I found him by the river
in the early morn
his blood soaked clothes
from a gaping wound
i stripped his shirt
and dressed the wound
the best that i could
but to no avail
he passed that afternoon
said he`d marched all night
and carried a flag held high
served his country with pride
but from friendly fire he die
sadly another life lost
in the pursuit of what
this started as a song but i`ve kept as a poem as i wouldn`t know how to tell this story with music.

looks like retirements making your writing even more prolific.

I was at a "barn" jam Monday night. It's quite literally a barn that this fellow turned into a huge music room; complete with a bar, a stage, and all the sound equipment you could ask for. He does this every 6-8 weeks. He's in the process of installing a kitchen and bathroom also. The only thing missing is the animals. Lol! The lighting is very subdued so the quality is a bit lacking but it a great setting for an open jam.
So here is my rendition of Eric Clapton's "Promises." On stage with me is Paul on the harmonica, Jerry on the box drum, and our host Frank on the bass.

Phill Williams wrote:Lord Byron, sorry Brian!!!! Just like Jan I also smiled all the way through and lol on several parts, fluffy clouds and non-fluffy clouds? It put me in mind of deck of cards, not rap but telling a story, although you missed out snow...come on you can't live in a country renowned for mountains and not mention snow!
Sir Phill
i`ll let you in on a secret,im not really an expert on weather.
You should hear the character assassinations i do to people on their birthdays in this style.
thank goodness friends have taken it so well, although i have received a few kicks up the arse.
neophytte wrote:I've been writing a song which has both days and numbers in it; I'll get a wriggle on and finish it, but tentative title is "Today is the day"; about how we need to change our habits or the world will (essentially) end. I'll finish it off and post it up.
Cheers
Richard
Whoops on the songwriting post i just asked when you were going to do a song,
neophytte wrote:Weill, that was pretty funny ... my MIL always reminds me, English talk about weather, Asians talk about food (Segway into sequel!!)

thanks for having a listen Neo,when are we going to hear another song from you for song of mth?
Jandle wrote:I loved that Brian, lol, it made me laugh and I had a smile on my face the whole time listening to that. It kinda reminded me of Flight of the concords how they would talk between their songs and strum while talking and they would talk on any subject and make it funny. You did that, I think you have found a new talent
thanks for having a listen,i`ve been doing these things for ages,i often do them
about people for their birthdays.
Not much activity on Chordie at the mo,so thought i`d post this gem(or germ)
This is not a song just me doing an off the cuff ramble with a couple of chords thrown in.
love doing these .its a real foot tapper,so get ready to dance.!! it`s kinda rockabilly meets disco meets punk with a bit of metal
thrown in for good measure, with a reggae latin feel.

i think choosing a word like last mth works better eg man/woman/ghost
Thanks easybeat, noted and agree, random words were fun, so yep will definately do again. In the meantime, any song suggests or a song you have written with the above in it, eg a day of the week or a number?
day of the week or number, great ill start writing for new mth.
its good to have a reason to write a new song, song of mth gives me the incentive.
Jan
i think choosing a word like last mth works better eg man/woman/ghost
that was great Zurf, always enjoy your preamble
because of my poor singing Jan couldn`t hear some words i think it goes something like this.
old mans eye
as the years march on
i march a little slower
if the wheels turn round
will the rust fall away
they say time waits for no man
and it hasn`t waited for me
seems the blink of an eye
everything has changed
well there`s no going back
to what has gone before
a realisation the best years have gone
a tear escapes from the old mans eye

Thanks Brian, its good to see so many joining in isn't it, I hope more will join in too and have a bit of fun with us all cause that's what its about, fun Also I love that some people do covers, some do originals, its great to see and hear
easybeat, that guitar of yours does all the talking I am sure of it! You should be in a band and playing your heart out! Like I always say, your guitar skills are awesome, I wish I could do what you seem to do so easily!. I would love to see the lyrics to this song as I couldn't quite hear all of the lyrics when you sang as your vocals at times were a bit quiet and I couldn't quite hear all the lyrics. Also you earn brownie points for being the first up! Love it, awesome easybeat, if you find the time, please post the lyrics, what I could hear was great
jan
if i can remember the lyric ill post, much was made up as i went along.
you make me laugh about my``guitar skills``i haven`t a bloody clue what im doing
just turn on the recorder and see what happens.

so pleased so many have supported song of mth.
Zurf
im sure Mr Stevens would be only to happy with this version.
well done,guitars sounds really good.
good rave peatle, people need to be talking about these things.
its not fashionable to think this way,but price hikes to tend to
focus the mind .Nuclear energy was off the table for many countries
a real no no,but now some are committing to it for their future energy.
a 360 ` change that has happened very quickly.
I`m saving up for petrol
gonna put it in my car
you know without petrol
i`m not going very far
but the price keeps going up
every time i visit the pump
i guess i could get a taxi
but their problems are the same
this all happened recently
is Russia really to blame
maybe we should look closer to home
where energy decisions are made
perhaps it`s our very own Gov`t
that just hasn`t made the grade.
Neo
thanks for taking the time to comment.yeah monotone is what i do best.
A few years ago i had never sung,Jan encouraged me,its still not real singing, but i like to think
it is real and sincere.I like writing but dont like trying to sing and play.
Jan that was us starting out,a very simple song, you got a few lyrics wrong but i still love this one today.
Its got something just a bit special me thinks.
I guess we weren`t trying too hard, maybe thats the answer.
