Yep, still an error this morning but the forum is working fine.  Error reads as:

mySql reports: Table './guitaradmin/songbookadmin' is marked as crashed and should be repaired

The upside to this is that it likely means that Per was in here last night working on the site!  That means that he's around updating things, and this can only be good in the end!  smile

Daddycool... being a mother (and having one smile), I find your song very sweet and kind.  Thank you for the little Mother's Day tribute!

Toney that is so sad to hear of people taken away so early in life.  A heart attack is so rare at the age of 34.  I am 33 myself, and find it hard to imagine losing anyone near and dear to my heart that is around my age.  So many children and a wife left behind to wonder why makes it all that much worse.  I wish you strength during your performance... of course I agree with Roger, but I understand your desire to actually be able to do the song in a way that will do him justice.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend and clearly a fine musician, father and husband.

Banana, I think that is a good point.  There's a LOT that can be learned ... but if you can learn it and then can figure out how to APPLY it... the world is your oyster!  The applying part can be a bit tricky at times, especially in the beginning!

That's a good point Phill; I do recall there being a big difference between the + - with the aftermarket burner that I had... but I'm pretty sure that this only applies to DVD disks.  I believe all CDR disks are of the "-" flavor (CD-R) ... I don't think there are CD+R or CD+RW.  DVD-R was the first one DVD+R came after and has different capabilities but the cheaper or older DVD recording drives did not support the + option... so if you are buying DVDR stick with the DVD-R if you are in doubt (although now you can buy DVD-+R so the disks support recorders that will do both, or just one).

On another note... you do want to stay away from the CD-RW for burning and playing music in a traditional CD player, I imagine many of them will not recognize the disk... the RW (rewritable) media is more for saving files and such, not designed for creating a playable disk (and it's more expensive).

Some software will also ask you if you want to "close" the CD when you are finished... the answer is YES!  If you don't close the CD it will not be readable.

itunes is an excellent option for burning music files to CD for playing... it is free... good suggestion PaPaTom!  As a windows user however, it takes a bit getting used to for navigation purposes.  They do have downloads available for Xp, Vista, and probably the new Windows7 as well.  It's not an all inclusive burning program, but will absolutely do what you want it to when it comes to burning music cd's!  Another simple answer to the software issue!

When ever I burn ANYTHING... the first thing I do when it's complete is put it back into the computer to see if the computer can recognize it before even bothering to try it in a CD player or DVD player.  Figure, if the computer it was burned on can't recognize it then nothing else is going to.  If not, then it is probably the disk itself.

Zurf, I feel for you.  We are on our way to that same place with "my husband's" dog, Dozer.  My husband and I have been together for 10 years and Dozer was with him before I was... Dozer was his child... as my son also came with the deal.  Dozer was three when we got together, my son was four at the time.  My son is now turning into a young man while Dozer is VERY quickly turning into an old man.  He was still bursting with energy up until last summer.  It all seemed to hit at once.  I notice how quickly he has gone downhill since it hit last summer.  While he has always been "my husband's dog" he most certainly has been a HUGE part of this family and been a fantastic friend, playmate to all of our children, guardian of our home and more.  I do not envy you and am sad to see each day that passes and we come closer to the point you are at now.

Enjoy those few walks that are left... curl up on the floor with her if she can't curl up at your feet with you... God Bless and I pray that she may go peacefully in her sleep... as I hope Dozer does as well.  Who else will love you unconditionally even if you yell at them, leave them alone for 8 hours each day and they will always be happy to see you when you return, ready to play anytime you feel so inclined, be content eating the same meal day in and day out, listen to all your secrets and never ever tell another soul, love you despite ALL your faults and never once complain about them ...

Welcome Wagon!  smile I can't say much more than Cam has... great site... great people!

Tony, I like the "idea" of playing classical guitar in the traditional way... but for now, I'm using my classical more like a steel string.  Jusitinguitar.com does have some finger picking exercises on the site... and there's LOTS on youtube.  You could just try some finger picking with songs you already know (or at least have been practicing and can do some chord changes to).  That's what I do anyhow... I strum, I pick... I try to strum and pick.  I personally am considering putting acrylics on my right hand nails so that they'll be long enough to pick with.  Right now they are kinda "standard girl length" and it's not long enough.  My fingers do the picking.  You could try finger picks too (I didn't like them too much).

If you want a little inspiration however... check THIS guy out!  I think he's AMAZING!  He has a lot of great "hits" to listen to, but this one he wrote himself.

