I love good rock and blues guitar electric, but I play Acoustic and would always rather mic it as well as plug it in!

I might buy an electric if I came into lotsa lucre, probably one of those new Moogs! cool

I've said on previous posts that I'm rather new to a lot of IT (except Audio, which, where I'm no slouch, I'm not Einstein and have a lot to learn (prefer hardware!)). It took me a couple of goes to get the above right! I might have to go back and try redigitising ma photies and get it right this time!

The guy in the middle "Osama bin Jarratt" otherwise known as Tony Jarratt or J-Rat to his friends, died last year and left a huge gap not only on Mendip where he lived, but to the world as a whole.

He was responsible for discovering more cave systems than just about anyone in history and, as a true Gent, you would never have known it because of his modesty. cool

I hope that Mack someday says "I met J-Rat once," (I'm sure he will, he's a Gent too!).

I'm just proud to say that he was my friend from when I was a reefer to when he died!

And it was a very memorable day too!

Sorry Toney. I didn't scroll up enough to see name and avatar.

My bad.

That should have read "Coefficience of Expansion (Thanks Toney cool)"

Don't be too hasty. I could be wrong (I often am) and repeated tuning might solve it. Some of the other guys are better equiped to tell you about electrics and string tension/adjustment.

I think the excellent Russell or Pix might be able to help.

(Pix is excellent too as are just about everyone here; my phrasing didn't state that accurately!)

Thanks Pix. Yeah it is very priddy - I mean pretty! big_smile

And Mack was such a cool guy - no star 'tude there. The crew are mainly English and a lot of them (behind the camera) are ex-forces as well as himself.

It's a shame my photies are all 35mm and haven't been digitised - scratch that - most of them haven't but there are three or four that have. How do I upload these? Copy - paste?

Hey Detman.

Remember that heavier strings where they will have less tendancy to break it will be harder to fret notes and may require some neck adjustment because of Coefficience of Expansion (Thanks Russell cool) or how wood reacts to different tensions.

On the plus side they will sound warmer and a little louder.

(That sure is a cool signiature you got, hee hee smile )

We had Future Weapons filming here 2 years ago. First they blew a hole in our stable wall yikes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuSPi16M … ature=fvst

Then I found recently that they'd blown up my car! lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqO15oyWueE

We were demolishing the old stable block to make way for a new one and a house and Future Weapons heard about it and asked if they could blow it up!

Then I found out recently that the old blue Shogun at about 20 seconds into the 2nd film was the one I used to do all the chain harrowing, etc with until the gear stick broke.

There's a guy in the village who gave us various non-roadworthy vehicles to use on the farm. When they broke he would scrap them. I knew that F W had asked him for a car to blow up and they'd asked him if he knew of any walls they could blow up and he pointed them in our direction. I didn't know it was the car I used to drive tho'!

It was a great day when they did the filming and I got loads of photies! cool

These are ones I've known for a long time by rote. Would it be enough to tell you that Copperheah Road is D & C for the riff and verse and G, C, G, C, D x2 for the bridge/second part of verse.

Man of Constant Sorrow is D, G, A.

Do ya need more?

That's well interesting Guitardocphil! smile

The first time I saw your name totally_unique13 I lol.

It's one of the cleverest funniest things I've seen! cool

Thanks again Russell! cool

I couldn't remember what it was called or anything other than how to do it.

Hey Phill.

Kernoak (also Kernewek and others depending on spelling) technically Cornish. It's the language of the West Country although (it's my belief that) what would have been spoken here over 500 years ago would have been a cross between this and Welsh, or maybe the same as it is but with more of the same words; when reconstructing the languge early in the last century a lot of Welsh words were used to fill gaps.

We share the same counting system - onen, dew, etc and some greetings and phrases are pretty much the same  - dedh da - although spellings may change.

It is also 85% interchangeable with Breton. The Kernewek National Anthem is the same route as the Welsh - "Bro Goth Agan Tasow" (Old Land Of My Fathers) the Breton - "Bro Goth Agan Zhadow."

I'm not fluent, but trying - (some say very trying! tongue)

The name Wales shares an awful lot in common with Cornwall. The Saxon for foreigner was Weldh (pron' "Whelth") which changed into Welsh and Cornwall is the same meaning "The Foreigners form the Kern" (Kern being spit or headland)!

I don't know how indiginous I am to this land (don't have any family to check family tree) but I always call myself British not English!

I won't get boring about the origin of the word Morris - see I am trying big_smile

Sorry aabb, I've just been back to your question and skimmed over one detail that it was lead VOX NOT GUITAR! yikes roll

Nevertheless, the answer "Yes!" still stands with some considerations.

Namely that you need to bear in mind the input is for an instrument so is therefore unbalanced - it takes an instrument jack with a tip (signal) and sleeve (earth). Most mics from pretty naff to high quality come with a balanced connection - XLR, one point being earth the other two both signal but one positive and one negative (it uses phase cancellation to clean up any noise accrued on the cable run, but you might not need to know that).

What you do need to know is that if you get an XLR to Balanced Jack (Tip, Ring, Sleeve - TRS) you can plug it in and it should work as the negative signal will flow to earth, but on the output the signal will be unbalanced also.

The best way to use it for Vox will be as an auxilliary effect - mic signal goes into mixer, some of which is tapped and fed into an outside device and returns either to an auxilliary or to its' own dedicated mixer channel/s (mono/stereo). As most auxilliaries (on all but top end mixers) are unbalanced, this would be the way to go.

The other thing to bear in mind is that a lot of gear for guitars has a reduced frequency response (CD is 20Hz (bass) to 20KHz or 20,000Hz (treble)) and this is useful for Vox but a lot of guitar gear will have a response of less bass-end to treble rolling off at around 15KHz, although this is not a hard and fast rule and I couldn't see the frequency response in the specs or manual of the link in my last post!

There are lots of things that are designed especially for Vox and some have features built-in to handle a guitar as well - including Mic and Guitar pre-amps and seperate effects for both signals too! These will give you better vocal results but you will have to pay for it!

Get back if any further explanation or help is required cool

Hey tubatooter1940, that sounds DANGEROUS!!! yikes

Word of advice: If you get into a venue and there is sawdust/sand on the floor, chickenwire protecting stage and/or bar staff tell them that your name is different to that on the posters, you'd got the wrong venue and turn round and leave! wink

The Bank Holiday tradition over here is nearly always a Monday and it is just that - banks and (most) shops close for the day and the whole country has a one day holiday.

Most of the Bank Holidays it rains.

It's a tradition.

Hey Zurf, where in the UK are these naked Maypole rituals? Is it the pole or the participants that are naked? I think I'm livin' in the wrong area!

Monday night music was great. We had loads of regulars turn up and some newbies. Good Sesh!

Hope wherever you are you had a great time!!! cool

Hey Nenriel_Rain (cool name! cool)

Hey alvee33.

Can't make up it's mind whether to rain or not here; bit of both and neither of either.

Munching homemade chicken egg fried rice while writing this (sorry about the grease stains!) before hitting the shower to get ready for tonight. The only thing on my schedule I didn't get done was to have a go at that Jethro Tull song. Oh well, doubt it would have been ready for tonight and I'll get plenty of playing in once there anyway.

Hope you all have (have had) a good one!
