Cool, Never too many things to say about a jeep smile What all have you done? You got her set up for the trails?

My 99 xj is stock, '93 has a 2 inch BB and 31's, '89 is currently getting a 5 inch lift some trimming and 35's (waiting on my Rubicon Express superflex adj. upper and lower Control arms to come in so I can put her back together... Hopefully next week smile, My '88 XJ Waggy has a 4 inch trailmaster lift with 33's.

The '89 I just picked up a few weeks ago and is currently undergoing a pretty extreme build up but here she is with just some 33's on as rollers before I started disassembling for the build....

All the guys (Not meaning to exclude the girls, so feel free to chime in smile) hanging out here and as far as I can remember we've never really discussed cars/trucks/bikes/etc....   So what do you guys use to get from one spot to another or just to play with??

I'm a XJ (jeep) guy myself.... I'll get some pics up a little later of them.

lol a buddy and me were just talking about some of our fellow surfers that urinate in theirs last night/this morning during some stealth surfing....We gave one of the guys a bottle of PO as a hint...:) thought it was funny to get home this morning and find this.

Time to hit the sack for a few hours... good surf this evening so I get about 4 hrs rest before we head back out  (yawning as I type that, been up for 32 hrs now...)        Green Grass and High Tides my friends! -Chris

Sup Tony? Good to see you around again smile You know I'm about 3 hrs away but if you ever wanted to meet at a park or something about half way between us one weekend, we could make a day of jamming smile Drop me a line if your ever so inclined!

As a side note I finally got a new laptop so I'm able to webcam again.... If you ever want to jam some online let me know. Audio and video isn't the best (usually has some lag)  but I've played with lots of people from around the world that way.

Video chat with audio feed is free and let's you jam with other people if you can't find anybody local.

Be sure to check the comments section below the song. I've added the strumming patterns in the comments to many different songs here over the years... There's a chance it could be there already. I've been slacking on it lately but will try to get back in the habit of leaving them. Just don't rely on strumming patterns too much. It's always better to learn to feel a song and work it out yourself. That said,
I think a good foundation of preset patterns is a great tool for beginners to pull from for working them out themselves....

Looks great Z!   I could have swore I'd replied to this thread a long time ago........

I'd say the sandthru on the top is from the factory. Could the reddish brown layer on the back and sides have been the natural or red finish of a different model? It's possible that it was painted black because of the sandthru.....   Is it just the light in the pic or is the top veneer of the top mahogany? I know they use a mahogany/wild cherry/mahogany laminate on the back and sides of some models but most wild cherry models have a WC top veneer like these

Doesn't really matter, it just caught my eye....

Love the soundport! No need to support the inside of the port with that design and it being a laminate sided guitar... If you want to support the center t section of the port, I'd get a piece of an ice cream stick smile, trim it thinner than your vertical line in the port but about 2 inches longer so it extends past the port 1inch on top and bottom, bend it to match the curve of the shoulder and glue it in place. But as long as your careful not to hit it too hard it'll be fine as is.

Here's the easiest song in the world for guitar IMO...  Let Me Be by Xavier Rudd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZS4K28T-eSY

You don't even have to use your fretting hand smile  Pluck D string then slap strings x2, Pluck G and slap strings x2, and pluck A and slap strings x4.   Repeat and enjoy!

I'm still in as well. It'll be me and the Mrs... We plan to make a week of it. I've got some friends through the CherokeeForum that are local to the area and we're trying to organize some OHV trail rides while I'm in the area.

Zurf I got that new tank & pump in the '89 Limited and fired her up yesterday smile  She runs like a champ! Got to swap the tranny from the '88 Waggy in it though, she's slippin' bad.

Picked this one up last month by the same artist but am still trying to work the percussion out with/on the guitar..... http://www.youtube.com/user/Guitarpixx? … kGH08EpBBc  Really dig this tune  cool

I guess when talking about Dog songs you have to include this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5t2aL79_2e4   POM  "Feed Jake"

Maybe it's just me,but there are a lot of bands that I probably should cover some but have never learned any of their tunes.  For instance: The Beetles, Neil Young, John Prine, CCR, The Stones, Any Country artist, etc.... Believe it or not, I don't know any songs by those artist or a single country song period! Is that odd? I'm sure there are many other "Staple" artist that I just never bothered with, but those come to mind at the moment... Are there any staple bands that you just don't care to or have never bothered to learn?

The earlier models (70's) had the truss rod access/cover on the headstock and the center panel of the 3 piece back was darker than the outside panels... The ones from the mid-later 80's had the same finish on all the back panels (still 3 piece) and I believe the truss rod access was moved to the soundhole then as well. Hope that helps..... -Pix

Not sure of the exact age but it's lower end Alvarez... Nothing special at that price and yea, I'd agree that it's almost surely laminate... In general, adjustable bridges are a sure sign of lower end guitars... Though there are a few exceptions out there... The design didn't take well due to poor sound transference to the top.  I'd suggest looking for a vintage Yairi vs Alvarez. Contrary to popular belief, Yairi and Alvarez are not related and are totally different guitars... Alvarez just happens to be the distributor for the US market, elsewhere in the world they are known simply as K yairi's...  Old yamahas are nice and have great tone (especially the nippon gakki's) but almost all will need a neck reset.  They are known for being weak in that area and most often the cost of restoring outweighs the benefits.

I've bought over 50 online and only had 1 bad experience and it was rectified by the seller....   I have no hesitations in ordering a guitar unplayed.

I believe that would be a '79 year model. Nao is correct about the S suffix on taks indicating solid toped models...

Just for a little back ground on the lawsuit models....  Takamine was originally contacted by Martin guitars to build build their Sigma guitars. Takamine already had a large supply of their materials and build plans when Martin backed out and went with a different company for the project. So Takamine went ahead with the guitars under their own name....  So basically the older "lawsuit" Tak's are the same guitars as the Martin sigma's.... Many believe the Taks were better built and sounded better tonally than the production sigma's...    Oh, and there never was a lawsuit, just a threat of one.

+1   I love playing Rock Band with the kids smile   Heck sometimes after jam sessions me and the guys will play for a few hours....  I've always been a huge gamer though.

Tried master level sad  Didn't miss any but was a little slow, had 4 left to answer when time ran out.   I can see myself using this a lot!  Thanks for the link!

Tops I relate all mine and it helps me.... I look at it in relation to E. Take the G string for example, I know that G is E +3,  So any fret I need to identify for the G string, I just add 3 and relate it to the E string.... If you follow what I'm saying smile   G string 5th fret is the same as E string 8th fret (5th fret +3) So I know that's C.. Probably not the best way but that's how my mind works it out smile figure the +# for every string and it just clicks in place with simple math if you know the E string well....

That was fun.... I scored 530 first try with 15 seconds left on the clock. Seems I'm ready for the next level...   Great practice tool smile

+1   I like Taropatch tuning also (open G)

Here's an old Tahitian slack key piece that I really enjoyed playing.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4VE66NiCGE   His tab is on Acoustic Guitar Magazines site from the Feb '08 issue. If you're interested, I'll send you the password to unlock it in their archives as it also has a few exorcises/breakdowns that help with it....

MK, If you want, I'd be happy to send the files and a link to the how to vid I made for Tony to ya...   It's quite easy smile  Of course I'd be happy to do it for you if we meet sometime as well.

No offense Artless but that is the wrong way to do it and usually results in a poorly set up instrument.... Each string slot needs to be set to it's proper height and to match the radius of the fretboard for it to play optimally.
