Do you notice how quiet-natured and patient those folks are? I bet in real life it either takes a lot of effort to make them angry or very little effort. Know what I mean? smile

I think I'd rather just sit in the shop, watch, listen and help clean up. smile

Thanks, TF and Pete. What I wrote and how it "fit" together, was what one would term a "happy accident".

Unless I missed Jim Morrison's point, that song never made much sense to me except for the "soliloquy" (is that the correct word?) at the beginning. After that, he starts his "acid trip" in which nothing makes sense. Maybe it's not supposed to. I'd rather listen to The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus". At least in that one, you know (or suspect) they're high on something. wink

Maybe I didn't "nail" it  either, but at least (IMO) I stayed "on topic".

Any other opinions? I'd really like to read others' viewpoints.

Thanks TF and Peatle. (I still don't know what "Peatle" means! smile )

Dear Family

Dondra and I wanted to share these memories of my grandson Julian's special day. I hope this isn't against the rules, but after reading your messages to our grandson we both felt it important we include in a small way, you; our friends who have seen us through some very rough times, and have treated us like family. Thank you for being a part of a happier day.

The first picture from left to right: Me, Julian William Craig (all 6'4" of him) and the proud "Omie" Dondra .

I hesitated before posting this next one because of its emotion, but here again - you're all family,
"So why not?" I thought.

Looking closely, you'll see a letter held by our grandson and if you look more closely, you'll see Julian is crying. He has just read the letter his late father wrote many years ago for this day. Even I didn't know Dondra had it, and wondered why we needed to go to the our bank's security drawer earlier in the week.

And finally, the future Mr. and Ms. Juilan and Sara Craig. Yup. They're engaged and waited until last evening to let us know. I'll let y'all figure that one out. wink smile

Thanks again for "having our backs" through the hard times. Neither of us would have ever thought, we'd be so fond and highly thought of by our international friends and musicians here on CHORDIE

Bill, Dondra Julian and Sara Craig.

Leaving now for a 2.5 hour drive to Hampton, GA. Y'all are wonderful posting your messages and I will make sure he gets them. He'll love he encouragement regarding his playing guitar and, of course, your well-wishes.

Thanks From

Bill and Dondra

Thanks, my friends for those videos. While watching both, I kept asking myself, "How do they know when to stop chiselling???"
If I ever even came 1/100th of the way to constructing either model and messed up, know what I'd do? Ever heard of Pete Townshend?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjN5uHRIcjM

No. Of course I would never do that. Besides those pieces (not Pete's) could be re-used.

I found those videos so interesting and would like to spend a day with a luthier and promise not to get in the way.

Back in my broadcasting days, I once interviewed a gentleman who carved various items out of different types of woods. African Mahogany was one I especially remember. As he worked he talked about how much he loved wood and told me stories of the many types of wood he had used in his art.
I sat there mesmerized until he said, "Ready for some dinner?" Two  hours had passed. It was like listening to J.R.R.Tolkien.
Thanks TF and Classical Guitar for taking the time to link me to those vids.

My only grandson, Julian, graduates from high school tomorrow night and our small family will of course be there to wish him well. The only person who can't be there will be Julian's late father, Jason, who passed away last June.

Since I am teaching him what little I know on guitar, I would like to ask our family (you). If you wouldn't mind sending him some graduation wishes via Chordie? If this would be possible, would the first person to post the thread mention his name (Julian Craig), so I can send him the link.

I sure would appreciate it very much!

Love Y'all

This is about creating guitars. You have probably seen something like this before (or maybe even this one), but if you never have, give it a watch.

Afterward, ask yourself "What would Stradivarius have done?)"

As a favor to me and our other friends, I sure would appreciate it if our friend Classical Guitar could find a similar video.

Have fun!

No cirticisms of the OP? I know it's just a copy, but I thought someone might sing along just to see if I got the meter right, anyway. I'm not as good as some of y'all, and I admit I'm crazy as a loon, but I sure would still have liked too rad "too dark", "why you write such weird stuff", "rry one on your own for a change" or something.

This is one of those from the "attic" and I just HAD to get it out.

Feelings aren't hurt at all and maybe I missed something, but go ahead and crtitiqe. It can only help1 smile

PS: It's listed under poems called MORALITY

Yeah, I have one of those sticks and the felt. But how do you open it up to get the wax out from the INSIDE?

*** Bill you posted this as a report so I have copied it and re-posted it here - Roger ***

Thank you, Classical Guitar and TF, but cochlear inplants would be unaffordable for me. I think I'll rig up one of those things Ed Harris wore in "Copying Beethoven" when it gets too bad. I thank both of you for thinking of me, however, and will enjoy watching your PERFORMANCES wherever they appear, punch the air out of the guy sitting next to me and yell, HEY! I KNOW THOSE GUYS PERSONALLY!!!!.

"Not Found"? What happened , Pete?

Well, I will leave comment here anyway.

Kids are so resilient and inventive, Pete. Most folks would be surprised to realize just how much they can do without if we give them the time as a parent they need and crave.
Playing with a big empty box, wearing hand-me-downs,. daily chores and such would be just fine for them if we could give them what they need: ourselves. But the first thing we need to do is get off this "Keeping up with the Joneses" kick. THAT is what gets us in trouble as parents. Joe Blow down the road drives a Mercedes, but why do you (not you personally) need one.. Is your car running, can you get the bus/train to work. Roof okay, nourishments met and are the kids and wife warm and comfortable.

