As I mentioned before, try the book "Guitar For Dummies". It has loads of info on how to read tabs.

It is definitely possible to be a lead guitarist, listen to any song played by Ash, they have two guitarists, one rythym, one lead. You may have to play a few chords as well, but once you get used to it, that shouldn't be a problem.

Try the Rifftionary as well. Yes that is the correct name. It's entirely in tab and includes the main riff for quite a few well known songs.

Simple answer: the companies won't do that because every time you break a string you buy a new pack. So if they included extra strings they wouldn't sell as many sets. It would be nice if they added the strings, but they won't. Your best bet is to buy a 3, 6 or 12 pack of whichever strings you like. At least that way you'll have plenty of spares.

If you are playing electric try Ernie Ball strings. They cost about £1 a set more than d'Addario but they are worth it.

I bought a 3-pack of d'Addario strings a while back and I couldn't stand them. It felt like they had some kind of greasy coating on them. Replaced them with Ernie Ball Skinny-Top Heavy-Bottom strings, and the guitar now plays much better.

Thanks, if the beginners' Ibanez guitars use it it sounds like it should be ok.
I was asking because the Wesley T-Surf is made of agathis.

Rotosound put an extra of the highest string (E) in each pack, don't know how good the strings are though because I've never used them.

The Low E is breaking? I'd say that there is something wrong with the bridge. If we're lucky gitaardocphil will have a look, he'll know for certain.

I started with an Encore Strat with a single humbucker, you can get a similar guitar for about £80-£100 (think that's about $100-$150).

Don't know how many americans have heard of him, but when Robert Smith (guitarist for The Cure) went to record his first album sometime in the '80s, he brought a guitar with him that would cost the equivalent now of $100. And Jack White plays cheap guitars as well. So there must be some cheap guitars that are good quality.

Try something like Yamaha, Encore, Epiphone or Squier, they must be OK because they sell loads of them.

P.S. I've had that Encore Strat for 12 years, and apart from the chrome peeling off the tuners, there's nothing wrong with it at all. Sounds good, looks good, plays good.

Try "World Domination" by Ash. Barre chords all the way through the verses.
And "Hitchin' a Ride" by Green Day, barre chords all through the verses as well.

Also try this: if you see one of the songs using power chords, swap them for barre chords. Swap a 6th string power chord for a E-based barre, a 5th string for A-based.

Also, not sure if it makes a big difference, but try playing barre chords while standing up. It makes it easier for power chords, might be the same with barre chords. (don't know because I can read them but not play them)

I know you pick the the low e first, then do you strum the b and high e at the same time?  That is the confusing part to me because that doesn't look like a chord.  I know I probably sound very elementary in regards to this.  I can learn the chords in order to play this particular song, but it seems like some songs sound better picked.  This is an exerpt from More than Words by Extreme.

Sounds like you're having the same problem I did. If you're really having trouble with reading tab try the book "Guitar for dummies". It helped me learn the basic techniques (including how to read tab), and it has a list of 96 chords in the back. You can buy it for around £10 if you shop around.

The highest string notes in the tab above are "double-stops". You play them both at the same time. As johncross21 said, any time when the fret numbers on the tab are directly above each other, you play them at the same time. Therefore the C major chord that gitaardocphil mentioned would look like this in tab:

Ah ha!! So you ARE in the UK!!!
Well, since I now know that as a fact, you may want to go with the wesley guitars if you're impatient like me.
But I only say that because I'm one of the most impatient people in this world.
I couldn't possibly wait 2+ weeks for my axe to arrive. I stand by the quality of Agile Guitars but the wait would positively kill me.

EDIT: Oh, another thing about the Wesley Guitars is that you won't get quality Pick-ups or Tuners with the guitar.
It is also still unknown what wood they make their guitars from.

The San Diego is Alder body and Maple neck, it says the wood on the features list for each guitar (or at least it does for the San Diego). The T-Surf is Basswood with a Maple neck.
It also says that the tuners are Klusen, anyone heard of them before?

P.S. The LP that I've got (I'm sure I mentioned it somewhere) is IDENTICAL to the
Wesley Phoenix Vintage Mint Cream, except it's black and it doesn't have a logo on the head.
The tuners on it are OK, so are the Pickups, but since I moved up from a 12-year-old Encore Single-humbucker Strat-Shaped that my parents got me, they probably would seem good!

Although with the current exchange rate, it might be cheaper to buy one and have it shipped than buy a wesley!

I've got a LP style guitar that's made of the same wood as the real ones, cost about £80 inc. case, and i'm looking for a good-quality single-coil for about the same price.
I've seen these companies that make fender-style guitars out of the proper wood (alder & maple), can anyone tell me if they are any good? I mean someone who has actually played one.

G2 by Stagg.
I've seen a few of these on ebay (uk version), they're made of the same materials as proper fenders (alder body, maple neck), but they cost about £80.

Wesley Guitars.
I'm looking at the San-diego version, alder & maple, £89.99.
