Similar sort of stuff to be honest. Like any beginner I play shedloads of Oasis, some Snow Patrol, Green Day, Travis, Robbie Williams (for the ladies....honest )bit of Stereophonic. Anything that's easy really, oh, some David Gray too.

Any use??

Hey there, I would describe myself as a fairly new player too, although it's been over a year now. I started like most people with tuneless aspirations and a few rather unhelpful textbooks / instructional dvds.

The thing I found when trying to play was just to devote some time to it and stick at it. It's very frustrating at first and exceptionally easy to throw in the towel when you hit a brick wall. Practice every day, even if it's for 30mins, do that and you'll soon pick it up. Your hands will start to learn their way around the fretboard and your confidence will increase. You'll find that you get a real buzz when you finally learn something new and make real progress. I also found that it's a serious of plateaus and steep increases in ability. Things often just "click" but it all goes back to my initial point. It takes time...time and patience.

Sorry for rambling, but hope it's some use. Good luck!

Evening guys, I'm in the Paisley area (no jokes please) so I'd be up for a bit of jamming....only been playing about a year+ too and usually just messing about on my own or for friends and family but it'd be good to bounce some things about with other folks.

What sort of things do you like playing?

Practice is definitely vital.

I've only been playing for about 7/8 months now but I've been playing just about every night for anything from 30 mins to 6 hours depending on just how sad and desolate my social calendar happens to be at the particular time. As a result of this constant practice my friends and family cannot believe how much I've improved although there's obviously a lot of room for improvement. One of my friends has been playing for a number of years but I'm already waaaay ahead of him due to the difference in our practice regimes.

What I would say is that there will be a definite plateau from times to time, but similarly there will be times when everything just "clicks" and you will make big leaps forward really quickly. It gets very addictive when you start progressing like this.

One actual tip I do have is about strengthening your hands (childish giggle ) once or twice every day take a bit of time and spread and stretch your fingers on each hand as far as possible for a couple of seconds, hold and then clench your fist as tightly as possible. Repeat as time permits. I used to do it driving to work...gear changes excepted, of course.

Good luck!!
