Loved this song.
Phill I agree with you halfway on you comment on media coverage.  You are correct that they can be career- enders.
However - I also agree with Jan that they turn a blind eye to many.( Depending on political  perspectives or monetary impact)
I can't stand the way CNN and FOX both make up crap  or dig especially deep for political endorsement.
News show be impartial and wholly truthful.

But anyways - good thing we have independent writers and musicians that do exposes on importmatters that get lost in the media.

WELL DONE JAN !!
Keep them coming!

Jim

Thanks Jim, you got it exactly what I was meaning and you have nailed it, regarding for political or monetary endorsements or impact, not to mention lining pockets ....... hmm maybe another song in that big_smile

Phill Williams wrote:

You can certainly write a protest song Jan. The only line I disagree with is the one about the media down playing whatever the politicians or the radicals are getting up to, at least in the uk! The media here blow everything up and ended many a political or show biz career. I've said it before but again, you have a lovely voice, and your uke playing and timing is spot on, love the riff.

Thanks Phlll, lol I didn't start out to make a protest song, but it kind of turned into that I guess, more by accident than intent big_smile    "The media down playing" part of the song was more about they don't always tell the truth, they only tell what they want to reveal, their narrative that they want the public to see, believe.   I agree, they can for sure show lots of things on the news and blow everything up for the viewers, so that again the public see`s their narrative, what they want the public to see.  So, we are both correct, the media both down plays and blows everything up, to suit their narrative.  I was focused on the down playing side as they hide the truth often.

Jan your song covers the many aspects of frustration and outrage that many around the world experience. In the space of a couple of minutes which would take politicians talking for a couple of hours to cover, your song sums things up really good. You're a good songwriter.

Thanks Peatle, lol you summed it up with the politicians and even then, your being generous with the amount of time it takes them to talk about or make a decision on anything big_smile

Song I wrote for this month's FSOTM using the word OUTRAGE.  It's on Soundcloud if you want to have a listen.

Please feel free to cover this song yourself, I would love to see what you can do with it.

OUTRAGE - Written by myself Jandle (aka Kiki Jan on Soundcloud)

[G]                                      [C]
This old World of ours, it certainly is a changing.
[G]                              [C]
Through the times, Stone, Iron and Middle Ages,
[D]                                     [C]                           [G]
The Industrial age and, so it goes on and on.
[G]                                       [C]
We human beings, keep growing and a changing.
[G]                                   [C]                       (Echo)
Babyhood, childhood, teenage years, (they come of age),
[D]                                       [C]              [G]
Middle age and old age, forever graduating.

[G]
People living out their lives,
[C]
Some easily, some in strife.
[G]
Some struggling to make a buck,
[C]
Some just down on their luck.
[D]
Living on a basic wage,
[C]                                                    [G]
They feel the pressure and they disengage.

CHORUS:

[Em]
Frustration, unrest,
[F]
Outrage and very stressed,
[D]                                                      [G]
Sometimes seems our worlds, a mess. (REPEAT Chorus)

[G]                                           [C]
There`s Actors backstage, practicing their lines,
[G]                                  [C]
Rehearsing off stage, they change, ready to engage.
[D]                                          [C]
The times are a changing, people out on the streets,
[G]                                       [C]
Angry mobs, protestors, wanting free speech.

CHORUS:

[Em]
Frustration, unrest,
[F]
Outrage and very stressed,
[D]                                                    [G]
Sometimes seems our worlds a mess. (REPEAT Chorus)

[G]                                        [C]
Among the many things, there’s public outrage.
[G]
Over Governments far reach,
[C]
Some they want to impeach.
[D]                                [C]                  [G]
Media downplays it, on the world stage.

[G]                       [C]
People all over, in angry rage,
[G]                                         [C]
They wonder what’s next, what new plague.
[D]                                       [C]             [G]
Others not so bothered; others not even fazed.

CHORUS:

Sometimes seems, our worlds a mess. (REPEAT Chorus)

[F]
Frustration, outrage
[Em]
Frustration, outrage
[F]
Frustration, outrage ….

Thanks TIGLJK and neophytte for having a listen and the feedback.  I noticed when I re-listened to it, I had mucked a couple of the lines up but oh well lol big_smile

Excellent collaboration from you both.  Awesome song writing and video footage TIGLJK and Awesome vocals and musical compilation by you Phill.

Here is my entry for this month.  Started off as a poem as I couldn't find a song with the word `Outrage`.  So, I sat and wrote a poem.   Then with a few changes it become a song.  So, this is only the 3rd song I have ever written, completed and performed.  It`s pretty basic, I can hear a part that needs an echo in it but of course with the none of the right equipment, I wasn't able to put the echo in where it needed to go.  I think if this had proper music backing it, it would sound much better than on a ukulele.

Very quiet in here everyone, where are the songs?  smile

Brilliant collaboration between you Jim and Phill.  Wonderful when it all comes together like this.  Great vocals, great instrumentally and of course great lyrics.  Loved it smile

Jim, love your clever song writing and putting the selected words into it, brilliant how you do that each month.   ~Wowser~, is often used by people in conversation when they don't necessarily know what to say.  Here is how it is explained on one site on the web.
"Wowzers" is just a slightly sillier, slightly more exaggerated version of "wow."
How Wowzers Is Used
Like the word wow, wowzers is a reactive exclamation. It can be used as a standalone word to react, or as part of a sentence that elaborates on the reaction.
People say it online or send it in a text message when they're reacting to something that seems surprising or shocking to them. When they don't know how to respond with words, saying wowzers is a good way to communicate their loss for words.
People also tend to say wowzers when they're excited about something and don't know how else to express it. They may use multiple exclamation marks after the wordy to convey the intensity of their excitement (or sense of shock and surprise) almost as if they want the people they're talking to online or via text to know that they're shouting.

