Phill,
an amazing song.
Hits so close to home as my wife's cousin was hit and killed by a drunk driver, and last week we had a 15 yr old local girl hit by a drunk woman at 2pm in the afternoon. That woman also took off, and then returned to the scene later- only to be apprehended.  The girl is in the Syracuse medical center clinging to every breathe to survive.
I also quite agree about what used to be nice communities being infliltrated by drug dealers - it seems rural areas are now the fave spot for them to hide out and produce their evil pharmaceuticals.

Your lyrics are excellent  the defining line in the song for me is "What can I do, there's no way out?"     The way out is to face up to the truth and do the right thing - or better yet- think before you do rotten stuff like this !
I am sure you will put a recording up right ?

Thanks for sharing

Jim

Graham

you are a master of disaster smile

cyclotron   bahahahahahahahaha

This is the link to the song I wrote.
(As usual, my playing and singing might make your ears suffer smile
I messed up the ending a bit - but I didn't have time to do it over.

Let me know what you think.

ps
I wouldn't mind if someone that can actually play and sing would cover it.
lol

Jan
Stray Cat Strut  was incredibly well done.   Voice is great and instrumental part was excellent!   Perfect song choice.   I loved the " meow!"    you nailed it ! One of the best songs you have performed !

Yellow bird was well done as well.
Thanks for sharing.   Jim

Nice one Jeff  It  made me hungry for some of that pie!!!
I can smell the aroma all the way up here in NY !!

No wonder you had errors in the project - impossible to concentrate with that aroma flowing around.

Feeling Helpless by Jim Kenyon

[Am] I’m wondering if you remember, the night when we first met

[E]touching hands and a virgin kiss

so[Am] hard to forget

[Am] oh, we wandered into love, with a thousand tender fears

with [E] stars shining brightly in our eyes

there was [Am] never a need for tears

[Am] time has a way of passing by, it always brings winds of change

[E] seems like we have drifted apart

the fa[Am]miliar now seems strange

[Am] There's some people that believe, that true love never dies

but [E] I can feel it fading away, baby

I can [Am] see it in your eyes

.

Chorus

.

[Dm] Why am I feeling

[Am] helpless

Like I’m [Dm] living in the

[Am] dark

is there [Dm] anything we can

[Am]say or do

[E] to mend these weary

[Am] hearts

[E] to mend these weary

[Am] hearts

.

[Am] my eyes look to the future, but my heart’s living in the past.

but I’m [E] doubting if you even care

but those [Am]memories seem to last

[Am] They say you don't know what you've got, until it's gone.

I [E] couldn't disagree any more

‘cause I’ve [Am] known all along

.

[Am] the dreams we once had are distant, lost in a sea of regret

[E] there’s not much left that's unbroken

and [Am] words we’ll never forget

[Am] try and remember all the good times, but they seem so far away.

[E]I wish we had the answers

to keep [Am] our love from slipping away

.

Chorus

.

[Dm] Why do I keep

[Am] praying

That it [Dm] doesn’t have to be this

[Am] way

is there [Dm] anything I can

[Am] say or do

you know, [E] baby, I still love

[Am] you

[Dm] Why am I feeling

[Am] helpless

is there [Dm] anything I can

[Am] say or do

[Dm] Why am I feeling

[Am] helpless

because[E] baby, I still love

[Am] you

[Dm] Why am I feeling

[Am] helpless

you know [E] baby, I still love

[Am] you

Sounds great Graham.   I could n't help nut think -  "They called me the snowman"   "ghost Blues"

Could it be a reflection of grey hair ?      smile   smile   smile

Looked like a lot of fun and a nice bar.

Jim

I wrote this song this morning  because Jan threw down the gauntlet challenge for the chordie song of the month smile
Graham - "aardvark "   baghahahahaha   it made me laugh out loud!

It's got all the words in it as usual.  I kinda got a little bit on the soapbox here, but i tried to mask it a bit.

On The Wings Of Morning Doves by Jim Kenyon

[A]I dreamt I was riding a horse with no name

Through an octopuses’ garden in the [E]night

[E]There were free birds flying in the clouds

And Buffalo soldiers forced to [A]fight

.

