used to much these days as I prefer acoustics. Sometimes I'll play it using headphones, or if the missus goes out for a few hours I like to make a bit of noise. Its a great little tool and will give you years of good service, and at that price how can you go wrong.
