Pete, I think my answer was "Really" ? But I think your answer was better. Wayyyyyy more fun to watch what they'd do after hearing that.

One of the dumbest questions I've heard asked . Do these stairs go up or down ?

Update on my Taylor 314. I went to the Taylor Road Show last night in a nearby town. I showed
my guitar to the Taylor tech. He was very sympathetic for me. But he said he thought it would need a neck replacement. He took some photo's and sent them to a repair tech at Taylor. I'm waiting to hear back from them. I did some pricing by a local Taylor authorizied repair shop and a neck replacement is a little pricey. Maybe Taylor will have some good news for me.

I was playing a local Apple Fest today. We were outside and it was fairly windy. The wind blue my Taylor 314 down off the stand onto the concret. When I looked it over I noticed the heel of the neck was cracked straight through. Man , I am heartbroken. This guitar was one of those great sounding special guitars. Shortly after , it happened to my Taylor T5 also but it came through OK. Not a good day for me today. I'll be contacting Taylor this week to see what I can do for my good buddy.

Joey, Why do so many musicians have to have BIG Ego's ? Make it fun. I agree with Zurf give it a try.
Joe
Pete,
I use Elixers mostly. I did try the Curt Mangan strings and I like them also. Didn't know anyone else used Mangan strings. They were new to me. A lot of people don't like the coated strings ,they say you don't get the sound like uncoated. To me they sound great on my Martins and Taylors. Plus to me the new sound stays much longer. It's all I use now.

Wayne, got any new videos ?

GE,
I'm going thru tendonitius in my left hand, mostly thumb area. Very painful as you said. I played Fri. and Sat nights july thru aug. and now have some time off. My friend in the health field has been helping me out.Your therapist will lead you to the right outcome. Here's a couple things that are working for me . Cold pack right after direct use of left hand , followed by heat. 15-20 minutes each. Then repeat heat later. I also purchased an Ace brand Thumb Stabilizing brace. It keeps you from over working your thumb. I've also slowed down as much use of my left hand as possible. Mine is feeling much better in the last week. But as you were most likely told this can take a long time to heal. Advil was also advised if you can use it.
I hope this helps a little and good luck.

I just found out Joe South passed away at age 72. During the late 60's and early 70's he wrote and performed some pretty cool songs. I remember seeing him on more than a few music variety shows. He was a great songwriter as well as guitarist. RIP.
Joe
Thanks guys.
Joe
Zurf,
Great analogy. It's all anbout having fun with a song.

I play a lot of solo gigs with acoustic guitar. I use mostly reverb and some times chorus. Does anyone else use effects ? What do you use and why ?
I think Top and Joey got it right, Play it the way you feel it. You are almost never going to play it like the original and maybe not the same way twice. I've been playing out for years as a solo performer. Each night and each crowd will affect your performance, even your own mood. Make the song your own ,people will enjoy you for who you are and what you bring to a particular song. If you try to play an original just as it was recorded than you'll be judged by that original. If you make it your own you can change it up as long as most people still connect with the song you'll be OK.I don't play the same song the same way every time because I don't fell the same every day. I've had people tell me they liked my version of a song better than the original. That's a great compliment. Play it as you fell it.
Joe
Willie played the best show I've ever seen. He did 2 hours came back did a solo then brought the band back for another half an hour. He really loves his fans. Best wishes to The Red Headed Stranger !!!
Joe
I agree with Russell. The guy asked you to play ,he for sure likes what he hears from you. Don't change a thing but maybe add a few softer tunes. Don't think of it as a job just because you are getting paid. Go in with confidence that what you do is enjoyed by the bar manager. Enjoy this experience. One last thing, when you get there sit down and play like no one is watching and rock there socks off. I have confidence you can !!!!
Joe
Bummer, A new guitar would have been waaaaay more fun.
Joe
Badeye, Happy anniversary and many more. Also Happy Fathers Day to all the Fathers out there in ChordieLand !!!!!!!

Bobwill, Wayne is correct on the neck finish on the Martins. I have a D-41 and a D-35 and really love them, but the neck finish does cause the sticking issue. I know it's something Martin has done for years but they should look into trying some other options. I know you can keep a rag with poloish handy that will eliminate some of the sticky feel but not all. I know when you sweat a little that causes the most drag on the neck. Anyway don't let that deter you from a great instrument.
Joe
Russell, What a bummer. I use velcro to attach many of the gadgets I need . Works well for me.
I give you an A Plus for admitting what you did . Most of us would have wanted to keep that hidden. Good Luck.
Joe
Mine was June 7, just celebrated with the kids last night . Went out for dinner and had a couple frosty Killian Reds, Ahhhhhh. Haven't had one of those in a long time. Get to do this again on the 17th for my oldest daughter. Happy B-day to all those with June B-days.
Joe
My b-day was yesterday and today is gonna be Beerfriday.
Joe
RIP Doc Watson. I got them Deep River Blues.

Wow , Amazing song . Ian is a master at relating life in a song. Anyone who's ever owned a good horse can sure enough relate to this song. I can play many of Ian's songs but sorry I don't know this one. This is the first I've heard it. He's my all time favorite.
Gary McMahan has a great song about an ex- rodeo horse it's called Skeeter. I can't find a video but it's on his Saddle 'em up and Go album.
I hope you can get this one worked out.
Joe
Happy B-day Bob. Too many songs to pick a favorite. He inspired so many of us to be songwriters. Moss doesn't grow on a rolling stone.
Joe
RIP Robin. A great voice. I remember listening to the Bee Gee's when I was younger. One of my first favorite groups. They took a lot of flack when they got into the disco music but it was very popular with listeners. Hey , they were a talented family.
