Those are good videos.  The difference between the 64 bit and 32 bit are negligible.   Internally, Reaper treats all audio as 64 bit, so the only gain is if you're running 64 bit VST plugins.  And even then, only if you're running a lot of them.

Reaper's internal file format is WAV (AIFF is an option on Macs) and that is what you'll want to use as it's lossless.  When you start running audio through equalizers and other effects, those "unhearable" frequencies that MP3 removes become relevant.  You can render to pretty much anything, though.   If you want to render to MP3, you'll need to install LAME, as that is what Reaper uses to convert.

Jimmy is my favorite all time player and Zep is one of my all time favorite bands.   "Over the Hills and Far Away" is my own personal benchmark piece.

My only problem with Stairway is that it's not even the best song on that record, but it gets all the press.

OK. So this is what happened with it.  smile

I'm going to re-track the vocals due to some pretty egregious plosives and general not getting it right.   I also mixed this in headsets so if anyone would care to tell me how whacked the bass is, I'd appreciate it.  I'll get the monitors out later and mix it right.

Well....  The more I drink, the better I'll sound. smile

I'm very much in the "you don't need top gear to make top recordings" camp.  I've come to the conclusion that at the end of the day, I would rather have a great sounding space and average equipment than a crappy space and great equipment.  All that $4000 Neummann mic would do for you in your garage is give you a fantastic high fidelity recording of your rattle trap standing wave trap garage.  big_smile

Might wanna check out the license requirements for the area you are in. Since you will now be getting paid for your service you will assume a business enity rersponsibility. Along with that comes taxes, even if you are paid in cash or tips, you have to pay taxes. At the end of the year the "owner" gives you a 1099 for all the "income" you made and the government will want their share. There are even some songs that require permission from the "MUSIC POLICE" in order for you to proform them. I sure Russell or Jerome can provide better info on this than I can and will provide additional advice. Anyway, good luck with everything.

The responsibility for ensuring live venues are covered commercially from a licensing standpoint sits with the venue, not the artist.   The venue probably has a license with ASCAP, BMI or one of the other rights licensing agencies.  Despite what you may have heard, their terms are generally reasonable and most people that get in trouble with them are offered multiple opportunities to get one.

If there is some violation, it's the bar, not the band, that gets the cease and desist letter.

You don't get to use other people's stuff without paying for it.  If you do, the law provides very specific remediations for it.

That's how it should be.

Zeppelin was pretty notorious for ripping off everyone else, so it wouldn't surprise me if they borrowed a bit of Stairway, too.  My problem with Stairway isn't thatm though, it is that it is probably the most well known song they produced, but it's not even the best song on that record.  Or the second best.  Or even the third.

Zep 4 is just an epicaly good album.

I believe Ray Wiley Hubbard wrote a song about this kind of thing....

A blonde Telecaster, 1955
Dynacomp pedal, beer bottle for a slide
A black face Twin, with the JBL's
Some things under heaven are just cooler 'n hell

Great song, too.  smile

Yeah, the TV thing is kind of a bummer.  My guess is that people tend to turn off the tube during the second half of Seahawks home games as they tend to be lopsided.

On the other hand, this is a team that plays at it's very best when it has a big ol' chip on it's shoulder, and this sure did help that.

Not having the Niners on MNF is more than ridiculous.    Seattle and SF represent the two best teams in the league right now (sorry Russ...), the 9ers have a brand spankin' new stadium, and it doesn't get Monday night?

Howzat happen?

Most of the rivers I have easy access to don't open for trout or steelhead until next month, which is good as they run high this time of year and I'll drown.    But that's what I've got my eye on, ultimately.

I do end up in your neck of the woods on occasion, so that's a date.   One of the things I really like about the fly rod setup is you can put everything you need to fish in your pocket.    It's so portable!

I haven't caught a fish, literally, in decades.   I think the last time I ever had a live fish was on a spin rod back in '87, just before I went in the Navy.   White River steelhead, just under the Buckley bridge.

Good times.  smile

Here is a funny.   I have a bunch of Behringer stuff and get good use out of it.  I can't use it on stage, though.   The guy that plays guitar in the band is an industrial designer by trade, and created the Mackie VLZ series mixer's control layout.   He's mad about Behringer copying the Mackie designs.  I keep trying to tell him that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, but he's having none of it.    big_smile

I love Behringer stuff.  They blatantly rip off Mackie and provide that at about half the price.

I've got a set of Pyle 103's that I'm pretty happy with.

The 1/4" jack is a bit weak, but it's otherwise a solid set of speakers, and they double nicely as stage monitors.

Thanks Zurf!

There are bass in the lake, particularly on my side of it.  The woolly buggers usually suffice as a leach pattern, but I'll add something more specific as I grow my collection and figure out what the heck I'm doing.   I don't have a frog pattern, but as there are thousands of frogs around, I'd imagine they're a pretty tasty treat so I should probably get one or three (dozen).   How would I tie that, though?  Tie a new tippet and put the frog on the tag end?  Two tippets on the leader?   Should I weight the leach pattern or just let it sink naturally?

I'm not quite ready for a canoe, but there's been one in my future for a while.  Or a float tube, perhaps.

I'll probably go out again on Thursday after work.  I'll report in on my failures then.   big_smile

So, you're saying I need to take my guitar in and try different pick ups with different amps probably huh?  I tried one at a friend's yesterday and my guitar - on clean setting on his amp, with tons of tweaking - sounded like an electric.  I didn't like it.  sad

Well, the best thing there is to try another amp.  smile

Another thing to consider is that your unplugged acoustic doesn't sound the same to you as it does to someone sitting in front of you.   Kind of how the voice you hear in your head when you sing sounds different than the voice on tape when you record.  Your position over the guitar gives it a certain sound that may not be the same one you get out of an amp, even if it were perfectly set up.

What I would do is go play different guitars with different pickup types, and through different amp setups.   As Zurf notes, any amplification is going to change the way the guitar tone sounds, so find the one that works best for you.