Phill agree, Inspector Gadget did use that word, I had forgotten that lol.  Anyway, hope you cover this song for Jim smile

TIGLJK, oh man, that is so clever!  You got them all again!  I am to blame for the words this month, including ~Wowser`~ lol but it didn't stop you and you managed to put that and the rest into your song, brilliant!  I like the song you have written, its message as well.  So, I applaud you Jim smile

Hey neophytte, I have never ever heard that song before, but I have to say, it was one of your best performances yet!  You nailed it vocally and instrumentally and you owned it.   Well done smile

Fantastic pics Jan
You look fabulous !
Love that little electric uke in the photo.

Mekidsmom (Amy) taught me how to post pics on chordie - wish she was still on here.
She had a golden voice like you as well Jan.

You are so considerate - I would never have thought about background people

Graham - Link did not work for me either.

Jim

Thanks Jim, very kind of you.
Yeah, that little uke is my favorite out of my collection of ukes and is the one I play the most.  Funny how you get your favorites isn't it.   I do have a few different ones and get them out from time to time but always end up going back to that one smile
Yes, it's a shame Amy stopped joining in here, she was such a valuable contributor here and I agree, she had a lovely voice and I always enjoyed listening to her music.  She and her hubby were great at hosting Chordie get togethers at their house every year.

Jan their good pics of you thank you for sharing. Growing up as a kid my Mum use to love playing and singing with her ukulele it was a happy part of my growing up.  With the ukulele making a big comeback with groups popping up all over the world like the one that you and Easy beat were in makes me think it should be taught as an instrument to kids in schools due to it being not too expensive an instrument to start on. I remember hearing J 'ukeville  playing together upstairs at the 1841 it was good to see you all having a good time with it and putting out a good sound.

Thanks, Peatle for the lovely comment.  We have actually met a few times as you know, so you and Brian know me anyway, but most of the others on here don't, so thought I better send my mug shot and join in with the request smile
Yes, you would have good memories with your mum and her ukulele sing alongs.  I too have great family memories of ukuleles, guitars and on occasion if in a house, piano, where family would get together for some occasion, or holiday and out would come the instruments and a merry assortment of songs would be played and sung by those present.  Very fond memories as a child growing up.   Sadly, doesn't seem to happen as much these days.
I do know some schools are teaching children the ukulele and have classes after school for them.  One of the guys I know and who I used to go to his ukulele group, he teaches the ukulele at school's full time now and also runs holiday programs for the kids as well for ukulele lessons.   When I used to be involved with a couple of ukulele groups, we would go busking and make enough money to buy and then donate a good number of ukuleles to different schools each year.

Hey great to see pics of some of you, awesome.  Grah1, I still couldn't see your ones though, the link you posted won't open for me.  Hey easybeat, good to see you back on here, pic please?  I have forgotten what you look like  wink  lol

Here are a couple of me, I actually had a hard time to find any ukulele pics of me without other people in, as they might not like me posting pics of them on here.  So, one of me with ukulele and one just relaxing on a camping holiday.  I found some of you and I easybeat from J 'ukeville days but had other people in the pic's.

OCTOBER 2022 FSOTM - DREAMING, PICTURE, ELECTRONIC, REMEMBER

easybeat:  https://soundcloud.com/rough-as-gut/dreaming
Jandle: (wrote a poem) ELECTRONIC Poem
I been thinking about songs
Using the word ~electronic~
It had me bamboozled
Something chronic.
I tried to make it harmonic
Something iconic
But nothing came to me
My ideas very embryonic.
So, I sat down and visualised it
It had to be symphonic
Pictured it all lit up
All ~electronic~
Then the word faded
As I sipped my gin and tonic
Oh well, I will go watch my Panasonic.

Ok, for MARCH 2023 FSOTM we have some WORDS and an ORIGINAL POEM/SONG and another SONG from some MEMBERS of CHORDIE.

Here they are . . .

From Phill:

Is the world falling apart
Or is that my broken heart?
I felt my soul being captured
By the tongue of a giant aardvark
Far away a pangolin
Played songs on his violin
Aboard an old West stagecoach
Accompanied by a mandolin
Apples pears and grapes were peeled
While spacemen threw away their seeds
Upon a giant rocket ship
No human meant to see

From TIGJKL:

On The Wings of Morning Doves (Original by Jim Kenyon)
See the lyrics and Chords for this here:  https://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=38752

From Grah1:

Aardvark (a word Grah1 highlighted from Phills poem/song starter)
Cyclotron

Phill, wow, sad story for that 90+ old man, who has survived to that great age only to be taken out by a young lad doing something stupid.  A really sad situation.  You have written this song really well Phill, as I am sure that is exactly how that young lad felt after fleeing the scene of the accident, feeling trapped with no way out.  Reality is, the only way out is to face the music and get his punishment and hopefully come out the other side of it and still have a future ahead of him, unlike the old man.  Otherwise, the young lad will be spending the rest of his life on the run and hiding.   Look forward to hearing how you perform this one.