That sounds like it would be fun, honestly... but exhausting at times.  Good for you for knowing what you want and going after it Jerome!  smile

Zurf... ha ha... did you kick those lawyers butts on the other side of the table?  I used to REALLY enjoy understanding the UI laws and Contracts and having chats with the "higher ups" and putting them in their place.  Explaining to the owners and HR reps (college educated people... while I was NOT college educated) that you can't fire someone because you don't like them and then not allow them Unemployment became a bit annoying after a while.  Keeping people's jobs by highlighting points in our Union contract on the other hand was 99% pure pleasure.  The 1% that wasn't enjoyable was when I could save someone's job but didn't feel they deserved it.

Ivan, welcome to the forum!  I will "assume" that the answer is no since the songs aren't hosted at chordie to begin with, but I could be wrong.  You can always link to your songbook however... once you've made it a "public" songbook!

Welcome to the forum Cluckinon and Jim!  Jim... I might not be much help, but I just replied to your other thread.  Clukinon... glad you found a solution to your problem!  I wouldn't have thought of that myself as my printer just "quits" on me when I'm out of color, it won't print anything at all or will insist that I choose to print everything in black ink only.  Apparently, you aren't so bad with computers as you found the solution all on your own!  smile

Jim... a late welcome to the forum!  I actually am so new (6 months) that I don't know what an Em11 chord is... however... the admin (Per) would be the correct person to ask this question.  It seems he actually isn't around a whole lot on the forums, so if you'd like to send a message to him directly I believe you can do that by going to the resources tab, then "give feedback about this site" and let him know your suggestion for adding another chord fingering to the chart.

I want to personally send my apologies for not answering this post and for others not responding and welcoming you to the forum as well.  Generally you'll get a slew of welcomes even if you don't get a solid answer.  Somehow your post must have slipped through the cracks!  I do recall seeing this and thinking, "ahhh... one of the mods will tell him... I should butt out" ... LOL!  Alas... I should have at least said "HI"... again, I am sorry.  I hope you continue posting in the forum and have a great time!

I like this poem, tells a story like a good country song.  Let us know when you've got some of it up.  I'd like to hear how you put it to music!

Alvee... thank you for sharing that link.  Coming from the point of view of "knowing" what that would be like... WOW!  I can only imagine.  I will spare a thought for those lovely ladies and girls today.  I there were some headbands or something that women would CHOOSE to wear in their little collection to purchase (instead of just pins and wristbands) to help support these woman.  I would have ordered something like that to sell in my shop (just on a support/donation basis) to other women to help raise awareness and help support this worth while cause.  It's interesting that nothing like that ever has to be doled out at the local clinics (in the states)... yet they hand out birth control like Christmas Candy.  Makes you think a little!

Very nice collaboration Gentlemen!  I think it was put together well.  Russell's guitar along with Phill's lyrics and voice were a lovely combo!

Hmmm... Zurf, here is my request.  When you do eventually get the song written and/or recorded... I for one would LOVE a personal email with the details!  Either, a file with the song written... or a link to youtube where you've uploaded it.  You know.... something along those lines!  You can still share "off the record"!!  smile  I think Bensonp would like in on this as well.  Anyone else?  ha ha!  Pushy?  Who?  Me?  Well, you don't HAVE to oblige.  smile

I don't really burn music cd's anymore ... we all have ipods or cell phones that play mp3's around the house now a days.  When I was burning them, I had problems with memorex in my other cd burner.  It was an aftermarket burner that I added to a computer.  I recall being really surprised when I looked into it back then, thinking Memorex was a "great" name brand... but that actually is NOT the case!  Apparently there are some differences in the quality of blank CD's depending upon where they were manufactured.  I just looked this up to refresh my memory... check this link out (comments from 2002):

http://discuss.pcmag.com/forums/thread/147411005.aspx

I'm not sure what the suggestion is now on what's good and what's not... but I have TDK DVD-R's that I use to burn DVD's and large amounts of data generally without any problems (sometimes my older DVD player doesn't like them, sometimes it does).  I use Sonic to burn DVD's... I hear Nero is good... and I didn't like Roxio when I had it on my older machine.  I also have Fujifilm CD-RW's that I use for files... and I've got some pictures saved on Kodak CD-R's.  I haven't had any issues with those, but I only use them in computers!  I see that my mother purchased a stack of Memorex DVD-R's for me... haven't opened and tried them yet.  It'll be sad if that's a stack of 25 frisbees.  sad

Good luck, let us know if you find a good brand that works for you!  Next time I go shopping, I think I'll try Steve's suggestion on the Phillips brand!  smile