[A]There were iron butterflies in the air

As werewolves of London howled at the [E] moon

[E]while politicians dove down their rabbit holes

As paper tigers dance to the money [A]tune

.

Chorus

[D]Dreams can be a place where no child goes hungry

[A]A place where the world knows only love

[D]a place where heart’s are filled with compassion

and [E]peace is found on the [D]wings of a morning [A]dove

.

[A]black crows singing singing for what it’s worth

and next thing I knew I was aboard Noah’s [E] ark

[E]a shaman appeared and asked me this question

why pass on the unicorn’s, but save the aard[A]vark ?

.

[A]I saw a Lion sleeping all through the night

and all the other animals were feeling very [E]lucky

Dogs were barking at the  cats  in a cradle

As men with hoods drank mint julips in Ken[A]tucky

.

Chorus

[D]Dreams can be a place where no child goes hungry

[A]A place where the world knowsonly love

[D]a place where heart’s are filled with compassion

and [E]peace is found on the [D]wings of a morning [A]dove

.

[A]As the dawn was starting to end the night

my dream put me in a car, I think it was a [E]Chevy

[E]and people were crying, as a few were dying

I drove it down by the river near a dry [A]levee

.

[A]My dream took me to a party at the Bohemian club

The members all had Rolls Royce’s with a plastic[E] Jesus

[E]I saw bombs with people’s names hidden in the clouds

since that apple in Eden, seems we do what [A]pleases.

.

Chorus

[D]Dreams can be a place where no child goes hungry

[A]A place where the world knowsonly love

[D]a place where heart’s are filled with compassion

and [E]peace is found on the [D]wings of a morning [A]dove

Outgo- a little slower

yeah and [E]peace is found on the [D]wings of a morning [A]dove

"Jusing" is a word that  means the writer used to have the word" just" right in front of the word "using", but when he edited it, he only took out the "ust" of just, thus creating the word "jusing" !    smile

Thanks for giving it a go when you get the time. As usual, feel free to make any musical adjustments you feel necessary. I
I was reading historical prose and poetry from the 13th century (among others) actually, (CARME 85 FROM CATULLUS’ LIBER, DANTE’S VITA NOVA,GUIDO CAVAL CANTI’S RHYMES GASPARA STAMPA’S RHYMES  “SATURA”,  DON’T GO AWAY BY MARIO LUZI,  just to cite a few.  I read so many that I don't really remember which one that it was that had that line  {I think it was one of Dante's}  In Dante's Vita Nova (" New Life") he writes about a woman named Beatrice ( who becomes the focal point of many of his works) and he says "my first sight of her was at the age of nine "  .... "from that time forward, Love quite governed my soul”.   What a line - I almost used that as the genesis of my writing. { Maybe another one someday, smile } It's funny how words from so long ago effect you - I actually feel sometimes that I as read poetry like this I become one one the characters - it makes you feel their feelings sometimes.  It's a shame that most school's have moved  away from some of the greatest writing ever - choosing instead to have kids read a lot of modern junk and let them watch tic - tok instead.

Your insight is keen, as i actually just started out writing a poem and when it was done, I said " what the heck, why not throw some chords in there ?"
I'm not sure if your allowed to make a "chorus" like I did - that's why I wrote "kinda" afterward with a  smile  .

Thanks again, Phill

Jim

first of all , this song has nothing to with me or my life,  purely a figment of my imagination.
I was reading a book and the line " life's never what it seems" kept coming up.  it kinda stuck in my head and when I picked up my guitar, this is what eventually came out. It probably ( or certainly)  will need some tweaking, but it's long and I'm spent.
So here it is.
Please let me know what you think .

Nothing’s ever what it seems By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

.

[A]In the summer time when the [G]sun is warm

Love can[A] steal the hearts and minds of [G]men

I recall we [A]met on the [G]beach one night

my [D] life would never be the same again

.

[A]her eyes were blue, her [G]smile was deadly

Knew my [A] heart never stood a [G] chance

I watched her [A] silhouette moving a[G]gainst the sea

as [D] she swayed in a perfect moonlight dance

Chorus ( kinda smile )

and[E] I couldn’t [F#m]help wondering,

am I[A] caught up in a bad [G]dream

I[E] stood there watching [F#m]breathlessly

Thinking [A] what could [D]this really [E] mean

nothing’s [G] ever [D]what it [A]seems

.

