Good to hear you will be here for awile..I have heard they do not have large supermarkets there except in the big cities.

They don't really even have them in the big cities.   Tesco seems to be the biggest,  and the Fred Meyers down the street from me is three times the size of the biggest one I've seen.

I actually like that, though.   Instead of picking up everything at SuperMart, walk down the street, stop at the baker for some fresh bread, the butcher for some meat, the local grocer for some produce....

I had a friend that lived in Scotland by the submarine/ship area and they liked shopping every couple of days They loved living therebut got transferred back too the states.

I agree with the expressions about sentimental value; there's no way to measure that. My three personal assets are my musical instruments, my library (+/- 3,000 books), and my fishing rods & gear. Unfortunately, neither of my boys are interested in any of it, so I expect they will be left to close friends that I shared these interests with.

My grandfather died in August 2000, and he didn't really have much except a heart as big as a clear blue sky. He left me the two things he knew that I would treasure most, being his two Merrick bamboo fly rods. One is an 8' - 5wt he used for trout, and the other is a 10' - 9wt he used for salmon. All I have to do is pick one up and the tears start ... he was a very special man.

If any of our stuff could hold value for our off-spring, that would be where I'd want it to go. Grampie taught me that.

TF Salmon and Trout fishing is so great but we do not have a places to go nearby here.

I'm in Ireland right now, so football is far from me.   I did see an absolute smasher of a hurling match at Croke Park yesterday.
Yeah, we're shopping for a house right now.  I'm in love with Kilarney.

If you should find yourself anywhere near Dublin, you should try to find Lena (Old Doll) who has a Florist shop there.... we haven't heard from her in awhile here on Chordie, but I'm sure would be pleased for the meeting.

Happy House Hunting! smile

Lena actually delivered flowers to my wife on my behalf way back when we were dating.  She's all kinds of awesome people.

My wife grew up in Dublin (Glasnevin) and we have a house in Drumcondra.

Good times!   big_smile

Jerome glad too here it,thats a blessing. I hope you will stay and post still!!

I would tend to echo your thoughts Roger..... there is such a thing as "Sentimental Value", which transcends intrinsic value like a Royal Straight Flush trumps Four Aces (I hope I got that right.... not a Poker player).

Bill I am thinking like Roger and Doug..

Although we haven't heard from fellow-Chordian NELA for a while, our thoughts are with the flood victims in a southern part of the state of Louisiana. The on-line pictures are horrifying, as thousands have been affected by the conditions. I believe NELA lives north of the main disaster area in West Monroe, and so we all hope that he and his family are safe.

Ditto!

My wife's from England, and if we happen to be watching "Coronation Street" together, I often need her to translate expressions. Here in Eastern Canada, we have a province called Newfoundland (locally pronounced Newf'nland) where there's a whole vocabulary of familiar & unfamiliar terms, but all pronounced in a way that is almost foreign to anyone outside of the province. Here's a really fun song that illustrates it nicely:

almost sounds like a different language.

On a recent post MKM mentioned how we in different countries have a different take on words.
As my explanation of DAG went down so well.
thought i`d try another one on you `guitars in the boot`
where do u think the guitar is?
also many years ago our top country singer went to America,he had to change his name though.
his name was John Hore

john Hore,I would change my name too.  If you ever have your cell phone in your back pocket and it makes a call that is called a Booty Call.

I love that Ovation up there,  UJB and it's sure enough pretty, but I have to agree with the majority: if you wanna be cool onstage with it, that's fine for us guys who are musicians, but to "Mr. John Q Public", it's just another guitar. "It's made out of what?, asks Ol' Mr. John.... "Carbon"??? Well, aren't we made out of that, Dear?", says John to his wife.

And by the way, have you seen that thing Willie Nelson plays?

Give me a $300.00 accoustic/electric any day, says I. smile
