Re: science and inventors (56 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
My slant on the existent of the God thing….
The concept of a God maker and originator of all things exists only in the mind of humans. So God it can be argued came from the consciousness or self awareness of the man. Whether God existed before man is in my view unanswerable and is down to ones personal belief. This view could also be construed as the chicken and the egg syndrome which has no answer.
Animals have no self awareness so have no concept of a God so God doesn't exist in their view of the world.
I think the key lies in the human mind and it's development. All through it’s development man has mostly needed a spiritual crutch and that has been called God..
God bridges the gaps for a while in human understanding until answers are found to the questions asked.
But crucially for the spiritual well being of man God can be there for mental support in times of need and ultimately to giving credence to existence of an after life.
Fundamentally it seems God made man…
And man made God.
The answer to what was there before the big bang singularity thingy. Well to me there was never a before only an after…

Re: Can't get it all together. (9 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I'm brand new with a brand new guitar. I 'm trying to learn to play and sing. I have learned some chords but can not get it to sound like I know the melody sounds in the original verson. Ok, do I try to strum each word of the song? Do I try to imatate the sound of each word with a chord? I cant seem to get the strumming with the words of it and all tied together to sound smooth.
Sound like your getting mixed up with the background structure of the song which are the chords and the overlaying melody which is the tune. Thats the part that's usually sung as the chords are strummed.
The chords are not the melody so when played on their own won't sound to much like the song your trying to play.
If you look up the chords to song you want to learn it will show you where the chord changes happen to the words being sung. I take for granted you know the tune of the song so you will sing this over your stumming chords.
This won't happen overnight it's the old nut of practice pratice practice.....
Good luck

I view the Xfactor as light entertainment harmless and enjoyed by many people. Not my cup of tea and certainly not going to add a lot to musical history.
It's strange how it gets the back up of a some people. I guess we all different. I think in this world there's room for some crass musical entertainment for maybe just for the laugh it gives us..... you know us serious musicians.

Re: Improvisation (11 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hi Z
Well I would make at a guess it was a bit of both well it is for me.
Riffs are mainly practised to get down pat impro comes in when your fairly familar with the song.
For the greats its no big deal they can impro from the word go there's no thought process they just do it like driving a car.
Of course years of practice and talent make this happen...
We can but dream.

Re: Feature request or settings change (6 replies, posted in About Chordie)
i wonder if it would be possible, given chordie's limited (or so i presume) population and finances, to add a SEARCH option? that way, instead of looking at all 40 titles in "Songs" with "circle" as the first word, i could type in "Circle Round For Freedom" and hope that my song would show up.
that's all, really. just a suggestion. many thanks.
Hi treppenwitz
The search option already exists just as you suggested.
It's a text search at the top of the home page if the songs on the data base it should show up.

Re: Have a songbook of 397 songs, I cannot open it. (3 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Hi dweebo
Well if you can't open the songbook then there's no way I know of deleting songs or the book as you said.
So all your left with is an extra link to your default songbook with the wrong title.
I've imported a book with 365 songs which opens ok. so not sure why yours doesn't open.
I guess you might have to live with it.
You could drop an email to admin about it..

Also, has anyone ever written a song from the perspective of a different sex? For example, if you're a guy, have you ever written a love song from a girl's point of view?
I wrote a song about a Bird of prey a fews years ago it's imagined perspective on the world. It's somewhere around have to dig it out.

Hi all
Had a lot going on lately and haven't been composing much.
Been picking up my guitar though and nooderling getting nowhere just putting a smile on my face.
Anyway here's a track I've finished lately.
Read a novel recently about the Crusades Knights Templar Holy Land and all that stuff. This track came out of the inspiration the book gave me.
No guitars or words so.. leave now if that's only what floats yer boat. :)
Otherwise see what you think..
Thanks for reading/listening