Verse 2

.

[A] there’s something about [G]falling in love

Feeling [A] things that you never felt be[G]fore

It doesn’t [A] seem to have a[G] rhyme or reason

It [D]always leaves you begging for something more

.

[A] But we got caught in the [G]winds of change

She seemed [A] to lose the purpose in her [G] eyes

We tried to [A]mask the problems from [G] each other

But [D]seems it turned out to be a poor disguise

.

Chorus ( kinda smile )

.

and[E] I couldn’t [F#m]help wondering,

what’s[A] happening to our [D]dreams

I[E] stood there rather [F#m]hopelessly

Thinking [A] what could [D]this really [E] mean

nothing’s [G] ever [D]what it [A]seems

Verse 3

.

[A]It appeared she was [G]changing colors

I guess it [A]depends on your point of [G]view

Must be what[A] we had just wasn’t[G] good enough

She was [D]always looking for something new

.

[A]she said it wasn’t the [G] life she wanted

felt like [A] she was always running a[G]way

gave the [A] illusion that we’d [G]work it out,

but ]we [Dboth knew she couldn’t stay

Chorus ( kinda smile )

.

and [E] I couldn’t [F#m]help wondering,

what [A] was shattering all our [D]dreams

I[E] stood back in the [F#m]shadows

thinking [A] what could [D]this really [E] mean

nothing’s [G]ever [D]what it [A]seems

Verse 4

.

[A] I was thinkingabout[G] her this morning

but you [A] know that ain’t really big [G]news

it only [A]leads to misery [G]and an empty home

where [D] the only colors left are the blues

.

[A]don’t know what we could've [G] done different

we made [A]too many mistakes [G]along the way

I never [A]would’ve guessed it would lead to [G]this

where [D] there's no tomorrows, only yesterdays

.

Chorus ( kinda smile )

.

and [E] I couldn’t [F#m]help but to ask myself

through [A] all the pretense and the [D]schemes

did she[E] really ever have love for [F#m] me

was she [A] using me 'til it was [D]time to [E] leave

nothing’s [G] ever [D]what it [A]seems

nothing’s [G]ever [D]what it [A]seems

oh, nothing’s [G]ever [D]what it [A]seems

I would love to see a picture of your studio !
PS - I am sure Ann is encouraging you, not nagging !
Everyone else -
I have way too many guitars - but I don't care.  smile
I'm not even good, but I like to play them and they are great conversation pieces when friends come over.
I always believe that I have to include a note in my will explaining to my wife not to sell them for what I told her I paid for them !
Here is a flow chart that indicates if you need more guitars.

well written piece of factual history.
I just watched a news piece on the lottery system in the US

it operates basically on this       the jackpots is split   50% to the gov't and 50% among the winners.    however there is a 37% tax on the winners that goes back to the government.

so essentially - it becomes 13% to the winners and 87% to the government.
the odds of being a winner of the mega draw are 1 in 302,575,350

What the farmers should do is create their own 50 50 draw game and split it evenly with the winners.  and give the other half split up to the farmers that participate.

Just think if the government - for just 1 week - instead of using the money for the senseless things they do - just subsidized farmers with those earning.  JUST ONE WEEK out of the year .

Thanks for the great insight -( you as well Phill)

Phill
That song has superb guitar playing - sounds great.   (so jealous!)
Well written song.

keep them coming

Jim

Ok here is my version of the song I wrote for this month.

https://soundcloud.com/tigljk/painting- … al_sharing

it's a cute song if you can get past my bad singing  smile

Ok ... so keeping up with my tradition of using all the words in a song - here is a little diddy I wrote this morning.
hard to describe how i played it.....kinda of a root note pick and then strum the chord
probably the hardest song yet to have to use 'em all !  smile

Thank you to all of you who serve as moderators or do special things for us.
Also hopeful best wishes to all of the former Chordie members who have been a part

and I can tell you that almost without fail, there were tears flowing from students as well.
I look forward to your version !