There you go, and those kids will grow up not missing a thing. All they need is time. OUR time. I learned that the heard way.

I will comment more as soon as you post again.

Good advice, Classical Guitar.  I guess I'm like the guy in the restaurant writing on the napkin or the guy keeping a camera around "just in case". I just don't go to restaurants these days and my memory doesn't serve me well enough to remember to take my cheapo camera.

Well, okay. That last one's a cop-out, I know.

I'd like to kow more about your creative times/practice/performance schedule. sometime.

Thanks again

Bill

Is singing a required subject in your school system, or do y'all just like to sing? It seems to me that so many of you do it so well.

Thanks

Someone in the comments used the word "Hauntingly", TF. I'll add the word "beautiful". You can choose Genesis for me anytime, my friend. Loved Bill Bruford's percusssion work in ALL Genesis music, by the way. Percussionists are simply great drummers. Me-I'm just a simple drummer.. smile

Hi All

As a Vet, the Starkey Co. gives me a free hearing aid. It's flesh colored, fits in the ear canal and has a little plastic thread coming out the end. Like this on the link.

https://www.starkey.com/hearing-aids/co … aring-aids

Well, I DO have a LOT of ear wax, so I pay daily attention to ear care, but after a few days, he thing stops giving me the 1,2,3 options (sound is kind like bleep, bleep-bleep and bleep-bleep-bleap). Then, after a few days there is either no sound (remember I clean my ears daily and don't PACK the wax in) is either nothing, or a screeches where the beeps were. At one point, I have even heard a voice trying to tell me something, but it is very short and inaudible.

Questions:

1. Do you have one of these and have this problem

2. Can ear wax get into the inner workings of the device. The battery compartment is the only thing to my knowledge which opens up.

I wrote to Starkey and have an appointment with my audiologist next month, but I thought I'd "sound out" (HA-HA, HAHAHAHAHAH HA. HA. CHORTLE, CHUCKLE, HAHAHAHAHAHA! WHOeeeee my friends ............."HEAR!!!!!!" (titter, snort, bwah) first.

Thanks

Thanks everyone. I did finally finish it and posted it.

Do y'all ever do this: You begin writing a song or poem, store it, can't get it off your mind for some reason, and then tell your self, "This has gone far enough I'm getting it done TODAY!"

Wish I had more days like that. smile

****Note: I have always liked The Doors' "Soft Parade" and for about the past year, I've been thinking the words "legislate" and "morality". I finally realized I heard them in a phrase by some politician. This is a satire of sorts based on on that tune. If you've never heard it and care to read along it's on YouTube. I tried to stay faithful to the rhyme and meter, but in my opinion Jim Morrison was crazier than I am.

To conclude, please remember that I tend to live in what we in America call "Left Field", so keep it in mind as you read if you choose to. Please make suggestions/corrections as you see fit. Thank you *****

                                                                            MORALITY

(Strongly voiced)
"When I was back there in Washington, there was a body of Senators who put forth
the proposition that one can legislate morality.....................Legislate..... morality......
Legislate. Morality...........
YOU CANNOT LEGISLATE MORALITY!!!!!!!!"

(singing)
Can you give me one example
To show that this has worked for you?
You're mistaken telling people
What they should think and {what}
They should do.

The time for that is through
******************
(Tempo Change)

Screaming and beatings and strict isolation
Shootings and bombings dividing our nation

(short instrumental break)

Killing your brother is not the solution
Dead babies in dumpsters won't bring absolution.
Fooling the people can get you elected
But words of derision won't get you respected
Keep up your thieving, your lies and your cheating

Till the next vote comes in

Bombs and drones
Screams and moans
Starving children
Throwing stones
At each OTHER!!!!

Barb-wire fence
A weak defense
Soldiers escaping
Your influence.

What's the answer
Where's the way
Another planet?
Who's to say?

"Leave it for the kids to fix"
But all they'll have are wood and bricks.
Before we turn it all to dust
We'll have to try to regain their trust.

Trust. Yeah.

If I re-write a popular song from long ago (60's) using my own words and the above phrase written on the TOPIC SUBJECT line, am I violating anyone's copyright?

Thanks

PS: Example:  "The Little Old Lady From Argentina" sung and played to the tune of "Where Have All The Flowers Gone?"

To all our ladies here in Chordie and of course the spouses of our guys. Thanks for putting up with all our inanities (insanity?)  and especially for loving us and the chirrun. (how we say "children" down here in the south).

I almost forgot: Thanks for listening to our music, singing and poetry, and, if necessary, telling us how beautiful they sound. wink

We send our love to all of you

Bill and Dondra

PS: It's early because we have a bit of travelling to do.

HAHAHAHAHA! "Common Meter", right, Phill?

Couple of questions:

1. What is "dosh"? (I have an idea but just want to be sure)

2. "The taxman lost out in a stroke (meaning because she begged and the paperwork for the taxes got wet, she didn't have to report her earnings?)

And finally (and you know I used to teach high school English, so please forgive me for this) would you consider changing  the word "it" to "they" on line 5?

Thanks for the laugh, my friend! smile
