Good for you Bob,

You should be set to do just about anything now , have fun with it and I think you will find the SM-58 mic does require some getting used to. You have to be right in it and I mean almost swallowing it for it to work best.

Have fun, you done good smile

Thanks Geo,
Lizzie is very supportive and gives very constructive advice, she is not a musicain but has a very good ear. I think she is right
I need to get the song down better and play it with a little more conviction. She said it was ok , just didn't do it for her, and that's Ok , I like constructive criticism.  Better than one Youtube response I got "TOTAL S&*T". That makes a guy feel lower than pond scum sad

Great as always Wayne.....You're wife's being too critical! If it helps, I can post some of my stuff so she'll appreciate your work more... way more!!! smile

Thanks Kenny, I am finally getting my new recording software figured out a little at a time, so don't give up on yours. I wish I could help you. I know how frustrating it is.

All those re-takes made it worthwhile cause the bottom line is....Ya Done good.
You picked a great song to cover and can't see too much more room for improvement.

Two Thumbs Up my Friend big_smile

Wayne, you did that just BEAUTIFULLY!  Lizzie sure is a lucky lady to have you playing and singing her requests so wonderfully!  smile

Thanks Bass, & Toots,

I didn't know the lyrics very well and struggled with this song and did more takes than I ever have to get it recorded. My wife didn't really like it so I will work on it some more.

Yes, Tuba ,
I really like the Seinnheiser Mic , I have been using it for a couple years, I previously used a SM58 and is a good vocal mic. I do like the Seinnheiser mic better tho

THanks Wayne P

I thought I would try out the new Forum and test the water smile

I recorded this video with my new Presonus Audiobox USB interface and it's my first video using it. I just used my Zoom Q3 for the video and synced the audio to it. I tryed several recordings and ended up miking my Fender Ultralight Acoustasonic with a shure KSM-27 . The vocal mic is a Seinnheiser 845 , I really like it and was recommended by Southpaw41. The guitar used was a Martin HD-28 with a LR Baggs I-Beam pickup.

Anyway I did this because my Wife requested it and I wanted to see if I could do it. So here is my attempt at

Seems like the Rock and Blues players get most of the love but here's some of the Best Acoustic Players left out.

Tony Rice, Norman Blake, John Sebastian, Jorma Kaukonen, David Rawlings, Clarence White, David Bromberg, Monte Montgomery, Laurence Jubar, Peter Hutlingler, Richard Thompson, Buster B Jones, and Thom Bresh

I agree, everyone has their favorites at different types of music. Texas Blues , Stevie Ray did it for me. Then how do you compare Stevie Ray with Chet Atkins or Jerry Reed or Merle Travis , Doc Watson. Everyone has favorites and does that make them the best , no but each have a unique style that made them a treasure to watch and listen to.

After seeing Eric Clapton at the Crossroads festival and just about every Great Guitar player was there for a 3-day Guitar Lovers Dream. I don't think Clapton was the best by a long shot but his "Tone" I thought was the best and he really plays with feeling.

I watched many of the players jam during the 3-days and Jimmie Vaughn played in nearly every jam , one that was especially cool was with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, BB King, John Mayer all great players , but the guy I thought was best jam musician and ready without a cue at all times to pick it up and keep things tight was Jimmie Vaughn and I don't think he would make anyones top list of guitar players but just a wonderful musician.

Then move on to Bluegrass, and how do you compare Tony Rice, Clarence White, or many of the great Flatpickers with others.

I say enjoy them all and be thankful they have given us such a great variety to enjoy

Good for you Pix,

I hope it goes well, I think getting started will be the hardest , then it will kick in. I always like to talk a little bit before I start so I know how hot the mic is and kinda get a feel for the PA , then let'er rip.

Are you doing vocals also ?

A trick a guy showed me , that really helped and I haven't looked back since is.

Thumb on the back of the neck , roll your wrist as far around as you can and get your fingers coming down at a better angle and not so apt to muffle the adjoining strings.

Alot of songs just don't sound right unless you are using the first position chord or a barre chord at the 7th

Yesterday , I went to the local guitar store to kill a little time and it was very busy , a young fella had a couple a friends there helping him pick out a guitar. He didn't know how to play so his friend was playing the guitar that they had decided on. He was really a good player , playing some acoustic blues stuff really loud and very good. I was just hangin out enjoying all the action. There was also some electric players playing in the other room.

The young fella decided on the Ibanez acoustic and they were at the counter paying and buying accessories and the friend was hanging on to his new guitar. I was at the back of the shop playing a Martin 000-28 Eric Clapton Model. I was noodlin around and I was playing Freight Train. The fella holding the guitar gave me a Freight Train response back with his guitar. So I started it from the top and he come back and played.

I then played Mr. Bojangles and my new friend played lead and Wow did he sound good. I sang the entire song and gave him a couple of solo breaks , we had a nice little crowd watching. The young guy that was getting the new guitar watched and you could just see his excitement and I am sure , hoping he could do this with his guitar some day. He was just beaming, we finished up with the song , he handed the young man his guitar and said we better get going. They went out the door and he was smiling and shaking his head as they headed out.

It was so cool seeing the new guitar buyer watching as we played. He was smiling from ear to ear just lovin it. Great to see the excitement of people just ready to start their journey.

Seems the greatest moments are the ones that just happen, you can't plan them.

Now that MKM mentions it I bet Neil Sedaka and Barry Manilow's songs weren't about girls either smile

Pix,

Here are some folk singers that aren't real well known to everyone. That I have in my songbooks

Christy Moore
John Martyn
Tom Paxton
Tim Hardin
Steve Goodman
Dave Van Ronk
Gillian Welch
Billy Joe Shaver
and
Mary Gauthier, one of the best Folk song writers of today and a good picker "Thanks to Old Doll" for sending her my way.

I was told what makes a folk song a folk song is there is no chorus , you just tell a story verse after verse till you get tired or the story has an ending.
